Civil War Blocks and some Namedropping...

 I went to Lynn's on Monday cut out these Blocks. I knew my sewing time would be limited with the plans for the week.  Looking at them on the computer, I see an OPPS on the top right block.  Time to un-sew and fix that before I add them to the Flicker site.

I'll have to show the setting I want to use for these CW blocks before the end of July.  I have 22 of the 56 made now. Maybe on Design Wall Monday???

Our Daughter #2 came to say good bye on Thursday Night.  Her oldest was too tired to sit up for a picture. It was good to have her home for almost a week.

                  

 Here is my block for Lori of HUMBLE QUILTS Jubilee/Birthday Quilt.  It was due in April but I finally got it mailed out this week.  I sent here a Bow Tie Block also. Even if my block has to go on the back, I wanted to send her one.

And for the Name-Dropping time--  STASH, a LQS (Local Quilt Store), invited a 'famous' Fabric and Quilt Designer to come to Walla Walla. Last night was a meet and greet/ book signing and tonight is a Lecture. I had one of the Stash Ladies take my picture with Tula Pink.  She's very friendly and Tall. I was happy to add another Autographed book to my Quilter's Library. Lynn calls me a "Name Dropper".  I need to take a Siggy Square for her to sign tonight, I forgot it yesterday. Her book has 20 projects in it and I think I will have to try a few of them... She is doing a workshop all day at the Marcus Whitman, but I didn't get signed up for it.  I dared not start another quilt!  

 I did buy a Fat Quarter of her "Parisville" fabric.  I was going to use it in my Cats and Mice Block for my FW and SBS. See the tiny lavendar mice??  I left it home when I cut those blocks out.  I think I could make a 2nd Cats and Mice Block for the SBS, HUH?  I'm not usually a fan of the "modern" prints- this one had some of my colors in it so it had to come home with me.

Civil War Saturday 2012

I have been behind on this Civil War 150 Anniversary BOW (Block of the Week) from last year.  Now that I finally felt Human today I had to play with my Civil War fabrics.  Here are 2 more Blocks all done.  Bringing my total to 20 Finished Civil War Blocks. Only 34 more to make. These are 8" finished Blocks.

I'm inspired by all my Blogging buddies who are making the 12 Days of Christmas with Temecula Quilt Company.  It was a Mystery that has just been revealed.  I am a definite LAMB, I follow the crowd in this respect.  I  have the 12 blocks made so I just need to sash it and put borders on, then quilt it so I can hang it for my Birthday.  Maybe I'll even finish the top in time for Quilt Guild. Note that the blocks have 1-12 pieces in them.  So fun! I never thought I'd make 3.5" blocks, but my Bow-ties are that size also.  Monday's Design Wall will show how many I have made. I think Bonnie Hunter will have the link up for us, you can see just how many other Quilters are in her Bow tie Challenge.
I look forward to getting back into the swing of my Quilting.  I'm about going nuts being stuck at home and feeling so bad I don't even want to sew/Quilt.  I'll be starting the Farmer's Wife Quilt with a Small Quilt Group out at Thread and Bolts Quilt Shop later this month. Tuesday or Wednesday time 10-12Noon. I haven't really decided which one I want to go to, maybe I'll do both and get twice as much done!

Design Wall Monday, November 28, 2011

I have nothing much to show on the Design Wall so I put my Civil War Blocks up to see how they look today.  I have 17 of the 48 Blocks finished.  There are some Setting Ideas being shown over at the Civil War Blog.  The time to put them together is not in my plan at this time but it is good to see other ideas so I can make an educated decision when I'm ready to set them together.  The time to finish these will have to wait until after the first of 2012.  This set of blocks will go into a tote for the new UFO list. Time is getting short to complete my Christmas gifts.  Time to sew will be squeezed in between Dr appts again this week.

These are the two blocks I will mail for the Fallen Soldier project. The deadline to send them was extended to the end of November, so today is the day to mail them to get to Florida  Tennessee on time. 

More things to get ready to mail this week are my Secret Stocking and the gifts for the Far away family and Grandchildren.  Jeff will deliver some for me so this is the week to get them finished.

De-Stressing Saturday

After feeling the pain of a BAD headache all week, I needed to DE-Stress on Saturday. Quilting and sewing does that for me!  I quilted a bit on my Mariner's Compass Round Robin Quilt last night when the headache seemed to be under control. I even got dressed and went out for a couple errands. I wanted to catch up on some Civil War Blocks  and do the Blogger's BOM before the 25th.  The New Blogger's BOM Quilt Along Block comes on the 25th of each month.  This is month 3 coming up and I'm trying not to get behind on this one like I have the Civil War Block of the Week. Today I used the Blogger's BOM Block from October to make a Civil War fabric block and one that was bright fabrics.  I'll need a few extras to go with the 52 weeks of BOW's.
I took pictures as I went it was kinda fun.

 This is how I laid it all out with the HST squares marked on the lighter fabric.  I used the Sew and Flip method to assemble the different HST's and Flying geese in this block. It  will give me some Bonus HST'S, but I can always use them in a smaller Hovering Hawks or Bear Paw type block, right?

 I thought it would be interesting to see if the Add-A Quarter ruler would work to cut off the bonus triangles.  Had to get the DH to take a picture with my hand's ready to cut. This how the chin sewing looked before the Cutting and pressing. Using this method there are no dog ears to trim off of the HST's.

 With the Add-a-Quarter ruler placed - just so...  I had to sew the corner squares to each HST and then the block parts were ready for assembly. making four units the same and turning them like the picture shows.

I had the "UNION'' fabric in Brown so I had to reverse the colors in the HST's and FG units in this Block. I like using the fussy-cut Eagle in the center.  I'm only a couple dozen blocks behind still but it feels good to do whatever I want to do for a DAY!
