Design Wall Monday- August 10, 2015

It was a fun but LONG week without any stitching...
Did you miss me Posting Wednesday and Friday???
I was a little bit busy with these Boys.
& I have been moving and shuffling stuff around in the Quilt Zone!
No pictures- it's a BIGGER Mess than when I started.
I was glad to get up Saturday morning without an alarm and sew what I wanted to sew.
I chose to play with my Farm Girl Friday Blocks.
I was behind from last week.
I fussy cut the windows for my Old Red Barn with some of the words in the
Modern Minis fabric I got from the Fat Quarter Shop.

     Out to Pasture                              Patchwork Pumpkin
I don't have much Orange in my fabric stash, so some of these prints are more golden and I fussy cut an orange flower from a greenish print.
I am now all caught up and even made my Penny Pig Block.
He needs his curly tail to be embroidered on.

This week the Fat Quarter Shop announced another SAL for the 1930's Farmer's Wife HERE.
It starts September 28th.
I already have the book,  I bought it in June and Posted it HERE.
Not that I need yet another project to use my 30's collection, but you know how I am...
Marti Michell is sharing how to cut the blocks with her Templates, too.
YEA! There is a Facebook group HERE.

A New Kids Class -Possibilities

My Finishing Kids class didn't happen and nobody signed up for the Rubies and Diamonds class.
so it's back to the drawing/Design Boards.
Thinking of using some Charm Packs to make a Mini/Doll Quilt or something small this time.
I haven't received my NEW Pre-Cuts that I ordered yet.
I had this stack of Greens just sitting on my Cutting table.
 UMMMM What can they become?

Let's start with a Basic 5" square and cut a few of each fabric.

With a few stitched seams they can become---
9  Patches

This is my New Start!
Many Possibilities
I was just 'clearing' my Cutting table off and got distracted...

A few more Stars in a Time Warp got sewn while I was making 9-Patches

& my Corn and Tomatoes block got done too.
 It's Farm Girl Friday!
I have 2 more Blocks to cut and sew.
It's week 7 of the Farm Girl Vintage SAL.

Creative Sharing on Friday-June 5th

How many Places did I go to find the Perfect Cupcake tin?

How many do I NEED?

I had an older one - not VINTAGEY, here at home- So Boring!!!
These are cut from just a few of my Scraps I had in a bag.

Lori Holt shared how she keeps one next to her machine HERE

The last place I looked, I found the one I really was looking for...
 This one- VINTAGE!!!

I had to make mine PURPLE!
I used a Mini Clothespin to hold my Strips together.

My Mini Mat and Travel Iron are Handy to have on my TV Tray.
I'm ready for #FarmGirlFriday now.

Go HERE to see the Blocks we are making this week.

While I have my 30's fabrics out I can cut blocks for this Quilt too.
Laurie has included the Block pieces sizes for Rotary cutting of the Blocks.
Hot off the Presses!

Design Wall Monday- 5-25-2015

I'm late in getting my DWM post up today.
On my Wall are all of my Farm Girl Vintage SAL Blocks so far.
I need to make a few more of the blocks in the 12" size.

I found the Layer cake I bought when I Pre-ordered my Farm Girl Vintage book
By Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet Blog

It has 10" squares in the 3 colorways of the Flower Patch fabrics.
I'm ready to cut into these this week.

We are making the Canning Jars and the Chicken Foot Blocks
This is my kind of Canning!

I made a early AM run to the store to buy Sugar, Lemon Juice and Pectin.
(early for me is 7:30am- Bi-Mart wasn't even open)
Safeway had a coupon in my Newspaper 5# for $1.99.
Not a bad price.

DH is making JAM from last year's Strawberry harvest.
 I have quite the deal.
YES, I am Spoiled!!!
He grows them.
I pick, clean and freeze them then HE makes the JAM!

By the time I got back he had 3 batches already made.

We made our Yearly Pilgrimage up to decorate the graves on Saturday.
Flags and flowers to Remember them.
Happy Memorial Day

Creative Goodness Friday- It's a Linky Day!!!

