We saw more Tulips and Daffodils at the Temple.

Love walking by all the color blooming.

It's almost too pretty to stay inside and stitch.

Quilt Guild Fun

Guild night was Fun!
We had a bunch from Pendleton visit us.
A Presentation from Nancy K on  4- Patch Slice ,
 a quick quilt made from Charm packs and one more fabric.

I took 2- Z Cross Blocks to put in the Lotto

There were only 6 total and I was the Lucky winner with my #15.

For August we will make this Block
July is our Potluck and Treasure Sale.
It's called "A Dandy"
as in Yankee Doodle Dandy, I suppose.

I hope we get more than 6 blocks. A part of them could be donated to the AHQ in Jessica's honor.
The fabric constant is the Blue.

November Quilt Guild/ Lotto Blocks

 9 ladies brought thier sets of 4 blocks for the LOTTO.  

I should have made another set with more autumn fabrics.

It's called Joseph's Delight. I told them to use Christmas colors and a cream background. 

Maybe I should have said red or green background with a Christmas print.

My Secret Pal brought me more gifties in a cute thermal bag/cooler.

It was a fun guild with Jan and JoAnne sharing tips on how to quilt your quilts.  

Whether by a Domestic sewing machine or a Longarm.

Making 'Many' Parts of 'Many' Quilts this week

 I have to show my story board for Guild here with the parts and pieces I demonstrated to make this months' Block Lotto, Card Basket from Quilter's Cache. Click HERE for the pattern. I didn't remember to show the HST method in the Block. I placed the pins to show the direction of stitching on either side of the line.

 The cutting for the quarter-squares I changed from the 5-1/4" square cut twice on the Diagonal to using the Companion Ruler like I showed on Monday's Post.  The pattern shows one of those triangles cut in half and sewn back together.  We'll see how many use the trick I showed them.

 I stayed home all day Tuesday, and sewed more parts of Midnight Flight. There are enough of the Blue corners to make 5 more blocks.  I'm still having fun spinning the 4-patches, they are pretty tiny, but so cute! I think I've got this figured out even though I had to do a bit more 'frogging'. I'm doing the Pinwheels for Cassie's Mariner's Compass quilt as L/E (Leader/Enders).
The Multi-colored 9- patches are done and I found 7 more that were leftovers that Lynn shared from her 9-patch quilt she made for her caregiver. 13 just from my 2.5" tote. I'm about halfway to the 42 I need to make the Sister's Choice like Bonnie's.




 I think I should make a totally PINK one for my Grand-daughter that I found out is 95% sure it's a Girl for J & K. The 2 Big Brothers got to make the call to tell me. They were pretty excited to share the news. Time for MOM and Grandma to go shopping. I have a surprise already made for her when they have a shower.  Maybe I'll give it to K for her Birthday in June...I don't think I can wait til September to show it.  I could even put it in the Walla Walla Fair if I wait.  Choices, choices.

Lastly, My Secret Pal didn't forget me. Cute fabric, a New Author to read, trim and thread socks.

If Wishes were Fishes...

WHEW!  My busy week is only half over.  Yesterday was the Monthly Guild Meeting.  I had to go out to Lynn's and make at least 1 Block for the Block Lotto.  It was the Spool Block for July with a choice of one big 12" spool or 4- 6.5" spools put together in a 12' block. I had to make one that really looked like a Spool. That gave me two chances to win. Guess who won the Block Lotto?  ME!    
Can you tell which two are mine???  # 3 and #4, of course. What do you think?  Guess I can't say "No New Projects"...  This one needs at least one more to make 6 or 4 more so the small spools can be in the middle of a 9 block formation.  These don't take too long to make and they are 12" so it's a nice break from the 6.5" of the Farmer's Wife Blocks, 8" Civil War Blocks and 3" Bow Ties.

Chris J received her Hearts and Flowers Quilt. Her mother passed away in May.  Lynn W made this top.  I love all the bright 9-patches and Machine embroidered blocks in it.  I made a few of the 9 patches. I don't have an Embroidery machine so I can't make those.  Owning an Embroidery Machine really isn't even on my Bucket list. Imagine That? There were only a few show and share quilts, and the meeting was adjourned early , YEA!

In July and December that also means POTLUCK and TREASURE sale.  It's always fun to see what comes to be bid on, the Treasure sale is done like a silent auction.  Some items go quite HIGH, like a stack of patriotic prints that was at $10 last I checked.   I won most of the bids I made.  There were a couple that I had to bid twice on... The sparkly Purple fabric was one I really wanted (it's in the center below the big box of Scraps). What is it that makes it more fun to go through someone elses scrap box?  There is some Daisy Kingdom panels, a bunch of 6' squares in Scrappy and Christmas prints, a bit of flannel and the two panels in the front of the picture. I had to keep those two out for dreaming...one is a Baby Book the other an Apron with Lambs on it. I bid on one of the rolls of Quilt stencils and got them all. The 'vintage' magazines were just a quarter each.  Jo Ann gave me the Buggy barn water bottle after the sale was over, guess no one bid on it.
After I got home I had to dig through the box and cut more Bow ties.  Here is 43 more, ready to sew.

My secret pal is adding to my Stash of Lamb fabrics.  I'll have quite a collection when the year is over. See the cute soap she found?  I love my Secret Pal, it is amazing how kind and generous she is to me!  Only 5 more months until I find out who she is. Big "Cyber hugs" whoever you are!!!

