Farm Girl Friday- August Goals

I will get my blocks made so I can post them.

 I wanted to make an accounting of the BLOCKS made in July.

July Goals

1- Quilt 2 of my Flimsies! I quilted 4 quilts (3 were minis)

2- Make more Moth in the Window Blocks Nope

3- Put final Borders on Striped Star & WWVQG A-Z - Nope

4- Finish making the blocks for TQS A-Z - Nope, but I made a couple more...

That Row by Row quilt took over all my quilting time this month.

If I hadn't had to travel so far to get them this year I could have spent more time in the basement.

The Grandma time and 4-H quilt camp helped occupy my spare time too.

I have to spend a little time getting my Quilts registered for the Fair & the Walla Walla Valley Quilt Show.

FAIR DEADLINE is August 5th!

It's goal setting time for AUGUST now...

1- Get my FAIR Theme Quilt made with the Wonky Letters

2- Make a WWVQS Challenge Quilt- "Outside my Window"

3- Keep making my BOW, BOM and QAL blocks

4- Quilt a "Bonnie Hunter" Quilt for September Quilt festival

It's Wednesday and time for another Step in the Painted Quilt Mystery,

she said it may not be until a couple weeks before the next step.

 I had some fun with certain fabrics in these 5.

A Quilter's House, Moda marble Swirl, Robyn Pandolph

Downton Abby (Mary & the Dowager),  Some Modern from one of the Stash Quilt I bound.

I haven't put my Scrappy Houses together yet.

It's been a Fun Summer so far with Grandchildren coming and going.

We had 6 of them at our Ward BBQ on the 24th of July

Sadly this is the only Picture I took that evening.

O teamed up with J and E teamed up with his brother.

Grandpa took them for a walk after I fed them Pancakes with G-pa's Strawberry Jam

DD#2 boys come almost every other week to play at G-mas.

They love to be helpers Harvesting the Flowerbed garden

They were interested in eating any of it. Especially the Beets 

after I told them what it would do to them, LOL (Red Urine)

Or does that only happen to Grandma.

Design Wall Monday- It's a Prize Winning Quilt -July 27, 2015

This quilt was started after my Road Trip to Portland, Or and Vancouver, Wa with DD#2 July 6th.

I collected my Row in Hermiston, Or on July 9th 

I had to get the 2 Rows from Tri-Cities next on the 10th.

As winners were announced at shops in the Tri-cites, I realized I needed to get some more ROWS.

 I had a lot of Fish, and Paper pieced row patterns.

July 16th, I drove myself to get Rows in Pomeroy, Wa & Lewiston, Idaho.

I would have gone on to Orofino and Colfax to get their License Plates but

 I couldn't get there before closing.

I really had enough rows to make my quilt.  

BUT- I still wanted a few more rows for variety.

DD#1 was willing to drive me further north and west to Prosser &Yakima, Wa  July 17.

I bought 2 of the Row Kits and came home to sew them up.

You have seen them laying on the floor as I tried to get the best placement of the rows.

They are so nice to enable my Quilting habit! 

I got the center together and found the Border Fabric at STASH, used my STASH CASH to buy it.

Wednesday, after going to 4-H Quilt Camp 3 days, I decided it was 'get-it-done' time!

I got the last 2 borders on and stitched around the Applique parts- that took about 4 hours.

Took a "Sweets baseball Game" break and came home to finish it.

I sewed the backing and loaded it on "BETSY".

I had planned to load it sideways but instead I had to make more passes.

I chose the 'Bubbles and Vines' pattern on my Quilt-so-Clever and started quilting.

6 rows of quilting across the space,  I noticed that my backing was too short.

I needed to take it off and add some fabric to make it long enough. UGGGG

I thought, well...I am almost done and if I re-load it- bottom at the top it will be easier to quilt.

Yep it was, should have flipped the pattern so it wasn't up-side-down.  Oh well!

8 Rows  at 10" per pass with 4 repeats of the pattern.

This pattern worked perfectly, spacing was the best I've ever done!

Bubbles & Vines

It was taken off the frame around 3:30 am and I made and attached the binding .

DH had a Training in Tri-cities Thursday, I thought I could deliver it while he was busy there---

 alas, after quilting and staying up all night, it wasn't to be...

 Between naps Thursday, I got the binding stitched down and signed the label.

Whew!!! Finished and Hung outside.

I hadn't seen any pictures including the Shop Owner in them. Paul was there to hold the Quilt up.

The wind was blowing so Marilyn and I had to hold the quilt sides & I had to hold my hair.

DH says "It's hard being married to the Winner"

Behind every Great Quilter- is a tall guy holding up the quilt. LOL

I had to post a picture where the full quilt showed.

No place to hold it up inside the shop.

So we took these pictures outside by her sign and pretty flowers.

There isn't a wall space to hang it in The Sewing Basket, so I got to bring it home.

We stopped by Quiltmania so I could show them my finished quilt.

I had promised them to bring my quilt to them, but somebody beat me there.

We got home and I had to finally get a good Nap under it!

Advanced Quilt Camp- DONE "Creative Goodness"

I had to wait to post until I had the pictures from the Quilt Camp

Today was the last day- 

Bindings were attached, sewn down by machine and labels made ready to sew on by hand.

