Jo's Bonnie UFO Challenge Link-up Finale

I thought last week was the last Link-up...
So I showed my progress in my pre-written Blog post HERE.
Now that I am home I can share more.
My scrapilicious finishes in the snow today.
My Midnight Flight is DONE!!! and Tic Tac Bowties is a Flimsy.
YEA for this challenge to get me motivated to pull these UFO's out of hiding.
My Double Delight is still in the tote!

The rest are shown HERE
Better luck next year to work on more of my Bonnie UFO's.

Today I'm stitching on more Clue 1 blocks for the Grand Illusion Mystery
on my trusty Bernina Quilter's Edition 140. Using my Cutting Gizmo a LOT!
I wish I could COUNT!
I need more Pink fabric to finish these, UGGG

I have fallen twice outside since coming home.
I wasn't going to show any pics but after falling a 2nd time I took this 'selfie'.
I'll spare pics of the Big Purple bruise on my hip/thigh.
It is really SLICK out there.
Singing the "If it weren't for bad luck" song...

Jo & Nell's Bonnie Hunter UFO 2014 Challenge Update

It's Binding time for my Midnight Flight.
I took advantage of a good picture day to take more pictures of it outside and show off the quilting.
Close-up of the quilting on the scraps hidden in the blocks.

I love my hanging set-up outside to take pictures of my quilts.
Just a piece of  Conduit suspended by 'S' hooks and some drapery clips.
I'm very thankful for a nice step stool to reach and clip it onto the pole.

So...my quandry today is- How many colors of Blue Shadow Play are there?
The Binding strip on the left isn't enough to go all the way around.
I went to the LQS where I thought I had purchased the Border fabric.
Nope- wrong color of Blue. I even had a piece to compare it.
Sadly -No deal.
So I thought I'd just buy more of this Moda Swirl and bind it with that.
I had considered a scrappy binding using all of the shades of Blue...ummm- NO.
I must have bought that Border fabric out at my Quilt Buddy's shop.
She's not available right now to go out there and check so  I might as well call it done for now.
By the time I get all of the binding sewn on and the label added this quilt will have a
Total = 3,248 pieces!

I'm linking up HERE with Jo's Country Junction.

Design Wall Monday- October 27,2014

I am late posting this AM, I just needed to SLEEP!
On my Design Wall today I want to show the quilt my DD #1 sent me.
I knew it would happen...
quilting
She sent me this pic from PINTEREST on October 9th.
Looks EASY enough.  She wants me to "help her make it"
If you know the pattern let me know.  I think I could figure it out but want to give the designer credit...
I really don't like Pinterest for that reason...
LOL I think I have that Hydrangea fabric, hahaha

I have nothing on the Quilting table so today is the day to remedy that!
We all know which quilt needs to go on there, I don't have to even show the picture...

"Betsy" did a good job helping me get my Midnight Flight finished for the Jo & Nell Challenge.
I have entered it in the Blogger's Quilt Festival HERE .
I'm So glad I finished it!
When I realized I don't have a Quilt with Warm & Natural to use this Winter.
I put it in this one.   I really like my Tuscany but am running out of it.
Guess what's going on my Bed?
The direct link to read all about it is HERE

It's a Rainy Looking Day and a MONDAY here!
I'm heading over HERE to see what everyone else is showing on their WALLS.
I'll link up Wednesday with Jo & Nell!

Wednesday - Flimsy Finish

I should be making my BOM's and BOW's.
Instead I decided to finish this UFO from last year's Block Party before it gets any older in the Tote.
I un-sewed and re-pinned the one corner of the inner border on during Quilt Cam last night.
It was a trick to get the squares to turn the corner.
The wind didn't help much to get a good picture outside on Tuesday.

