Quilting Time

It's National Quilting Month-

I asked DH [Dear Hubby] to make a Quilt Ladder for me. It fits in the front entryway.

Just 2 - 6 foot boards and 6 Dowels to go in the drilled holes.

I might stain it and put some fabric over the dowels to protect my Quilts.

I'm happy to display a few of my favorite Quilts.

This is still happening in my Living Room.

My Sister, Roma came over to help me put it on the frames and she has come to help Quilt a few days.

     

I love seeing the stitches from underneath.

This weekend is National sew a Jelly Roll Day

This past week was the anniversary of 9-11

We learned about a Crowther who was there and saved fellow workers.

I love the time we can spend with our 8 Year Old Grandchildren.

We went to Wyoming to be with Rebekah and took her to eat at her choice of restaurants.

JAK's was yummy. she got the Cheesy Fries and a corn Dog. 

The milkshakes are famous.

Hers was M & M. I got a Corn Dog too. Paul got a Pulled Pork sandwich.

Then we drove the 30+ miles to Afton to get Pictures of her at their Temple.

The flowers were beautiful there.

We saw 3 other children dressed in white getting pictures by the sign.

The following day she was Baptized and confirmed by her father, Brant

Always happy to get a picture with the newest Member of the Church.

She got a few new necklaces!

Her Grandma Teresa gave the only talk.

She talked about how Sunflowers follow the light and when it's dark, 

they turn towards another sunflower.

She challenged us to be SON-Followers and follow Christ.

She gave Rebekah a Sunflower necklace is to remind her.

This past week we took her cousin, Katie to Lunch in Tri-cities.

She chose OUTBACK, because they had Mac n Cheese.

She was very talkative and had to take some home in a to-go box.

Of course we had to get a Spotted-Dog Sundae for dessert.

Then we went to pick out her Journal and the nice ladies at 

Fountain Books put her name on it.

 Then we went up the road to the Columbia River Temple for pictures.

I remembered my Selfie Stick so we could both be in the picture.

OOps, I cut Moroni off on the top. 

Just a few more years and she can go inside.

She'll be Baptized in November in Kennewick.

We had a Busy weekend but the highlight was going up to meet with Paul's Siblings.

Always a great time to get pictures of all of us and the Original 5.

I hope I can get my Mormon Trail Quilt put on a Frame this week.

I don't have a big enough hoop to do the hand Quilting.

I do have frames and stands and Clamps. 

I had to go and buy big thumbtacks at Hobby Lobby.

Time is getting short to finish before we go back for Jeff & Chey's wedding.

Grandma's Quilting Camp 2021

It was fast and intense. Just 2 1/2 days/2 Overnights/3 Granddaughters!
We had to squeeze into the fast approaching, up coming School Schedule.

We missed having Lydia come this year.

It was Abby's 1st time to come and learn to Quilt.

She joined the Tiara Time Club. (her sisters forgot to bring their Tiaras)

New Quilting Grandma Camp Shirts (with Glitter) created by Grandma and her NEW Cricut.

I am so glad I learned how to use the Cricut on my Mission at the Mormon Trail Center.

Grandma made the choice to use Precuts and the Granddaughters each chose a different one.

Elizabeth Chose a Layer cake (10"squares)

Olivia chose a Jelly Roll (2 1/2" strips)

Abby chose a Charm Pack (2 were used, 5 " Squares)

Then, they chose coordinating and a background fabrics for their quilts.

It was a smart idea and saved a lot of cutting time.

Elizabeth did have to cut her layer cake into 2 1/2" strips to make the Flying Geese Blocks.

The older Granddaughters used the Companion Angle, Easy Angle & Essential Triangle Tool,  

to make the Flying Geese, Technique that they were given this year.

I choose a new Technique to use and give them a jumping off point.

 We played on EQ to find a block and create a sample Quilt idea.

What happens next is Magical.

How many Flying Geese can be made??

Olivia put the Pedal to the Metal and made over 200 of them.

She had to leave after the first full day.

Her parting words..." I'm not sure how soon my Quilt will get done with School starting."

She will need to come back for the sashing and/or Border fabrics.

Her block ideas are still formulating.

For her 1st Quilt, a 4-Patch Block was chosen.

The Pre-cut 5" squares made her 1st block turn out almost Perfect!

Just check out that center seam match.

She learned to keep the pieces close to the "fence" for a 1/4" seam.

Re-stitching and using the Seam Ripper, Iron, measuring tape and Gypsy Cutter were

 a few of the skills she learned.

The reward of a Chocolate KISS didn't hurt either.

All of her 4-Patch Blocks on the Design Wall.

She got them all sewn together and the top and bottom Borders sewn on. 

I think she felt very accomplished that night as she went to sleep.

This morning all she needed to do was measure and cut the final Borders and sew them on.

We measured the top in the Center and top and Bottom, surprisingly all the numbers matched!
It was a challenge to balance the Tiara and concentrate on her stitching.

She met the goal! Her Quilt top is completed.

She said, "The border is the 'Fence' around my Flower Garden!"

Patience was needed and frequent breaks to go on a walk and Helping Grandpa.

August Activities

August is here and it is Hot, Hot, Hot!

And the skies are Smokey!

