Design Wall Monday- January 13, 2014

On My Design Wall once again is my Bonnie Hunter Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt

Friday night I finished the last of the Chevron blocks.  See the one on the Right?  

I can get all mixed up as good as any quilter.  

My Seam ripper and I have been way too good of friends with this quilt already.

 I had this stack of Blocks when I left to go to the Movies with my DH!  

We drove an hour away and saw "The Book Thief".

The best part was seeing friends from when we lived closer to Tri-Cities.

The 1st thing I did after waking up Saturday Morning was to get all the Blocks laid out, making sure all the center 4-patches were oriented  with the red going toward the upper right corner. 

After a very Long day of FOOTBALL, Figure Skating and Stitching my Celtic Solstice is almost a TOP!

This quilt reminds me of the quilt I finished last year. It used the Tri-Recs, too.

      All I have left to do is add a final border before the Monday Link up after Groundhog Day.

I have yardage of all of these- 2 different Green Prints or Blue Moda Marble Swirl or Plain Green

IF I'm really Lucky and get what I WANT and NEED for my Birthday this year.

 It could possibly even be quilted!  

Still looking and dreaming.

I'm turning the BIG 57 (I was born in 1957) Does that make it a "GOLDEN" Birthday?

I have to go renew my Driver's Licence at the DMV.

Design Wall Monday & Mystery Monday Link up - January 6, 2014

I can't believe how much sewing I've done already this year.  

Not all of it has been on my Celtic Solstice...

 This is what it looked like when I played with Blocks on Saturday evening.  Just playing to see if this how I want my blocks to be arranged.  And testing the Border blocks too.  

There will be a small inner Border before the Red/BlueTri-Recs.

I very carefully picked up the blocks in the 9-patch and placed them on my 12x12 ruler to take them

 to the machine. DH was happy to take a picture of me doing my QUILT YOGA!

YES, my Christmas Tree is still up, I have been known to keep it up until February or longer. 

My Birthday is Next week and I have ladies coming on Monday for DUP Luncheon.

 I NEED to take it down before then. But It can wait while I sew a bit more...

Below are the 18 blocks I sewed, all webbed together.

I like the chains to go around both sides of the circles.

That means I have to un-sew two of the 4-patches and turn them in my first 3 Star Blocks

 that I made after the reveal. That will make 24 of the 49 needed for the Small quilt

Many other ladies have made bigger changes on their layouts of these block parts.

I'm trying to stay more true to the DESIGN Bonnie made.

I've seen a post where they counted the pieces and there are over 2400 in the Small size.
I think I don't want to know how many pieces there are that I have cut and sewn.

On New Year's day while I was off visiting extended family my online Yahoo group; 

WASIQ had a Virtual Sew-in  and made a familiar block.

They said instead of Resolutions to make RESEWLUTIONS!

I have so many scraps that were already but into the size strips they were using,

 so I had to play along on January 2nd.

3.5" Scrappy block units. PLUS, a few left over for another project, maybe my Double Delight?

I definitely have Quilter's ADD.
Confession time, it only took 4 days to start a new BOM to add to the long list of Monthly challenges.

[made with some pretty White on White, Shadow Play, Moda Marble Swirl and a fat quarter I found]
DH asked Why it wasn't Purple, my Favorite color. I showed him that Fat Quarter has a little purple flower.

I have used a LOT of Bobbins since I started the Celtic Solstice.  I know I've used at least 8 because I had to stop and fill them before I could sew on Saturday.

Design Wall Monday/ Celtic Solstice Link-up - December 30, 2013

Part 1-5 are almost finished. I need to cut and make 40 more Chevron units

It's the day to Link-up with Bonnie Hunter HERE.

Friday morning the post for Part 5 was posted.  I couldn't find my Easy Angle Ruler right away so 

I used my Nifty Notions HST ruler.  Adding the Tape helped keep the pieces the right size.

 Scrappy Blues for the Split Triangle Squares

 All of the parts to make Part 5 cut out.

Nice to have more Blue and Neutral to use this week.

The Red and Pink HST's are from Part 3

 It helped me to lay them out and sew the parts and add the wings then the final Triangle.

Sewing with the Blue ont he bottom helped avoid stretching the BIAS.  It made stitching over where the stitching crossed easier too. 

 The Red, pink and Neutral are from yardage.

 All 100 Split Triangle squares ready for the next clue.

 Samples of possible blocks.  Some of these parts could be in the Border too.

 It's fun to play with the parts.  Hoping we get to assemble BLOCKS next week.

 A few Block setting possiblities on my Design Floor...

 The Facebook ladies have been busy playing with EQ7

the Chevrons look like "Swastikas" to me.  

 Part 4 almost done.

I didn't get the twosies sewn into foursies before Midnight Saturday and I don't sew on Sunday 

so this is all I got finished of Part four. 

I have the rest of them cut and ready to sew the strips. I need 120 total for the Small CS quilt.

It was fun to sew Red and Greens this week.

Winter Solstice is Tomorrow-

It's almost the Last clue of the Year for the Celtic Solstice HERE.
Bonnie made a special point this week about that 1/4" seam. I picked up her Seam guide at the Quiltmaker Block Party last March. Now I get to use it.

What better day to spend SEWING on my Celtic Solstice Mystery from Quiltville!? 

Forecast is SNOW!

25 DONE and only 95 left to SEW...before Link-up on Monday. 

I have selected several Christmas Greens for my Celtic Solstice and for the Orange- I'm using Red from yardage.  I even have some Christmas Frogs, Patchwork Stockings and Reindeer.  FUN stuff! That means I'm making a LOT of Christmas-y 4-patches and having fun spinning those seams on the back.

 Gotta add in some of the Moda Marble Swirl!

I've been watching under my Christmas Tree all week...each day I see another Box under there.  SO, I had to ask my SANTA, "What's UP??"  Is he doing the 12 days of Christmas?  Who knows, Maybe I'll have 12 Boxes under there by Christmas.  Funny guy, I said, " I bet there is 12 Fat quarters in those boxes."
He asked if I have been shaking them or Peeking, too.  I think He doesn't know I like surprises now that I'm old.  When I was a Young girl at home I peeked one year when my Mom let me wrap my own gifts.
That wasn't a FUN Christmas for me.

  I KNOW nothing like a SEWING machine or Longarm will fit inside them.

I went out thrifting for those dishes to turn up-side-down under the Nativities at our Ward Christmas party. I found a few smallish ones.  They will work for the small Nativities. I get to take a bunch to our WARD party tonight.  Gotta go find a few more to use.  The tea lights work nice and glow under the doily.

 AND....Look what was in the back of the Store...

A Singer 66 RED EYE!  

I put my name on it and they will hold it for 24 hours. I asked my SANTA if I could bring it home and he asked why I didn't bring it home already? I have to go and check for the Bobbin cover/slide plate, make sure that it fits. I forgot to see if the Foot control is there. I think I'll ask to plug it in also.

 I was so excited to find one I forgot my brains. 

It uses a drop-in Bobbin and I have ordered those from Cindy Peters of Stitches in Time. 

It is in a cabinet and Bonnie says I could even de-Motorize it and convert it to a TREADLE if I want to.  The price is about right, but the decals are really worn on the bed of the machine.  

No PIN RASH.  That's good, right?
