New Slideshow

I made a Slide show of the Walla Walla Quilt Festival. The pictures I took with my camera and some are sideways, sorry! There are a bunch, so turn up the music and ENJOY! I made my bed and put my newest quilt that hung at the show on it. FALL is here and I need to find another one to go on with it. Christmas Quilt update... One quilted, One pinned-ready to quilt, 2 ready to sash and sandwich, 1 that needs a border then sandwiched. That leaves another one that will be fun to make, I'll make two of them- one for me! 93 days until Christmas! Minus the Sundays I don't sew= 58 days until Dec 1st!!! Not to confuse, I've enjoyed making all of these. I just wish I could finish them quicker.

Colby's "Super Hero" Birthday

Colby Turned 4 this past week. His Party was Saturday evening. The theme was Super Heroes. Colby dressed as "Batman". Joe dressed as "Penguin". Many others came dressed such as Spiderman, Super Crowther Boys, Super Girl, Wonder woman, I saw a cat woman and a pink- caped princess. The hit of the party was when Colby's Grandpa Fish and Uncle Matt made their appearance as the "Joker" and the "Riddler"! The "Joker" scared them a little until they saw he had skittles to share with them.

Kori enjoyed videoing the whole event. She said that Joe dreamt up new ideas to make the party fun. There was "Bat Cave" in their back bedroom with the Bat signal on the wall. I didn't get to go in there and see it. Maybe you'll see pictures on Joe and Kori's Blog of that one. When I arrived he was blowing up black balloons. There was a "Batman" Pinata that had strings on the bottom to pull open the secret hatch. The Birthday boy was the lucky one to release the right string after everyone else had a turn. Kori made some "Colby" Cupcakes in Vanilla and Chocolate. They were YUMMY and looked as good as Storebought. There was Ice Cream cake for the adults, (we also got cupcakes). Christen took a picture of "Super Quiltin' Gramma", I'll have to add that one later. I was busy holding my two youngest grandchildren. Thanks for sharing them with me. They didn't fuss and were as happy to have me hold them as I was to get the privilege, since I live so far away.

Downtown WW

In our lovely downtown Walla Walla some of the local "artists" have been turned loose on some very big Onions. While taking quilts around last Monday morning I took pictures of them. If you haven't been to Walla Walla and think there is nothing to see here besides wineries, think again. I found one more, but don't have a picture of it. They are all on our Main street. I am headed to the Quilt Festival today and then to Colby's Super Heroes party. I'm dressing as "Super Quiltin' Gramma!

Quilting with a Kid....HAHAHA

I had another Quilt finish, and just in time for the Quilt Show here in Walla Walla. This one was a Week-end Mystery on Quiltaholics. It took me a week just to get the top done. The pattern has 9 different blocks in it - all 6", plus 7 borders, one pieced. I only did 6 of the 7 borders. I found that it takes a lot of 6" Blocks to make a queen-sized quilt! And that I don't really like to make LOG CABIN BLOCKS. I used all fabrics from my STASH, except for the Backing. I stitched in the ditch and around the stars, with my trusty Bernina 140 patchwork Edition and open-toed foot. It worked up very nice, even if I say so! I had to corral my DH (Dear Hubby) to help me get it sandwiched and pinned to quilt at our church where there are 8' tables. It took 3 of the tables to lay the quilt out. He even thanked me for letting him help! It fits nicely on my Queen-sized bed and I'm very pleased to finish this one before the next Patriotic holiday! My DGS (dear grandson) Colby, had to lay on it just as I was trying to get a picture. No worries about me being Queen of UFO's on Stashbusters, I'm on a roll...

Grandpa is asleep with the Dear grandson until his parents come to collect him this evening. Yea for Grandpa! It has been fun to have him come and stay. Now the others can come again, but not all at once...this grandma can't do that anymore.

As for Christmas quilts I have 4 of the 6 ready to sandwich and quilt. I'm practicing on my UFO's to get in the Free-Motion groove.