My Midnight Flight
started at Block Party March 2013
Pattern by Bonnie Hunter-  Quiltville.com
3,138 pieces TOTAL
(each 12" block has 88 pieces)
I changed the Inner Border.
Rather than make more of the Purple trapezoids I chose to use the extra 4-Patches I already had
& set them on-point with two colors of Triangles.
See her border in this picture I took with Krista Yokum who sat next to me at the Block Party.
Here's my Pic with Bonnie.  That's her Midnight flight in the background.
I think I'm smiling just like this now that it is to the Flimsy!
I just have to add it to the To Be Quilted Stack.
It's #12 on that list.
The pattern is in her newest book
More Adventures with Leaders and Enders available HERE

As for my Monthly Goals---
August Goals
1- Finish M & C's Bouquet of Friendship Quilt- Flimsy
2-American Made Challenge- DEADLINE August 15th Didn't get Done
3- Lori Holt's Cut, Press, Sew, Quilt (NewFO) Not yet
4- Keep up BOM's  -A-Z, Globetrotting, Guild Lotto -some done
I made my Guild Block and the Globetrotting Block.
I've made just 1 of the Loyal Union Sampler Blocks of the Week this month.
I still need to work on my A-Z Block of the Month and start the CUT PRESS SEW QUILT.
Maybe that's what I will take to work on at the FAIR.

Design Wall/Floor Monday- August 18,2014

It's been a fun week-end and I am happy to report I survived the Family Campout.
The family quilt didn't get the new additions added because B & T's family had car trouble.
We missed them.

On the design wall/Floor is my Midnight Flight Quilt still - waiting for the last borders to be added.
I figured that choosing the final border would help me decide for certain which way for the pieced border.
I dug through some of my STASH to find some fabrics that
1-might have enough to work for the final border.
2- Look good with the Pieced border.
Blue inside?
To me it looks like if I put the Blue inside with the Pink outside that Pink Border is best.
The reverse it true as well.
DH likes the solid Blue on the lower right corner.

 Pink Inside
I'm headed out to "Thread and Bolts" to see what my Quilt Buddy thinks of these border choices.
She might have something in the shop that works even better.
You can leave your comments to choose the fabric you think is best.
"It might be BEST to just flip a coin"  someone on FB said last week...LOL

Design Wall Monday January 20, 2014

First I have to show the pictures that my Friend Jessica took of me at
Guild the day before my 57th Birthday.
Me holding up my "Faithful" Mini Quilt from the Lori of Humble Quilts SAL last year.
(click the link to see other "faithful" quilts)
It's is finally done except for a hanging sleeve and label.
I sewed the Black border around my "Midnight Flight" in time to show it off at Guild too.
This pattern will be in Bonnie Hunter's next book- 'More Adventures with Leaders and Enders'.
I just might do the border as is was on her Quilt at the Block party.
I made a bunch of the same units for the  Celtic Solstice Mystery, below, I may as well keep making them.
Do I look happy to have this top completed?  I think so!
I added an extra inch or so to the border.

Here's my FREE Birthday Cake that I WON from calling the Radio Station.
While we were in town to CELEBRATE DH's Mom's 90th Birthday we picked up this $29.99 Shelf.
I have been re-arranging and trying to make room for my NEW TOY!
I have 2 Granddaughters coming to 'help' me this week.
There's No school for them Monday or Tuesday.
My Viking with 10' Quilt Table will be delivered by the end of the month.
No Before Pictures were taken, maybe I'll show some After pictures.
I'm finding I have A LOT of Totes full of fabrics.
Per my Mother-by LOVE's  request, we all went to the Columbia River Temple.
I showed her the quilt I made for her two Christmases ago.
I'm going to get finished now that my machine is finally coming.
I think she liked it. She said it was a work of art. I shared it HERE.

The weather has turned bad with Freezing Fog since that Sunny day on my Birthday.
I had to hang my Celtic Christmas Quilt up to see how it looks at home.
See how I made the Red go around both ways of the circle?
I really like all the Fun fabrics in my Greens, ie: Christmas Frogs, Candy Canes, Bells, Reindeer,
Stockings, & Holly, glitter - even some Carrots that had a green background.
Part 10 of this Quilty Fun SAL will be posted today HERE.
I got last week's done but haven't posted it to the Flickr account in time for the prizes.
We made Quarter Square Triangles or Hourglass units.
Lots of 30's scrappiness in these parts.

