Wow-Wednesday- 2nd time Robin Ruth Class

We had a full class to make
Mariners Compass blocks.
Robin Ruth taught us with her special ruler and Revised Book!

I know,  I took her class before...
I wanted to learn again from her,
all the new tricks and tips.
I even got her APP to work on my phone.
It's awesome to see how the Compass block would look before cutting the strips.
I used White & Purple Fairy Frost.
I can hardly wait to make another one!
But 1st...
More appointments to get our Missionary paperwork done.

Design Wall Monday- April 17, 2017

I'm happy to show what I learned at the Robin Ruth Class.
Our goal was to make just one Block for a Pillow.
Image may contain: 1 person, smiling
Which basically took all day!
I had "Big Pie" before we stopped for Lunch.
The 2 halves were ready to stitch soon after.

Here's our Class
Image may contain: 9 people, people smiling, indoor

My 2 Mariner's Compass blocks on my New Design Wall
I had to finish the 2nd one to make sure I could remember how.
Robin is a great Teacher. Her website is HERE
Here we are at the Trunk Show.

The Trunk show was inspiring.
I'll share those pictures on Wednesday.

Funky Friday

Tonight is the Trunk Show before the Workshop.
I am taking to finally learn how this ruler works.

I met Robin in 2015 at the Krazy Horse Quilt Show

I bought the ruler that day and it is still in the package.
I bought the second one when I saw her at Trends in Portland.

I saw her at Road to CA, too
Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling

I guess I'm kinda her 'stalker'.
I need to choose some Pretty colors to make my New Mariner's Compass.
I swore I'd never make another one,
but here I go.
It's a Good Friday.
Happy Easter Weekend!

Design Wall Monday - February 18, 2013

Saturday was a busy day but I ended it with some Sewing!  I feel much better now that I am caught up with my Block of the Month Blocks for February's Small Group Meeting this week.

The Marti Michell Block of the Month is coming right along. February blocks are l-r: "Moonlight Reflection" and "Fantasticks".  We get to start making the Alternate chain blocks for this quilt in March. It helps to take the time to sit and cut out a few of the Blocks so when I have time I can just assemble them.  Marti's instructions make it EASY.  These two blocks didn't go together as I would have done them.  It's always great to follow the directions.
I've got the 1st border almost ready to attach to the Mariner's Compass.  I'm liking this better now that there is more to it.  Next is a the setting triangles to turn the whole center on-point- then it's Pinwheels in the varied colors.  So it's nearly done since I'm making it lap sized. The pinwheels are 4".

The Saturday FUN included a trip to Tri-Cities to watch Grandchild #5 play Basketball.  His father has been telling me how well he is playing.  It was nice to go see a game with Grandpa before the end of the season.  I took this action shot photo and got the ball in mid air above the basket. Do you think it went in?  Since they didn't keep score it didn't really matter.
We were out past where Paul's Mother is so a quick visit before Lunchtime was in order.  Lunch for us was a Sonic Burger and some Onion Rings with a Chocolate Cherry Milkshake.  We had to stop at Costco and get fuel. It is right by the Wool shop "Sheep's Clothing so I got 3 skeins of Wool Yarn for my next Knitting project. Lace Guild also meets this week.

Design Wall Monday- February 11, 2013

I survived the surgery and have removed the patch...right now it just looks I have a black eye.  Waiting was the worst part. The Stitches come out on Thursday.  Since post-op instructions included the warning to NOT operate machinery, I haven't sewn.  I decided I could cut things out so I tested my skill with one eye and got the square in a square pieces cut for the 1st border of the Mariner's compass quilt.  They will go together like the 2nd photo.

While resting with the patch on my eye I tried a bit of knitting and crochet.  Bonnie Hunter shared the directions to make a Spool Doily for our Vintage machines. Thanks to Shelvy for the directions, they are found HERE.  I had noticed them on her machine when I watched QuiltCam a few times before and tried to make them.  The first ones I tried to make are the yellow ones.

I did a little different edge than the directions and made the lavender one for my Featherweight.
My other machines have a side spool post so I can't use them there.  I can put one under my cone thread spool holder though. Aren't they cute??  Bonnie H. says she has some Tatted ones too that she has been given.  Another soon to be long lost craft to learn. It's on my list, now I have something else to make.

Design Wall Monday- November 5, 2012

I have two quilts in progress to show today. First up is my Mystery by E-mail quilt.  The same one I showed on Last Monday's DWM POSTING, Remember? As far as I can presume the Option 2 is the solution to the Mystery.
Here is my Quilt almost a Flimsy.  Banter on the Facebook page made me stop sewing the rows together.  Heather reminded us there is one more CLUE.  And her DH keeps taunting us with Rip-It, Rip-It jokes.
Right or wrong this is how it will go.  I have stared a 2nd one to make with the other Layout Option. Just because I can...
I selected some colors for the Commission Quilt I am making for a Lady in my Church. She paid $$ to our Ward Girls's Camp Fund so I get to make her a Quilt.  These are some of her favorite colors.

I made up half of the Center in the extra hour of sewing time I had on Saturday night.  I showed it to her at Church and got the reaction I needed to go forward and finish it.  I found the Pink-y fabric in my Stash and though for a change a colored background might be fun. Paper-Piecing still isn't my favorite, but I like this pattern and she LOVED it.  The center Measures 18" finished.
The Pattern is from Jennifer Chiaverini's "Round Robin" Quilt Book.  The 2nd book in her Elm Creek Quilter's series. I wont' be doing the whole quilt as it is pictured. Just a Lapsized this time. the 2nd round is square in a Square 4.5" blocks on point.
