New Finishes for 2022 Walla Walla Quilt Festival

It's Quilt Festival Time!!!
I'm excited to go and sit with Quilty Friends welcoming Quilters to the Festival
It's been 3 years since the Festival was held.
It got cancelled last year again.

I went to Utah for "Garden of Quilts" instead.
I am missing some fun in Utah this weekend for sure.
I know Deonn is there!
I caught this picture with her as she was leaving the parking lot.
Jenny Doan with her Girls, Melissa Corry, Cindy Cloward, Kris and all the Girlfriends,
and many others.

My Friend Wendy is at Sylvia's in sunny California this weekend.

These are the Quilts that were quilted and
entered in the Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival.

So only 3 years a UFO at home.

"Crayons"
Blocks won from Walla Walla Valley Quilt Guild
It's a UFO from 2008
When I first started Blogging.
14 years!

Tomorrow is National Sew and Jelly Roll Day
It's National Sewing Month
In 2018 I got this Jelly roll from Walla Walla Sew Vac & Spas for a Contest.

I used a few select colors for this Quilt.
I love all the Polka dots.
I think I have another idea of something to sew this year with the rest of it.

It is sew fun to finally Quilt.
My Quilty Time since I got home has been less than I want.
We're so glad we went when we did.

Next weekend we get to see our
Mormon Trail Center Senior Missionaries
Who served with us through that crazy year 2020
and Covid closing everything down.

A Blog Walk down Memory Lane - 2011 McCall's Design Star Contest

It came up in my Facebook Memories.
Today 11 Years ago I was notified that I was a Top 10 Finalist.

2011 was a year of starts and finishes for the McCall's Design Star Contest.
I watched the process of Natalia Bonner's Mom, Kathleen in 2010
It started in May 2011

Entry Challenge
"Roses for Roma"
I made this Quilt for my Sister.
Using Fabrics from our Mother's STASH.
The Pattern is original from Lynn and I.
Sew Fun to fussy-Cut the Roses.
Quilted with Sweetheart Panto.

Challenge # 1
"Be-Ribboned Asterisk"
We were given 10 MODA Fat Quarters to make a Quilt
We could add 1 other fabric.
Inspired by Floor Tile at a Quilt Shop in Baker, Oregon
Quilted by Natalia Bonner 'Piece and Quilt'

Challenge #2
Using 2 Blocks chosen by McCall's
Shoo-Fly and Arrowhead
I used the Arrowhead Blocks in the center,
Shoofly for the inner Border and
more Shoo-fly blocks around.
I used Shoo-fly for the the final Border too.
I named this one...
"Shoo-Fly, Don't Bother Me"

My Friend Marlene and I made the local Newspaper in August

Challenge #3
My Quilt that Sings
Challenge: use lyrics from a well recognized song to be inspired,
let it represent you as a designer.
"How Much is that Doggie In the Window"
Dedicated to my childhood Puppy, Curly.
3-D 'Dog Bones' in the Corners and Prairie Points to finish the edge.
Quilted on a Borrowed Bernina from Stash.
I quilted in the ditch and did meander in the border.
Long story Short-
My desire for a NEW Machine, cause the one I was using didn't do what I wanted.
Entered in the Walla Walla Fair and got a Blue Ribbon.

The Challenge Quilts did NOT have to be Quilted.
I sent this one to be Quilted by Natalia.
I got it back in December after the Contest was over.
See how Happy I was to get it back?

2011 was an eventful Year!
Enriched by my Quilting Swaps, Contest Entries, Newfo's, Leaders/enders,
Mysteries and Designing Quilts in EQ.

Getting Published in McCall's Magazine didn't happen.
But, Our Pictures and Bio's and Challenge Quilts are there.

Thanks for Reading and Commenting.
I missed my Blog-O-Versary
Next week I'll figure out a Giveaway and Post.