Jo & Nell Bonnie Challenge Link-up

Another week has passed and I still don't have the borders on my "MIDNIGHT FLIGHT".
This morning when Bonnie says QuiltCAM @ 2pm EST (11 AM PST)- I thought  that gives me time to get my fabrics ready to CUT out the Border parts and get some made.  Lets see what I got done?
I think I like using the "Eternal Swirl" as Bonnie so lovingly called this Moda Swirl fabric.
I had a few 4-patches left so I want to use them in the borders. The lLt Blue has good contrast.
What do you think?  Pink inside or outside?
#1
 #2
I thought that the Inner Black border was needed to contain the center of the quilt before adding the border.
I have leftover Black strips I can use scrappy for that.

And I gathered some Greens and Blues for the NEW Mystery
When I went to Lowe's for the Paint cards I picked these colors out to tone down the brightness of the Blues and Greens. I like them much better than the YELLOW and ORANGES.

Design Wall Monday- November 4,2013

There is so much going on at my house that I can NOT show on the BLOG...
I am excited to be ahead on the planning of my Family Christmas Gifts.
NOW to just work on them steadily until December and get them all done.

I didn't link up to the Jo and Nell's Challenge on Saturday. I can add my Link HERE today.
I haven't worked much on my "Midnight Flight" quilt.  I am having different visions of the borders to go on this quilt.  I keep thinking that this Ziplock Bag of Bonus Triangle Squares NEEDS to be used.
The choosing HOW??? is the hard part. Please help me decide.
Should I sew them into
A-Pinwheels
B- Ribbons
C- Flying geese
D- Sawtooth  strips
I worked on my Block of the Week for Guild next week, and sewed the binding on my Faithful Quilt.
It's ready to stitch down on a road trip.
It's been a week of keeping secrets, saying goodbye to some good  friends and now that the NEW Bishop has been called and sustained, I can breathe a BIG sigh of relief.
6+ years of his Faithful Service to the members of our Ward is over.
Paul and I wore our Walla Walla SWEETS t-Shirts for our costumes for Halloween.

So that makes 3 quilts- that got sewn together and are ready for the Final Borders.

Wednesday- WOW

What am I Working on Wednesday???
(WOW)
I sewed up all of the Midnight Flight Blocks because I didn't have room to trim my
Sarah's Choice Stars Swap Quilt to add the borders to it.
Posted the question PINK or BLUE for the inner border to the FB and now I have a different plan to make a pieced border for this quilt.  Bonnie's pattern has 145 of these units and I know I don't want to do those...
They would have a pink on one end and blue on the other.  That is a Lot of cutting sewing and trimming off the Bonus triangles.  I already have a ziplock bag FULL of them from the center of the quilt.
I used my Marti Michell "A" Templates and sewed up my Block of the Week for my
B & W Loyal Union Sampler.  Gotta upload it still.

LASTLY I'm re-testing this pattern and helping my Friend make it in soft pastel colors.
I'm taking my GO Baby Cutter over to cut it all out with her this AM.
The Flower is different using the Round Flower DIE.
I don't know how to import the Go Die image into the EQ7, Help!!!???
We picked the colors out at Auntie Ida's when we went to Hermiston for the Haircut and Dye jobs.
So what are you working on???  Anything that you can show?
Christmas is coming and I know there are a LOT of Secret Projects out there.

Aloha LUS Blocks

I hope you aren't tired of seeing these cute Aloha Blocks yet.
I have only 6 more to make and then on to the Sashing.  I went out to my Quilt Buddies and
got some Math and Marti Template help to get them cut out.
This would be a very small quilt without the sashings.
I had a Meeting Tuesday night so No stitching until  later.
DH came to where I was stitching Monday night, not to Complain but to mention that the sewing machine was keeping him awake.  So I will just do more cutting out so I don't disturb him.
I have substituted some of the Blocks that I don't want to make and will use ones that have meaning to me.
I've been re-reading the Union Quilter and see some familiar names that Jennifer used
in the book and for the Blocks and I am making those.
Paper pieced blocks and the appliqued Block were eliminated because of Crunch time!

Also on last month's goals and again on the Get It Done list for October-

My LAST 3 Midnight Flight Blocks.
Did you hear a WHOO HOO ???

You would think that when I'm so close I would have just gotten them done.  I thought I had all the parts done last evening... I had to make even more of the Purple Blades to assemble these Final blocks.  I'll stitch the final seams tomorrow, now that all of the quarter units finished.
The END is in sight on this Flimsy!

