Mid-July Reporting...

I had to look again at my UFO List to see if I had worked on any of them this year.  I HAVEN'T really even given them much thought. It's really hard to see them once they are in a tote. I have too many of  my NewFO's that have taken my attention away to work on this year.  I've been extra good at those. Starting 3 New Projects at the Block Party, Whoa!  I've been trying NOT to put them away and out of sight to become real UFO's.

Bonnie Hunter's Bow Tie Project from 2011 is still un-finished and I have been searching for that darn Fabric that I mis-cut.  I have even thought about using the strips I've sewn back together and re-cutting the sashing- just to get the flimsy done. Here is my pile of Blocks.  I keep making more Bow Ties when I'm cutting out other things.  There are 22 more Bowties to make into the 9's to add to the pile of  39 blocks.  I need to make at least 5 more Bow ties to end up with an even number of 42 of the 9's. They are addictive, those Leader/Enders.  But I don't have this project on my July List so back into the tote it will go...

 
The only other UFO that has been touched, that is on my list (see the TAB at the top of the blog) at all this year is my Civil War Sampler. It is still hanging on the wall here in my Quilt Zone.  I need to make enough blocks to surround the center (at least a dozen more).

 The time is coming close to the arrival of the 2 new Grand-daughters and I have made arrangements for the quilting of the 2 Pink Baby quilts. I hope I can get them back and finish the bindings before they arrive. That will take care of  #1 of the July Goals on my List.

I have all of the Blocks made for my #3 Goal- The Stichin' Heaven re-make quilt shown HERE.  I just need to sew them together and add the borders.  That is still do-able this month, unless I take off and go to Wyoming...

Design Wall Monday- Christmas Eve

I should have a Christmas quilt up for today but I have to put this one back on the wall because...I can.

It's my center of the Civil War Sampler, the BoW from 2011 by Barbara Brackman.  She posted about the book being done HERE. The book is available now, you can see it HERE. 
A Blogging friend Denise at Count it all Joy posted that she had received a copy around the 12th of December straight from Barbara Brackman because she has a block pictured inside. We submitted our Blocks as we made them to a joint Flicker account.   Later that day she e-mailed me and said I had a block in there too on pg 64!

I've been watching for a copy of the book to come to my house...Nothing has come yet, so when I saw Barbara's posting on Saturday (linked above), I commented that I'd heard I had a block in there and must have missed the post about sending her my address.  Anyway, first thing Sunday morning I got a reply from her that my name was missed in accounting for the blocks pictured in the book to send the book to me and she would send me a book ASAP.   I'm pretty excited to be published again, it's a good feeling. It's the block called Empty Spools.  This was a different way to make spool blocks. I have to still add the border blocks all around my center and I need a few more blocks to be finished too.  This one will go on my end of the month goals for December over at Patchworktimes.

I didn't get my Part 5 cut out or sewn with all the prep for the family to gather on Sunday. I'll have to link-up to Bonnie Hunter's Blog later this week. We had a great time! I just have to wait until DD# 1 sends me some of the pictures she took so I can BLOG about it.  I didn't even try to take pictures.

I got my #52 Christmas Star block fixed and it is ready to go into the quilt.

 I thought I'd try to see how this UFO would look 'on point'.  There are enough 8" Blocks to make it about twin sized if I add a sashing and cornerstone to the center and setting triangles to the sides.  I have fabrics chosen for the setting triangles and borders.   I still have another idea and will try it out when I go to Lynn's.

This is UFO #3, the number chosen for July with Judy L's UFO Challenge.  It was the Block of the Week from Barbara Brackman last year to celebrate 150 years since the Civil War. My record isn't as good as I'd like to have at getting my UFO's Completed during the month they are assigned.  I have several more blocks to make and am going to try and fit some in to my sewing time in the next 3 weeks.  I could possibly make most of the pieced block in that time.  I will show whatever progress on this at the end of July.  I don't think I'll start on the Barbara Brackman BOW for Women's Sufferage.  I'm on the "NO NEW PROJECTS" wagon train right now. My Farmer's wife Quilt and other "Tester" quilts have to take priority. I have one of the TESTER quilts done and will send it off to Texas this week.  Thanks to Lynn W at Thread and Bolts for doing the quilting for me. I get to go out and help her take it off the longarm tomorrow. Sorry no pictures allowed of it just yet...

My Civil War Blocks are on the Wall. I know I'm far behind in the Block of the Week.  I made 7 last week and doubled what I had. The 'H' Block was #42. I like making these Blocks, they are 8" finished.  Much bigger than the 6" ones I made for the SBS and for the Basket Swap.  I'll be making a few more Baskets this week- I made them the 'wrong' color.  Opps!  I was too anxious to use my favorite color -purple. I didn't read correctly the guidelines.  It should have been called the Brown Basket Swap...that might have reminded me to use Brown!   Anyway, if I re-send the right color, I will have a bunch of Purple ones to play with.
I'm excited to finally Start the Voting on the Final Challenge for McCall's Quilt Design Star TONIGHT ---10 pm MDT. So- check back here to click and VOTE if you like my Quilt, made from the inspiration of a well-recognized lyric.  I have a guessing game for you too, Maybe a Prize to win??

Honest Abe

I woke this morning thinking about "Honest Abe Lincoln". When I saw the Block of the week was Log Cabin I wasn't too happy. Since I have to be 'honest'...I don't like to do Log Cabin Blocks! I mess them up every time I try. I did the ones for the guild "Raffle" Quilt on foundation paper and messed them up too. They were used as background and I can't pick out the ones I made. I guess I got them fixed enough and they don't stick out too bad in there. A picture that I took at Guild is posted on my Blog HERE. Anyway, today I will make a Log Cabin block in the 8" size for my Civil War Block of the week.
