Today is the Deadline day!
As of last evening my Red and White Quilt is a Flimsy.
I have enjoyed very much seeing it come to life under my needle.
I changed the way I assembled it a little from the EQ7 layout I made first HERE.
The center Block was made in June. HERE
For the 4 corners I change the Mitered corner to a straight corner and
put the tri-recs on the fold and eliminated that seam. The "recs" part (c,b) still is cut the same and sewn on each side meeting in the center of the diamond (tri- f) shape.
Next I added the 2"border.
I cut 2-12" squares, then sub-cut once on the diagonal for the corners.
(note: I trimmed and squared down the block to a 1/4" from the 4 point where the red meets)
Doing it this way the extra triangles were eliminated on the corners.
That makes 12 seams I didn't have to sew.

Here is the 2nd red border added and testing the Pieced borders - ready to stitch on.
I added a 3.5" final Border of the Red Shadow Play fabric
AND...the Flimsy is DONE!!!
(a day early, I must say, scheduling this posting for the am)
I LOVE IT!!!!

I re-read the FAQS over at SewCal Gal and it says I can link up with just the top for now.
Phase 4- "Show it" I will get it finished the rest of the way. Oct 1st-10th
I don't want to rush the quilting.
Red or White thread? Maybe a Verigated???

It's a darling piece -- way to go! I love the eye interest of the center. I'd say white thread. But that's just me. :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Mary. I'd complicate things and match the threads to the fabric, but if you are doing an all-over panto, that isn't possible. Then I struggle with whether to go light or dark. I'm curious to see what you choose. : )
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Mary! I love the idea of variegated thread myself... but I also like the look of white on white... eh, go with what you feel! LOL