Ready Set Quilt Festival Time Coming

I took the last Quilt off 'Betsy' last night and
tried to find the best Blue for it.
Blues are so hard to match.
Made a Quilt Shop run just before closing.
No luck finding the fabric I used for the Border.
The light blue was my first attempt...
Nope, not enough strips to go around.
The Shadow Play was found in a small tote.
Hope I don't need it for THAT project.
It is an older Dye lot.
The Jenny Iron is an overkill on that wool mat.

This was the Wild Backing I found in the STASH.

Binding #2 stitched while watching TV.
My favorite part of the process.
Label in the Corner.
Thanks so much Melissa-Happy Quilting.
'On The Go' is Done in less that 3 years.
I first Blogged it September 9th 2019.

3 Quilts and a Challenge Block, ready to deliver.

Upside-down picture, oops 😬

It's a rest day for Betsy, going to the Temple.

Monday - Older Flimsy - Ready to Quilt

This posting is kind of a Throw back Post.
Going through to find all those TBQ (To be Quilted)
I came across this one.

I met Tula Pink in July 2012

In 2016 I started her City Sampler
100 Blocks in 100 Days
I had the blocks all done in the 100 days, sewing ahead for when I wasn't at home.
Posting on Instagram for each day.

This Flimsy picture was taken in 2017

In 2019
A 3rd Border was added and it has been waiting to be Quilted.
I looked for the backing I thought I had.
When I find it it will go on "Betsy".
It's not my Oldest UFO, but I need a new quilt to put on the Bed upstairs.
My Local Quilt stores are closed for Labor Day!

But first... The final Quilt I need to turn in this coming weekend is ready.
It has relaxed all weekend on "Betsy" and since I have the house to myself and DUP was Postponed...
It's a ME Day in the basement.

Happy National Sewing Month

September as National Sewing Month is the recognition of a creative form
of self-expression that we celebrate in September, but enjoy all year.

Walla Walla Fair - Free Day

Because we are Old and the rest of the week is already booked.

We went to see the exhibits at the Fair on Wednesday, the FREE Day.

The Quilts were nicely displayed. I didn't enter any!
Got a TEXT from a friend who said she noticed my name wasn't there on any Quilts.
Maybe Next year.

We went to see Humphrey's PIGS, then got our Dippy Dogs.
Hand Dipped and Deep Fried goodness, Fair Food.
It was less than and hour spent there.
TOO HOT!
I did the Quilts at the Fair for 5 years
2013-2017
When they said I couldn't enter my own Department, I Quit!

It's a Fri YAY!
I've spent the morning catching up on my YouTube Videos.
Had to re-watch Eleanor Burns Bed Turning from 2013.
Jenny's Friday Tutorial was fun with Corrine Wells Star Gazer quilt.

Now it's almost time to go to TriCities again.
Paul is napping after his walk. I might need a nap too.
I have a Quilt to finish putting on Betsy.
I finally decided which Quilt to enter for my 3rd Quilt in the Walla Walla Quilt Festival.
All done Entering last night before midnight.

I'm still waiting for the guesses on How Old is my Oldest UFO??
there might be a prize...

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

WOW - Wednesday

Today I ask my fellow Bloggers to guess what they think my oldest UFO is??

Last night I quilted one from 2008
That's a 14 year old UFO.
It's got the binding on and is ready to stitch on our way to the Temple Thursday.
Final reveal picture will beat the quilt Festival, if I enter it.

Do  any of you remember this one that I found in 2016??
Circa 2004
I never did do the Seminole Border.
Should I just quilt it and be done??

I know there are older ones somewhere downstairs.
I can't find my UFO List that I compiled.
So, I guess I'll have to make a new list for 2021-2022 NewFO's, TBQ's and Blocks to be set.

I'm still trying to decide what Quilts to enter in the WallaWalla Quilt Festival.
September 1st is the deadline to enter.
I am cutting it very close.