It's Strawberry Season!
I had just a few in my 1st picking so PIE was on my Mind.

I haven't always had good luck in making the filling.
It worked this time so I have to share.
I got this recipe from a friend 30+ years ago.

Strawberry Pie
1 Graham Cracker Crust
3 TBL Cornstarch
1 Cup Sugar
 1 cup Water
1 cup Mashed Strawberries + enough Whole Strawberries to fill the Crust.

Mix the Sugar and Cornstarch in a 2 qt saucepan, add the Water and cook until thickened.
Add the Mashed Strawberries and cook until it is desired thickness.
[This time I added a squeeze of Fresh Lemon juice]. Cool.
Pour over strawberries in the Pie Crust. Chill 1 1/2 hours in fridge.
Serve with fresh Whipping cream.

I did get a few Blocks made this week in the Quilt Zone!
My LUS Block of the Week was a fun one to measure the Templates and Rotary cut.
C-5 Crosstitch
I really need those NEW rulers from Creative Grids that make measuring 1/8's easier.

I made 2 Stars in a Time Warp with my "In the Beginning" Fabrics.
It's week 19- Serpentine Stripes like the one on the Left.
I am sharing some of the Striped fabric with my Swap Partner from the Civil War Swap.
Here is Her Quilt, Made & Quilted by Me last week.

It arrived quicker than I anticipated.
She Blogged about it HERE.

Last night I got my Farm Girl Friday Blocks made just in time for week 4
Baking Day and Butter Churn
Today I get to make the Canning Season Block.

Click HERE to join the FUN.

These Grandkids came to Visit with their MOM.
We went to lunch and came home to make Dessert.
Rice Krispies with M & M's
How do you get 4 kids to help?  Just ASK!
It helps that I told them they were making them for Grandpa!
The oldest measured the Rice Krispies & opened the M & M's
The 2nd girl helped the other two count the marshmallows.
The littlest one snitched one of the BIG Marshmallows, Who could resist that?
I stirred it all together and put it in the pan.  We read a little while until it was time to eat them.
It was nice to have them come.

Design Wall Monday 5-11-15

This past week I was busy stitching for some "May for ME" time!
There was a lot of other things going on as well...

I got my Week 2 blocks done for the #farmgirlfriday SAL HERE
Farm Girl Vintage Baby Chick Blocks and Autumn Star
The chicks were SEW fun to make I couldn't just make one.

2 Loyal Union Sampler Blocks were added to the SIDEBAR EQ pic.
I cheated and used the square in the middle for the G-8 Block.
The instructions called for Paper Piecing, you know I find any way to get out of doing THAT!
Check out the Points!!!

On my Portable Design Wall I have 12 Stars in a Time Warp.

I spent an evening Cutting and putting fabrics together.
I have more that I can cut in the 2nd bin of Civil War fabrics.
I've had to re-start on my CW Doll Quilt SWAP Design.
Wait and see what I have come up with...

Mother's day was Good this year.  More in a later posting.

Wednesday- May for Me!

Part of my "May for ME"
May 2015 for ME

Is spending fun times with my grandsons who live in town.
My 4 year old grandson helped me choose colors and pin this block so I could sew it
while I watched him on Tuesday.
my 12" Apron Strings Block for the Farm Girl Vintage Friday's Instagram SAL

& Browsing Blog land for the Quiltmaker 100 Blocks Blog tour. HERE
I see some of the New Designers and visit their Blogs on this Blog tour.
It's a fun way to make some "ME" time each morning.

Just look at the Cover!  Which block will you be making next?
I wonder which Block is Bonnie Hunter's.
Could it be one on the cover?
We will have to go to Quiltville.com to find out.

Today I get to go and watch back to back Baseball games!
That's a ME activity too.  This Grandma LOVES Baseball
I remember spending our Saturdays at the baseball park in Pasco.
Walla Walla Sweets
Pretty soon my hometown Baseball team will start playing.
I have already bought my tickets for Opening Day!