Shop Hop 2008

My Quilt Buddy and I took a very long road trip Thursday. It was her Birthday too. We left Walla Walla around 7:30am and drove to Ritzville, the first shop. It was housed in a Liquor store, (bottles in back of us).

They had a Bassinet full of scraps and gallon sized Ziplock bags to stuff for $5. That was fun to snatch a few new scraps... like we don't generate enough ourselves...

Next we drove to Moses Lake. Lynn saw this 30's quilt in the window and had to buy the book. We asked how long it takes to drive to Yakima from Moses Lake and figured we may as well do the whole LOOP. The drive from Moses Lake to Yakima was a little scary, it took us uphill towards Ellensburg. I saw Mt Ranier and Mt Adams getting closer. We found the Sunbonnet Sue Shop and Bernina shops in Yakima, then went to Hancock Fabrics where we had pre-ordered some black and white bolts of KONA solid fabric. They had put it out on the shelf so had to measure and we didn't get a full bolt of the black afterall. There was a Chinese Eatery nearby so we had dinner and were off to the Prosser shop. I had to call and get directions when we thought we had passed the exit. I was glad we had the Country Register newspaper with us. It had the shops phone numbers and addresses. We only had 2 more shops after that in Tri-cities. We arrived at the last shop 30 minutes before they closed. We didn't have much more energy so we just looked around and turned in our passports for the Grand Prize drawing of $350 to use in the Quilt shops. Do we look relieved in the last photo? 7 shops plus two other fabric stores in one day and 500 miles, WHEW! We arrived safely home just after 8pm. Mary & Lynn

Borders!

Consensus of the Quilt Guild is that my Round Robin needs another border to finish it. They say to use the fushia and pretty blue somehow. I'm going to the drawing board, but it will be next week after my quilt show entries are entered. And I'm back from the Shop Hop. Ritsville and Moses Lake Thursday-Yakima and Tri-cities Friday. Today I have to get a quilt sandwiched so I can quilt on it. I am excited to have Colby come for his very first overnight stay. He will be 4 next week and they find out if he will have a baby Brother or Sister. Hurricane Hanna & IKE have passed by Jeff in Cuba. He was in Lockdown and sleeping on a cot some nights, but he does respond to e-mails. I'm glad to know he's OK. He is on our prayers! Summer is over and FALL is here. Time to get out the long pants and sweaters again.

Migrating Round Robin

My Migrating Round Robin came home to roost today. I'm going to post it here as well. I have finally figured out how to make the slideshow with 'my' quilts on it. Thanks Tina! I have to say thank you to Sharon,Cindy, Holly, Sue & Sarah from my Online WASIQ Quilt guild. I think it was well travelled to go to all the places it did, including Western Washington and Montana. Mine didn't get to go to Arizona like the others. Maybe I should send it on to her to finish, HAHAHAHA. I had lots of fun adding to the Round Robins that came to me. I even learned how to do a mitred border and got to use up some of my stash of fabrics. Thanks to my quilt buddy. Now she is helping me finish all of the Christmas Quilts. We played in her stash and now she has a Dissappearing 9-patch in Christmas fabrics ready to quilt too. Enjoy the Slideshow... you might see a quilt that is in and/or coming to YOUR house! I can't wait until December to show them...

Countdown to Christmas

It's September and I see that I don't have much time to finish all that I want to make for Christmas unless I keep track. I have 3 of the 6 Christmas blankets ready to be quilted as of today. Two more need to be assembled with sashing and borders. I'm getting excited to give these to the kids. They have been almost a year in the making. The tradition will be that the youngest gets to sleep with the Christmas Quilt on December 1st. Each night thereafter until December 24th it rotates through the rest of the family youngest to oldest. On Christmas Eve it is left under the tree so SANTA can take a nap after he eats his Milk and Cookies, of course... This should be fun for everyone!