Speaking of surprises... LOOK what arrived from my Dear Daughter-by-Love in Idaho.

A Sweet Thank you note and a Purple necklace.  I think I'll be wearing it this next Sunday!

About that title...today I could have been traveling with my WASIQ friend Julie H to Sisters, if I could have just found a place to stay for the rest of the week.  All hotels, motels and B& B's were either full or required 'double occupancy'.  What a Bummer.  Instead, I'll be at home playing with fabric and having my own lonely retreat in the basement.   There is plenty to keep me busy and off the streets...

 My first picture shows how it is made big and then trimmed down to the 12".  Lynn noticed the boo boo right away, I forgot to put the last red checked square on that vertical center row.  I unpicked it and re-sewed it.  I loved how Lori H called the rows Baby, Mama, Grandma and Great-Grandma.  My fabric choices have reflected each one for me.

AND... There is a Give-away over there too for some of her new line of "MILLIE's Closet" Fabric.  Millie was her beloved Grandma.

I'm not Irish - these blocks were the Block Lotto Blocks I was suppose to take to guild meeting on Tuesday. I put my "Balkan Puzzle" together like my "Windblown Square" by mistake and had to do some "frogging".  I told the Winner, Dilsey, I would bring her my Blocks.  These were made using the fun trick shared on "Craftsy".  The directions help you make 4 HST's at a time. The Balkan Puzzle was the February Block of the Month on Craftsy.  Thanks to Marilee.

You sew around the outside of a square then cut twice on the diagonal.  The edges are on the bias but I was careful and it worked ok for me. 12" blocks are fun to make.

My Block of the week for the Sylvia's Bridal Sampler Group was C-1 Contrary Husband

 I needed to make this one for my 30's Sylvia's Bridal Sampler anyway so here it is. 6.5" block made with Marti Michell Templates.  I have a bunch of blocks cut out now and next week is the Farmer's Wife Small Groups meeting at Thread and Bolts.  I am trying to catch up with our fearless leader, Lynn. I hope to at least have my March Blocks finished in time for the meeting next week.  Wait and see if they are the Design Wall Monday.

How are you Celebrating the 2 Holidays? I remember making Crocheted 'Green' Shamrocks for my children to wear so they wouldn't get pinched.  And making Green food for dinner.
It is so fun to have a Quilt Related Holiday on the Calender.  Not that I need a reason to Quilt...

Almost December 2011

My Army son has noticed that I haven't updated my Blog since Monday... I have been busy but have not much I can show on here until after the gift giving is all done.  Next week is Quilt Guild and I have a block to make for the Hearts and Flowers project- that is the Lotto for December.  It is a block with two 6.5 nine patches and two heart or flowers appliqued or stitched, then pieced into a four patch in alternating corners.  It is similar to the January Block Lotto we had at Guild.  The Link to the Pattern is HERE at Quilter's Cache. I  made these two Scrappy Trips from Bonnie Hunters' pattern for the Block Lotto Blog November Block last night.

Not a Winner this month... I'll be mailing these two out to one of the 9 winners drawn today.

I'll be drawing the name for my GIVEAWAY drawing tonight after the clock strikes the Midnight Hour.  There has been quite a few interested in winning the Magazine.  I had trouble finding it and bought two so I could get them signed.  I think I drove all over my little town and went to 8 places before I found it that night before we left to go see Jennifer.

My Christmas Gifts for the Grandchildren are Half-way done. Only 8-9 more to make and they are all done. I have one more project to finish before Jeff leaves to go to Cuba.  It might be the last minute to get that one made...it might have to get mailed! 

Friday Stitching

Now that the Challenge is done I wanted to do some Fun stitching.  I haven't been doing the Block Lotto in a few Months ---so that was on the agenda. 

I finished the last word for the Word Play Quilt while sewing at Lynn's on Wednesday. I had to un-sew the little weird part off the "H" and put solid on there.  Thank heavens for the Camera "eye" to show me mistakes. Now to make some more blocks to intersperse between the words.  I changed my mind about using the "Therapy in Session" panel.  That will have to go with some other 'orphan' blocks I have laying around.

 Also some more Leader/Ender Bowties. I'll save those to show on DESIGN WALL MONDAY!

Design Wall Monday - April 18,2011

As promised here are the Lotto Blocks I won from the BLOCK LOTTO Blog. There are 48 blocks here - two are mine. 6x8 makes 48 as I learned in the 3rd grade. I have them matched into pairs and am ready to sew them together. Then I get to decide what to do for the borders...

I never imagined that I would win the first month I participated. It was so fun to have so many squishies waiting for me when I got home from my journey. I have to show them on my wood floor upstairs because my SWAP blocks are on my Wall downstairs. So many shades of red in there, don't you think?

March Block Lotto

Today I have made two blocks to submit to the March Lotto. Thanks to Pat H for the link to see the Block Lotto Blog and to Sophie for letting me join today. I just recently learned about the D4P block. You can click on the links at the Blog to get the Patterns. You can find the Button here on my blog too.

This block is made by cutting 5" squares to make the 4-patch. Each WOF cut of 2 fabrics makes 4 blocks. The four patch is cut 1" away from the center seam of the 4-patch, then sewn back together as a 9-patch. It results in a 8" finished Block.
