Making Minis & Blog-O-Versary Giveaway Winner

While I'm trying not the share my cold, I have been working on the Minis from the QAL (Quilt-Alongs) and SAL (Sew-Alongs) that I did recently to get them into my TBQ (To Be Quilted) category.  Two of them were on the DWM (Design Wall Monday) posting this past Monday.

The first 2 are to the point of "flimsy" as far as I'm going to go with them, at least.

I 'frogged' all of the outer borders and re-trimmed"Purple Pumpkin Seeds" so that it would be straight.

I may add one more small purple border before I quilt it.  I don't have anymore of the lighter fabric.

Here is "FAITHFUL" ready for quilting.  I still have plenty of these tiny bonus Triangles in a ziplock baggie.

 I even found another baggie of the larger ones to play with next time there is a SAL like this.

It was another night of 'froggin'.  After I watched Bonnie on Quilt Cam I went to take the picture of 

the center part of my Nabby's Dowry, Opps again!!!

 I know it really doesn't matter what order the blocks are in.  Only I would know, or another Nabby's Dowry maker... I switched the center row so I had to remove the two seams and get it right before I add the final border. It will get a good pressing before I sew it on. The light blue sashing is made from strips I cut when I was starting my Midnight Flight.  I wasn't sure what fabrics I would use for the Blues. I hope there are some 1.5" strips needed for the next Bonnie Mystery... I cut the setting squares big, just in case.

We are sharing these with Pam Buda by December 1st and I wanted mine RIGHT!

There is a few yards of this pretty blue and I like how it looks for the final border.

Seems I'm liking the Blue/Brown quilt combo with this one and "Parcheezi".

A close-up picture of the border fabric. I think it is well-aged from my STASH- Time to use it!

The month isn't done yet so I still have time to play with some of the other blocks, like "Parcheezi" and "Thank Your Lucky Stars" that are ready to be put together as 'Flimsies" for my October Goals.

 I hope I can get one or maybe two of these minis quilted before the end of this year.

Sheepish Saturday

Saturday Morning I was at the Local "Sheep to Shawl" event at the Kirkman House in Walla Walla.

 Here are the sheep, waiting to be 'sheared'

 The Fehrenbacher's Farm brought them and I had to go and watch for a bit. 

 I started feeling very sorry for the poor sheep. 

This last picture shows the belly Wool all removed and part of the back Wool is coming off all together.

I took my "BEGINNER" Bobbin lace project with me to finish and I did get it mostly done. It's BOOK WORM.  I just need to cut it off the Bobbins now and take out all the pins.  Marilee had to give me lots of reminder help of how to do the Cross Twist Cross (the Cloth Stitch).  I haven't worked on my project much during the Summer.

 We have a Teacher's Showcase coming up this Tuesday at the Odd-Fellows.  Below are some of the examples of theWalla Walla Lacey Lacers group.  Tatting, Crochet, Knitting, Bobbin Lace, Romanian Lace, Needlelace, and Stick/Straw weaving too

 Here is my Friend Marilee, she posed for me with all of her projects.

 Our Group has a Spinner's and Weaver's group that has 'spun-off'. they have a lot of fun with it.  

This is Betty, she was Spinning.  

  I only stayed for a couple of hours.  Our Walla Walla Lacey Lacers have done this for a few years and I've missed going for some reason or another.  My calendar doesn't always allow me to go everywhere. And my Quilting/SEWING still takes most of my time. I was up at 4:15am to take Paul (DH) to work so a NAP was also on the agenda...Truck is in the SHOP this time.

 I had to go home and wait for my Krispy Kremes (WA Hi Cross Country Team is selling them as a Fundraiser)...and to Watch Bonnie Hunter on her QuiltCam, LOL. These 4 Flying Geese Blocks got sewn for the Pam Buda Nabby's Dowry SAL.  These are the last ones to make for this quilt.  Janet O has shown a Guess Layout HERE from my Comment that 13 Blocks work in an ON-Point setting.  Pam Buda replied to my comment by e-mail and said, "Don't be too sure". We will all find out how she has hers set together this coming Friday.  NO Stitching them together, YET!

I will post how my Blocks look with Janet's test/guess setting on my Design Wall Monday Post in the AM.
I am waiting to start on the Loyal Union Sampler for when the LUS Yahoo Group starts the Block of the Week.  My Quilt TOPS pile is getting deeper...

Design Wall/Floor Monday- August 19, 2013

After a LOT of Saturday Stitching I got my Homework done for the Class at Sew n Vac tonight. I had to set up my Janome to sew, that way I didn't have to take the Bernina off the Quilting Table.

Thank heavens I don't have to press all of these parts before I go.  I laid them out on my Living Room floor and sorted them a bit.  This will not be the final layout.
So much fun to see them this far along. Who knew I would ever make this pattern. 

That is a LOT of pieces. They look like butterflies on the floor right now.

  

I also have to show my 5.5" Pam Buda Nabby's Dowry Blocks.

Every Friday there is another one to make. HERE is the Link to see her Blog.

      Each block is different and I like them.

 

             I am stitching them on my 1950's Featherweight.

             I wonder what Block #7 will be???

              She hasn't told us how they will be set.

Tuesday/Wednesday Fun

 If it the 2nd Week of the Month it's time for Quilt Guild.  I usually spend the day making the Lotto Blocks and story board.  Good thing it was a fairly easy block that I chose.

I chose fabrics in colors my Grandma liked. Old fashioned calicos too.

I shared again how to spin the 4-patches.  And passed my sample around.

Barb Larson won the 6 Blocks Tuesday.  They really do look like SUMMER!

 

I see a secondary pinwheel in there, so cute!!!!

 

I got my 4 Blocks for the Nabby's Dowry SAL sewn together. They are 5.5" unfinshed.

 

I'm working on my Home work for the class I am taking at Sew -n-Vac.

I'm doing mine in Blue, Cream and Brown. 

 I have 7 pairs sewn and need to sew 29 more pairs by class next week.

Usng the 10 degree ruler makes the cutting easy... long, tedious, but easy.

Eddie used her band saw to make us templates out of an old cutting mat, for cutting the centers and Background fabrics.

Friday Temptation

To Start or not to Start...THAT is the Question???

  Each week Pam Buda adds a new block over at Heartspun Quilts to the Nabby's Dowry Sew-Along.  I have watched for 6 weeks now and I know I have the fabrics just waiting to be made into these blocks.  My 2 Civil War drawers are over-flowing. Kathy in Canada tempts me with her blocks, too. 

I could do these as my L/E (Leader/Enders).

HMMMMMM...

My HST tote has plenty to use also if I wanted to get the blocks made quicker and smaller.  That would be very scrappy. I would need to size them all down to one size,  most would be 1.5"- 2".

I will have a lot of Pressing to do with these hst's that are already sewn. 

I could do that while I catch up on my DVR-ed shows from last week-end, right?

There's a Ward Family Campout planned, but the weatherman warns of thunder and lightning.
