2014 Mystery Link-up & Design Wall Monday- December 29, 2104

The old commercial used to say, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing."
Well, I can't believe I am all caught up with the Mystery!

Last week I didn't have much time to catch up.
This week- I had the whole day to sew while DH worked.

Clue 4- A & B blocks DONE
I did a few "Rip-it's" with these.

Clue 5 A & B Blocks DONE!
It was fun to use those "Coyote" School colors from Columbia Burbank again.

All the blocks on my floor stacked in sets of 10, 5 & 4 accordingly.
 Clue 1 - 100, Clue 2 - 100  Clue 3 -120
Clue 4 - 40 A+ 40 B = 80  Clue 5 - 25 A+ 4 B = 29
429 block parts
Total pieces so far = 2,756

Plus there are 800 bonus triangles from clue 2

I had to buy a new tote to hold all the parts for the
"Grand Illusion Mystery"
Stacked and waiting for more clues or block instructions next Friday.
Bonnie really has me stumped this year!

2014 Design Wall Monday- Grand Illusion Mystery Link up

It's Christmas week!
I only got a few Clue 4 blocks completed.
Family time on Saturday cut into my stitching time.
I need 40 of each of these for clue 4
Here are the 1st 2- one of each-
I got a few more Purples Greens and Pinks to add into the blocks for a more scrappy look.

I cut too many of the Black Neutral units for clue 2 so I changed the Pink to Purple and thought I'd make just one block like this to remember it.
So many of the guesses from Facebook are great blocks.
I still think these will be in the border somehow.

Now I really have NO IDEA where this mystery is going.  Bonnie has me stumped!
Linking up HERE with Bonnie.

I posted my Block from Jenny Doan's Tutorial last Friday.
I went to see if the LQS had some of the Downton Fabric.
They only had the new line with Rose and the Lord & Lady Collection.
I would like make a whole quilt with just the "Mary" Fabrics.
They are from the first line so not as readily available.

DECEMBER GOALS
1- Cascadia QAL-Hope it gets to the Flimsy stage- not done- Lori's having a Link-up HERE this week.

2- Siggy Squares- Famous fellow quilters...Keep playing with layout. - Still waiting for the final blocks.

3- Guild Lotto Block - the letter V - Done

4- Grand Illusion Mystery-  Keep up with the clues and link-up on Mondays - Done
5- Finish Christmas gifts before Christmas Eve -Done

Mystery Monday Link-up and DWM- December 15, 2014

I am doing pretty good at getting my Mystery stitching in.   Thanks to BONNIE for giving us an easier clue this week. She said to chceck the measurement of the strip set. so I did!

The June Taylor strip cutting ruler worked for cutting the strips quick
after sewing them together.

Most of the fabrics for half of the strips came from my Scrap Users system Strips and Block totes

I need a few more greens for variety

Here is part of each clue on my Design board.
How will we assemble these for "real" in the Quilt???

I got half of the Hst's from Clue 1 trimmed and more of Clue 2

Have to "rippit" this one...opps!

Design Wall Monday/ 2014 Mystery Link-up - December 8,2014

It's Link-up time at my house.
I haven't gotten as much done on the Mystery with the busy-ness of the Holiday.
I'm loving my colors for these.
Black and "Barbie" pink.
I had to get more Neutrals for variety.
Here is my first Double diamond as I've heard it called.
I'm very familiar with the 'dreaded chevron'.
I made several already this year with the Celtic Solstice and Midnight Flight.
It's these blocks that give such movement to the patterns.
I am not afraid of them.
These are all going in the same direction so there isn't the confusing Uphill and Downhill.
I enjoy the bonus triangles and stitching these flip and sew style.
Bonnie's #3 method.
She has shown multiple techniques for us to use to achieve perfect block parts.
THANKS sew Much, BONNIE!!

Here are all my block parts so far.
I have lots more cutting and stitching to do before Friday.

It's my Busy week of the year with Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Quilt Guild Potluck, a Lacey Lacers Potluck and Nutcracker coming to keep me away from my stitching.
I have gifts and Ornaments to get finished up that aren't being seen on here yet.
Our Relief Society at Church gathered last Saturday for Brunch to start off the Christmas Season.
I requested a Picture with two friends to take a picture with me to send to our Friend; Wendy
who moved away to far-off Chicago!

I have heard the great news that I WON the NewFO Lapel Pin for November HERE
Thanks so much Barbara!