Monday Morning Ta Da

I learned a new word from Janet O.
Never heard of such an oddly spelled word that means beauty. Have you??
"pulchritude"
I laid out all the Ruby Jubilee Blocks before putting it away til QM November/ December issue arrives.
Definitely NOT the final layout!
I counted and listed them by name.
Made a list and checked it twice.
There is one more block in part 4 to make.  Opps!
The block that I had to fix after posting last Wednesday needs a duplicate.
See the dark chain block near the bottom.
It's not a hard block, 12". Plus I  can use a fabric that I have not used much in the other Blocks.

If hubby will let me sew a bit this morning.
He's asking if I want to help plant the Tulips and Mums I brought home the other day.
Ah, Not really!

Gotta share this picture that I took that reminded me of President Johnson in Omaha.
See the huge 'Elephant Ear plant'??
President bought a few of these bulbs and planted them right in the middle of Sister Johnsons flower bed where they took over.
Had to send it to her for a memory.

See these plaques?
Two of them are the ones that were stolen at the Winter Quarters Pioneer Cemetery.
I posted the Angel's on the gates by mistake.
I am correcting the error.
Sad that someone took these, but glad it wasn't the ones I thought they were.

Mondays have become my rest days, after a busy week.
And the coming week, I'm going to need it!
We have some reason to be in Tri-Cities
Wednesday-Saturday.
3 Temple days and 2 Funerals = 5 trips
We will see if we go to all that is planned.

Wednesday is Free Day at the
Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days.
I didn't enter anything for the 1st time,
in a very long time.
Nothing that I really want to go see.
The Brothers Osbourne aren't a favorite.

Hope it's a good week!

Today would have been my middle Brother's
#80 Birthday!
Picture taken when we went to Arizona to visit.
He was so proud of that Orange Tree!
Miss him so much!!!

WOW-Wednesday

What I'm Working on...
Still playing in the Purples!!
Here's  part 3 DONE!

These Peppermint Schnapps blocks are only 6"

The next 2 pictures are Part 4

I made a 2nd Spoolin' Around block, bottom left. Oops, I forgot to take another picture.
And I see a turned 4 patch in that block on the right.
My 16 patch blocks aren't all the same.
Just using all the Purple Stash!💜

I tallied and wrote down how many blocks I have made so far, I have 13 left to make for Part 5.
They are all cut out, ready to sew today.
Then I'll have  106 Blocks.
Sizes are 12" 10", 8" , 6" and 2"x4" flying geese

The Reveal comes in the
 November/December QM issue.

Sew Happy with all that I have accomplished
this week on this project.

Next up... 2 Baby Boy quilts.
One is a 2 year old so his will be bigger, maybe.
I'm using a Missouri Star Tutorial.
Maybe it will be ready to be shared next Week.

It's Monday, Making Day

I'm slept all night without coughing and getting up multiple times.
I think I have hit the end of this sick time.
I never want to catch it again!

On Saturday night I had energy to cut out some blocks for my Mystery with
Quiltmaker "Ruby Jubilee"

I hadn't touched it since early May. I have 2 more parts to catch up.
I loved playing in my Purple Stash with the Shadow Play that I finally ordered from MSQC.
I love sewing on my Purple Bernina.
I wish I had taken it with me to Omaha along with my Embriodery Machine.

There are a Bunch of flying Geese to make.
Lots of lines to draw on the back for making 4 at a time.
I love my Sandpaper board that my Quilt Buddy Lynn gave me.

Today I will fix the center of that double Pinwheel Block and finish the basket Blocks.
Maybe I can start on the Flying Geese.

There are many other projects calling to me.
I NEED something finished to put in the Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival.
Will it be matching Baby Boy Quilts, my 2022 Quiltville Mystery- Rhodedenron Trail,
2022 Moda Block Challenge, Blue Birds, or Grassy Creek.
I also have a project with my Mission Siggies that is percolating.
That would be nice to have done for our Reunion in September in St George.