The weatherman is threatening SNOW for my trip to Colorado.
I hope that the weather doesn't keep Jennifer away.
Crossing my fingers!

End of July! New-FO & Get it Done...

I did OK on my July Goals- 2 out of 3 isn't bad considering I had to quilt Rebekah's Baby quilt
all by myself and went on a Retreat.

3-Re-Make Stitchin' Heaven Quilt -BLUE -Center is done, needs last borders

Sneak peek at quilting on Baby "Katie's Choice" quilt for Grand-daughter #6, Grandchild #19. Because of limited throat space I had to just meander in the center blocks.  The full "reveal" comes on Friday after the Baby Shower.
                                                       "Somewhere in Time"- Blue version
Center all sewn together after I "frogged" one 4-patch and put it the right way.
I'm so glad there was only one and that I found it while sewing it together.
 27 "Midnight Flight" Blocks
I found 1- 4-patch turned in one of the blocks I finished at Retreat.
Taking pictures has saved my quilt boo-boos this week.
****For my NewFO, I started the Fair Banner****

Design Wall Monday- July 29. 2013

I've got a LOT to show from the SE Washington Retreat I went on this past week.
There is nothing like 3 days of constant sewing and laughing and "Quilting by Committee". Marilee and I stopped by and found out that June and July aren't as busy at the Retreat center so the cost is less. We bring our own bedding and prepare our own meals.  That makes Retreating so affordable.

Thursday I got to the Retreat Center at Ratherbe's and the Katie's Choice quilt was the first project to be worked on, it's got all the borders on now and is ready to be quilted.
Her Baby Shower is this coming Thursday so I will save the REVEAL for Friday's Post.
It is going on the Bernina Quilting Table Today!
Friday was the day to put parts and pieces of  "Midnight Flight" Blocks together.
I already had a bunch of 4-patches and Hst's made, just a few of the Purple parallelograms.
I was able to get 3 of the 88 piece blocks up on the piece of flannel that was my Design Wall at Retreat.
Then I started making these units and had a stack of these ready to mix and match on Saturday.
Saturday I used all the parts and pieces I had with me and my total "Midnight Flight" blocks is now at 27!
Here are the 12 I did at Retreat. 9 more to go for the 36 needed,
I could just make 3 more and set it 6x5--- decisions, decisions...
I sewed my already assembled blocks for the "Somewhere in Time", the Stitchin Heaven Re-make 'tester' quilt from last year.  I had the pairs pinned and ready to sew, I thought.  I sewed them but my pile got shuffled so they weren't all the same direction.  I will do some 'frogging' and show it on Wednesday, OK?
It is time for the Monthly "Get it Done" report that day.

On Saturday we had our "Purple Picnic"

L-R: Joyce, Marcia, Kathy, Marilee, Julie, Mel, and Lou Ann.

On the Menu we had many variations of foods that are PURPLE. Kathy made her Borscht.
There were Blue/Purple corn chips and prize winning Cherry Salsa,  Bread with Huckleberry Honey, Purple Grapes, Grape Jigglers, Blackberry Cupcakes, Blueberry banana Muffins, Lavendar Shortbread cookies, Purple Plums, Grape soda floats( sometimes known as Purple Cow).  The Purple Picnic was started many years ago.
It is in Memory of our WASIQ(Washington State Internet Quilters) Members who have passed away.
A great Tradition to remember them at our Retreat. We share more than quilting  with our Online group.
This year we had it for Julie's son who passed away suddenly Father's Day weekend.                         Julie missed the Leavenworth Retreat because his Memorial was that week-end.

I made these Pizza Rolls that have been all over Facebook for dinner Saturday evening.

Ham, black olives and cheese & Sausage, black olives and cheese.
I made some with ham, sausage and cheese also.  YUMM-O

We were lucky to have all 3 of our Yahoo Group Moderators with us at this Retreat.
Melody, Kathy, & Julie

Let's do it again next year!
 .
LouAnn and I left after Dinner on Saturday and passed this hill of wheat on fire.
A very SAD day during the start of Wheat harvest.
She had a family Reunion to pack for, and my ARMY Son started his Terminal Leave.
He drove all night to come home. I wanted to be there and since I don't sew on Sundays anyway...
why pay for another night??