Christmas Decorating is on hold as well.
I bought a Live Wreath from my Grandson's in Kennewick.
I added some blue LED lights that are battery operated.

Design Wall Monday- November 24, 2014

I un-earthed the Siggy Squares I got at the Small Town Quilt Show in Midway, Utah last June and finally got the corners sewn on.

Since watching that YouTube from Missouri Star Quilts HERE
I've re-thought the layout ideas I've had.

I need  3 more to make this even 10 x 9 = 90 Siggies
I wonder who I can get to send me a Siggy???
Any of my Blog readers want to send me one?
It just needs to be a 4.5" square of White Kona written on the diagonal
with your Name, Location and the year.
It's helpful to know your favorite color for the corners.

Design Wall Monday- November 17, 2014

The month is already half over and I have made some progress on my November goals.
Thanks to a Hancock Fabrics 20% off total purchase and 50% off sale.

NOVEMBER GOALS
1- Quilt Cassie's Mariner's Compass RR quilt -On the quilting table
2- Work on more Loyal Union Sampler Blocks- YES
3- Sew A-Z Block of the Month Blocks, get to flimsy-  Not quite
4- Christmas gifts (no peeking)- fabric chosen and ideas ready to make

I made the Block of the Week that is due on November 21st.
G-2 Manger
# 54 of 121
I used my Marti Michell templates set B & D
There was a error in the book for measuring the dark Blue rectangles.
It said to cut 4 Rectangles 1.5" x 4 3/4".  I only needed 2 at that measurement.
EDITED: 2 of the Rectangles should be cut 1 3/4" x 4 3/4"
The EQ7 layout is getting full bit by bit.
I love the fabrics and playing with them in different blocks is so fun.

The Quiltmaker 100 Blocks- Blog Tour has started HERE.
I had to find all of my copies and take a picture.
I have extra copies of volumes 2,3,6, & 8

Design Wall Monday- November 3, 2014

I played with my Siggy Squares on my Design Wall this AM.
I think I like it.

I'm late in Posting because I had to run an errand with these nice Sisters today.

We went to Yakima.
Had to show them where the BEST Hamburger is...
Minors!!!
I could only eat Half and we shared an order of the Yummy Fries.

I got the borders sewn on FINALLY!
This flimsy is ready now for the quilting!
I put this one #1 on my Goals for this month.

My Decorations for the Trunk or Treak
The rain let up just long enough for us to enjoy a bit of fun with the kids in costumes!
Glow in the Dark stars on a black piece of knit fabric clipped to the Trunk.
My 2 Grandsons pose with us for a Picture.
One is a Camo/Bow hunter, the younger one is a  Firefighter
Paul got off work in time to come to hand out the candy.
He's a "Candy Eater" (aka: NO costume)
I wore a bandand with my engineer hat and Sheriff's badge.
If I'd worn a quilt for a cape I could have been the Quilt Police, LOL
I'm holding a Skeleton head that lights up with changing colors.
It was a gift from Grandson in Kennewick.  Thanks To him!

I had put these Word Play letters re-arranged on a design board to take to the Trunk or Treak.
Opps... I left the board on the back porch.

SHAMELESS PLUG TIME...
Voting has begun for the Blogger's Quilt Festival.
My "Midnight Flight" is HERE

Design Wall Monday- October 27,2014

I am late posting this AM, I just needed to SLEEP!
On my Design Wall today I want to show the quilt my DD #1 sent me.
I knew it would happen...
quilting
She sent me this pic from PINTEREST on October 9th.
Looks EASY enough.  She wants me to "help her make it"
If you know the pattern let me know.  I think I could figure it out but want to give the designer credit...
I really don't like Pinterest for that reason...
LOL I think I have that Hydrangea fabric, hahaha

I have nothing on the Quilting table so today is the day to remedy that!
We all know which quilt needs to go on there, I don't have to even show the picture...

"Betsy" did a good job helping me get my Midnight Flight finished for the Jo & Nell Challenge.
I have entered it in the Blogger's Quilt Festival HERE .
I'm So glad I finished it!
When I realized I don't have a Quilt with Warm & Natural to use this Winter.
I put it in this one.   I really like my Tuscany but am running out of it.
Guess what's going on my Bed?
The direct link to read all about it is HERE

It's a Rainy Looking Day and a MONDAY here!
I'm heading over HERE to see what everyone else is showing on their WALLS.
I'll link up Wednesday with Jo & Nell!

