2012 Blogger's Quilt Festival

Amy's Creative Side

Amy over at Amy's Creative Side is hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival during Quilt market again this Spring. The Button is above and on my sidebar... I've participated for many years and have been trying to make the choice of which quilt to showcase.  There are changes for this year that we get to nominate each other for winning in several categories.  To view those categories click HERE.  Plus there are Random Drawings for goodies from the companies that donate prizes to the Festival.  There are over 300 Blogs linked up as I find myself typing late on the first evening of the Festival.
Linky time goes May 18th until May 21st.
You can nominate someone ( ME!!! Hint, Hint)  May  22nd-25th.
Voting is May 26th-30th.
Winners announced on June 1st.
Sooooooo...
 which quilt am I showing????
One of my 2011 McCall's Quilt Design Star Challenge Quilts of course...

Here are the 10 fat quarters that were sent for us to use in our design.
Make that 8 of the 10, I chose not to use the Black FQ.
Pictured with my fabric choice for sashing and borders.
I was inspired by a Tile floor in the bathroom of a Quilt shop I visited during a road trip with my Sister.
I used my EQ6 to draw the original design and make the pattern.
I'm currently working on re-making this quilt using the GO-Baby by Accuquilt that
I received as my final sponsor gift.  It will be "GO- FRIENDLY"
Especially since my Daughter-by love; Tina has claimed it.
I told her when she has a baby girl, we'll see.
I love using the English Paper-piecing method for hand applique. The center appliques looked like Asterisks to me so I called the quilt Be-Ribboned Asterisk. I sent it to be quilted by Natalia Bonner at Piece n Quilt. I requested she use the swirls in the Off white background fabric of the pinwheels somehow and feathers on the scalloped border.  I love the swirls, feathers, pebbles and all the detail she did for me. I showed this quilt in Pocatello, Idaho last week-end and shortened the name to-
"Be-Ribboned".

Thanks for stopping by my Blog to see my entry in the 2012 Bloggers Quilt Festival.

Design Wall Monday, October 31, 2011

The Design Wall is empty for now.  Waiting to have a new Quilt put up on it this week.
These Gray and Navy Blues will hopefully be a quilt top by week's end.  I'm thinking a D9P made from these would be just the right thing to make for one of the Elders who lived with us.  He got married in early October and I would like to deliver the quilt when we go to Utah in November.  These are all from my Stash so the Report next week should be improved..  The bottom bolt is one I brought home from Trends in September.  When I asked what colors and he said Navy Blue and Gray, I knew it was getting used.  There are several easy to put together quilts that I could make another one is the Warm Wishes.  I've not made one of those before. I'm also quilting a UFO, (my Mariner's compass Round Robin), that I want done in time to show Jennifer Chiaverini when I go to get my books signed. Drawing is also tonight for my Giveaway, see my Tuesday Posting for the Winner. Wish me luck in getting them done between runs to 'Treat the Tricksters' tonight.

Only one week and a day left in the Final Voting on McCall's Quilt Design Star.  If you click the doggy quilt icon/button on the right sidebar you can VOTE and leave comments there. I'd appreciate any and all Votes to finish out this week. Thank You!

More Swap Blocks and Surprises in the mail

These are the Prairie Flower Blocks from the Friendship Blocks swappers again. They came in the Mail this week.  I am not a member of that Yahoo anymore because I  got an e-mail from one of the Moderators. There must have been some complaints about the "wrong" color Baskets in the last Swap. Even though I had offered to re-make them.  I'm sad, but it will sure save me some stress next year and all the $$$ sending packages.  I'm putting them away for a while with the Baskets.  My other UFO's are calling to me!

And the UPS man drop this box off today, rang the doorbell and ran away fast so I couldn't take his picture again. LOOK what was in IT!  EQ7!!!! I have Version 5 and 6 and needed the upgrade. WOW- Thanks to the Sponsor of the McCall's Quilt Design Star Contest.  Now I'm upgraded what shall I make...???

Oh yea, I have UFO's to Finish and Christmas Gifts to make...Playtime will have to wait.  :((

Thanks for all the Votes and kind Comments on the McCall's website.  It helps make it all worth it!
Just 10 more days to VOTE!  Click HERE or up on the Doggy quilt Icon.

The Guessing Game continues...

My #2 Son-Joe entertained me last night by trying to guess the lyric I'm using for my 3rd and final Challenge for the McCall's Quilt Design Star Contest.  He suggested something by ACDC... Then this morning he posted the link to a Wiggles song- "Fruit Salad- Yummy Yummy" on his Facebook page.  While I think that he is funny - I would NOT choose an ACDC or a Wiggles song.  I should be happy he is showing interest in my Quilting, HUH?  So nice to hear from you JOSEPH! The quilt, when it is revealed, should tell you what lyric of a well-recognized song I used.  I showed what I have made so far to Paul, my DH, and he couldn't guess. I may have been a bit too cryptic in my interpretation of the title.  It might have helped if he knew the name of the quilt block I used.  I'm hoping that the judges know this block and the tune and can figure it out.

Here are a few other songs that have been tossed around in my head then- ruled out:
"You Are my Sunshine"- My first choice but I just couldn't make a YELLOW quilt this time.
"Don't Fence me In"- I saw all kinds of quilts with this one, but NO...
"Please, Please Don't Eat the Daisies"- see reason #1 above - same thing.
"My Grandfather's Clock" - This one had possibilities too, but I just couldn't get them to work in EQ
"Red Roses for a Blue Lady" -  Too easy...
"Swinging on a Star" - Another song from my childhood, long ago. Sang it with a friend for a Talent show.  EQ possibly?

So now you know a few of the songs that weren't selected... do you remember any of them?  Keep watching the BLOG to see if you know the name of the song when you see the quilt. The decision was made when I saw the fabric at Quiltmania. Actually there are at least 3 songs I could think of, that would fit the fabric. NO TELLING- NaDell or Lynn W.  They have seen the fabric.  I can't show that on here YET, either!!!  I will say it is NOT Pastel!  I'm hoping for a Winner this round!

Design Wall Monday- August 29, 2011

I have three things on the Design Wall after last week's activities with Elizabeth.  The green in the middle is her 2nd design that will need a border and then get quilted for another dolly quilt.  The nine patches were from the leftover 3"squares in the tote she got to play in.  The Word Play Quilt is on the Bottom waiting to be quilted.  If I want to put it in the Walla Walla Valley Quilt show it will have to get registered by the 1st and finished and turned in by the 10th of September.  I have cut out the "commission quilt" and will sew it up this week so it is ready for quilting before Lynn and I go on our road trip to "TRENDS".  This is the week we have to mail our quilts to Portland to show at the Trends show.

My Challenge #1 Quilt is done except for the tacking down of the binding, label and hanging sleeve.  I re-stitched the bottom row after the 4 days of un-sewing! YEA! Quilted with "Cristopher's Feather Panto 2".  I had to add a 6.5" strip to finish the quilting.