No relief from the heat and the smoke. 

We have to get the outside chores done in the cooler part of the day.

Painting was chosen to work on to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning 

that is much cooler in the basement.

I wanted to do the painting of the Doors.

Dressed in my paint shirt and jeans from when we painted the Picnic Tables last Summer.

I used the Ceiling paint on Saturday to paint the Doors and trim.

It made a good Primer coat. I didn't like the finish.

Paul went back to get another can of a darker paint.

Dirt color, lol It's called Midtown.

The door of the coat closet upstairs needed a coat of paint.

All the years of taping the Christmas Cards on it pulled the paint off.

I said "Lets see if we like the center panel dark."

I had paint left on the roller and in the tray so I was using it up.

Inside of the Bathroom door, 

I used the brush only to finish using up the rest of the paint in the tray.

Some of the doors in the house have the doors darker. 

Others are just a shade darker than the walls.

My mind is going,.. do I like the Brush or the Roller?

Maybe we will paint the Master Bedroom a totally different color?

Cheap thrills since I had all last week to myself  while Paul was at Girl's Camp.

We learned so much with the Schaubs at the Trail Center.

 Now, all the paint in the house looks bad. Trim and doors are the worst.

This followed me home...

I've wanted a Cricut ever since President Johnson gave me the job of learning 

how to use the one at the Trail Center.  

I designed a LOGO for President Bennett and made T-shirts for all of us who wanted one. 

The  2 Track Symposium is coming right up this month.

CELEBRATE is the Theme.

It's the 175th Anniversary of the Latter-Day Saint Pioneers crossed the plains of Iowa.

The Trail Center Sisters dressed up in the Pioneer Dresses for Pioneer Day last month.

I love and miss them all so, so much.

I signed up for another Virtual Tour today.

 Sunday I got this Photo in my Messages.

Anne Benson Brown went to visit at the Trail Center and took a picture with 

my Mission President and his beautiful wife, Pat.

More evidence that my Heavenly Father knows my heart.

Hopefully next Blog will have something more Quilty.

HOME AGAIN!!

We're HOME!

We left Omaha last Tuesday to come home from our 18 month Mission.

We didn't rush, we stopped to see a few people on the way. 

We met Jan Haase and her Husband Tim at a Steak House in Casper.

She was a big support and help to me learning how to do the bookwork.😊

She always had a listening ear.

 And a stop at Martin's Cove.

Had to pull a Handcart around and read the sculpted signs.

 

We spent 3 days and 2 nights on the road. Took a different route than we had before.

Found a place to get an Ice- C in Wyoming.

The Baby size was nearly a pint of Yummy Ice Cream.

Maple nut for me and Strawberry Cheesecake for Paul.

Made it to Idaho and stopped in Jerome to see the Binghams, who left us early last year.

& a stop in Eagle, to have a Lunch with the Anderson's who left us in May.

Dear friends that live within a day's drive. 

We got to Washington and found an alternate way around the Road Construction area.

Waiting for us was both of our Daughters and their kids, Roma was outside with them and the sign.

Home Sweet Home

We have a few projects to work on here using the skills we learned on our Mission.

The heat made pulling weeds a chore so we had a weed attack one morning and went a got a few of our favorite flowers to plant by the front walkway.

Next on the agenda---Lights and install of the faucet in the Down stairs bathroom. 

While we were in Home Depot we got a 3-way mirror Medicine chest to go above the vanity.

It took a couple trips back and forth to Home Depot and the Store in Eastgate.

Looks great except one of the lights still doesn't work, had to just put in a regular light bulb.

Brant was a big help when he came to get the faucet installed and the Mirror up.

We swam and went to a Sweets Baseball game, walked to the park, played with the neighbors son, Mateo at Wildwood. and in our yard.

June Flowers and New Arrivals

It's been a while since we got the Armstrong's and the Anderson's and Michaelis' left.

I didn't get a great Picture of them as they left. We miss them & all the good times we shared on our Mission at the Trail Center in spite of Covid!

Sister & Elder Armstrong

Elder Armstrong had a minor stroke a few days before coming, we are so blessed to have them here.

 In the next few weeks we will get another couple and hopefully a replacement for us as FM  Missionaries. 

In May, my Sister and her Husband came to visit. we took them to all the fun places.

We had to go walk Bob the Bridge, go see the Pioneer Courage Park and Baker's Candies. I'm glad they could make the side trip on the way to Becca's Graduation. in Oklahoma. 

June snuck in the back door.  We are busy keeping the weeds from taking over the flowers at the Trail Center and Kanesville. Thank heaven for Christy Cream and Culver's yummy treats to ward off the heat.

We ordered a 2nd swivel hoe so we can work together. Early mornings are best with the Humidity.

Plans have changed and we won't be puling a trailer home. That means I'm using Vacuum sealed bags and big boxes to stuff full and send home.

YES, I have collected a few things that might not FIT in the FIT!

I've been having way too much fun taking Sister Bennett for rides to run errands and get groceries. Even if we get lost and off track by 20 miles or so...

We share so many of the same interests, and finish each other's sentences! Like we knew each other for years.

Hope to get a few more trips in, gonna use the GPS every time from now on.