Design Wall Monday- October 20, 2014

The month is half over and I have to see what still needs to be worked on from my October Goals

 October Goals
1-Catch up on A- Z for You and Me Blocks- need to make K-Z and put Center together. I made a few at Retreat
2- Work on Roma's DWR at Retreat Yep
3- Christmas Gifts for the Grandchildren
4- NewFO- Lamb Quilt (QM June 2014 issue)
5 - Quilt the Mariner's Compass RR for Cassie
6- Quilt the Red & White Challenge DONE

That leaves some Secret projects that I can't show, my NewFO and Cassie's Mariner's Compass.
I am anxious to make this even though it won't be for a grandchild.
I put it on my NewFO list before meeting Deonn at the Big Town Quilt Show in Midway, Utah.
I have the Accuquilt Baby Go and Half Hexigon Go die and can cut it out quickly if I can just stay home.

So for now the Mariner's Compass is back on the wall again.
I don't really have any excuses for not getting the borders on at Retreat
I left my Pinwheel blocks and tape measure at home though.

I can get it quilted this week if decide what to quilt on it soon.  I have all the stuff I need to do it!
Any suggestions for quilting?

Design Wall Monday- October 13, 2014 Retreat Report

It was a VERY productive Retreat for me.
I made progress on several projects that I took to sew on.
Did you Miss me posting on Friday???

I saved my Pictures for today's DWM posting.
I left Thursday morning after packing the car to join the early birds at the Retreat in Cove, Or.
I found the Retreat place after a bit if a detour...I googled the wrong place. LOL

Thursday - I worked on my DWR for my Sister

I'm getting closer to the total number I need to make her quilt like I want to.

and my Globetrotting BOM
I needed to make 4 of the Checkerboard blocks for the corners.
I wanted mine to be made with scrappy Blues.
I got the center all sashed and put it on the Wall for a Pic.

Eddie W and Terri H were making HST's for their Ocean Wave Blocks.
They figured a way to avoid the extra cutting of Triangles.
While I was cutting my blue fabrics I made this sample block.

Friday- I awoke to find that Bonnie Hunter had surprised us with the Fabric Requirements &
Color choices for the next Mystery HERE.
It's called   "Grand Illusion"
Yellow, Turquoise, Green, Pink, Black, & Neutrals are her colors.
I want/need to add in a Purple some where....
I realized at the Retreat that for a person who LOVES Purple -
I had brought NONE to speak of to the Retreat.
I need to go shopping in my Stash for the colors.
I have over a Month to find the fabrics I want to use.
I found a Yellow (way out of my Comfort Zone) to use as the Constant color
at Highland Quilts in Athena on my way to Cove.
I'll be adding the Button to my Sidebar later.

I worked some more on the DWR and had to use my "frogging" tool quite a bit.
The arcs were mostly Blues and looked a bit dark and dull.
I Un-sewed and switched some of the parts to brighten them up.
I added some lights and a different Blue.
I was tired and didn't want to chance the Curves so...
in the afternoon
I made some of the A-Z Blocks that I needed to catch up on..

L-R: T- for Tree, O- Ohio Star,  R- Road to California,  L- Log Cabin
P- Picture Frame (I would call it a Puss in the Corner block)

I had to use the scraps I had with me so the colors aren't all the same as directed on the pattern.
I really am not happy with my Log Cabin (as usual) but for this quilt it is done
It's a bit wonky.  I'm NOT re-making it!
I noticed that I had one side of it turned the wrong way to the inside.
When I looked at the pictures after I got home.  OPPS!
I used the "frogging tool" again and it will get sewn right this time.

I still have to add the Black Fused letters on these blocks

Seems I worked mostly with BLUE fabrics this week-end.
I found my Loyal Union Sampler book in my tote that I took with me to Retreat.
That meant I could play with these Blue Blocks too.
Saturday - I made 3 to catch up.a little.
                                                   48 Pieces                                  28 Pieces

29 pieces
These blocks with tiny pieces take time to cut out and piece together.
I am so glad I learned to use PINS! Thanks to LYNN!!!

Here's the Group Picture I finally got when we went to Brunch on Saturday.
We had to wait until everyone arrived.

I left to come home early Saturday afternoon for the BEST Meeting in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Adult Session before Stake Conference.
We were "Spiritually" well fed Saturday night and Sunday.