Jan E from Quilt Guild taught them to make the 

"Double Slice Layer Cake"

It was quick and easy piecing. 

Each quilt reflected the personality of the Quilter.

The kids ranged in age from 12-17

There were enough volunteers for each girl to have a helper.

These quilts will be on display at our Walla Walla County Fair- Labor Day week-end.

I spent Thursday sleeping as much as I could after my ALL Night Quilting on my 

2015 Row by Row Quilt.  I'll have that on my Design Wall Monday.

It will be delivered to a shop where there isn't a winner yet on Saturday.

Still Distracted--- Grateful I have the Choice

My BOM's and BOW's have been sadly neglected.

This Row by Row Experience has taken all of my spare time...

It is now just waiting for the Quilting.

My Quilting/Blog friend Julie H and I are in a friendly race, of sorts. 

I teased her and asked who will finish first?

We all have distractions in our quilting lives.

I'm grateful I have the choice to make each day a fun quilting day or a day to take a NAP.

Some days the NEWS gets to us and we have to turn it off and just STITCH!!!

I have been helping at 4-H Quilt Camp this week.

I was only going to help one day...

It's addicting to be a helper. 

We got the center of the quilt webbed and assembled yesterday.

 Today it's on to the borders.

Jan, who is the Quilt Camp teacher, brought me 2 more patterns from her travels up north.

I'm so glad I can go again- even though that time could be spent, at home-

 Quilting on my Row x Row.

I got this Quilty RAQ sent to me from Alabama.

A blog reader and NEW blogging friend saw that I wasn't getting my Stars in a Time Warp done.

I needed some of the CW fabrics that were featured.  My stash of CW is limited.

Meanwhile- a mountain nearby is on FIRE!

Please Pray they get this contained.  I was informed last night 3 homes are gone and many are evacuated and living in tents on the WWCC grounds.

This is 9 miles away from my town.

I see smoke looking in the other direction too.  

It's delaying my road trip to try and deliver the RxR.

That's why I have time to be a helper.

Design Wall/Floor Monday- 7-20-15 Row by Row again

I went to see my DD#1 and she took me to get a few more rows.

She drove so her kids could ride along

 We had to get a picture at the 1st stop in Prosser.  

DD#1 said on Facebook- "This quilt shop in Prosser has SO MUCH fabric and things to offer"

Chuckar Cherries was a nice diversion with plenty of yummy Samples.

I got 3 more Plates and bought 2 kits

The other kit was WAY TOO MUCH $$$.

Note to Row by Row Quilt shops.  

Don't put all your fabric into KITS and over charge for them.

It would be nice if they all used the Row by Row fabric in their kits.

I plan to make a separate quilt with all of my plates I've collected the past 2 years.

Saturday was the day to put my Row by Row Quilt Together.

First I put together the 2 Kits I bought- they were easy.

Every time I put it out on the floor I have changed it.

Moving rows around until I got things where I liked them.

11 Rows from Washington, Oregon and Idaho

The toilets are there, just had to change the way I sewed them together.

I used the tan swirls that looked like sand to me to sash the rows.

It seems a bit dark to me.  Maybe a different blue from my STASH will work.

This will get finished this week. After I help with a 4-H Quilt Camp M-W.

 I will have to make a trip back to Pomeroy, Lewiston or Prosser to turn it in

I wanted to make my quilt big enough for a bed this year.

Friday Sharing-Row by Row quilt

I've been collecting more Rows to make my "Row by Row Quilt.

I have 9 Rows done.

Someone else beat me to take her quilt into Quiltmania this week.

I guess I don't have to be in a real Hurry, now.

Thursday I drove to Lewiston, Idaho with a stop in Pomeroy, WA to get a couple rows.

I had too many Appliqued ones and needed some Pieced ones.

Friday I finished those two rows.

My rows represent the Pacific Northwest states-

Washington Idaho and Oregon

The Quiltmania row may or may not be included.

I'm not too fond of the 'Toilets'.

I did see a row with goldfish jumping out of snail's trail waves from another State.
I think most of the rows are very Creative.  I'm enjoying the collecting.

Jo & Kelli 'Bonnie Hunter' Show and Tell Challenge

Last October Jo & Kelli posted a Challenge to make progress on a Bonnie Hunter UFO.

I made some Progress on my Bow Tie L/E quilt from 2011

It's a Flimsy.  So is my 2014 Grand Illusion Mystery.

They have issued a New Challenge and today is the day to Link up with our UFO we will work on.

They are calling it  "Show and Tell Challenge

#1- I have this #2 Celtic Solstice that I started.

I think it would be a good one to make into "Cathedral Stars"

I'd like to get the Star Blocks made for the Cathedral Stars.  

The Alternate block would be fun to make too. Lots of 4-patch units.

I started sewing  Bonnie's "Moth in the Window" Blocks from her Addicted to Scraps column in QM.

I put it down as one of July Goals to make more blocks for it.

I can cut out some blocks from more of Paul's Shirts,  

He's got a LOT that I need to take apart De-Bone. 

It's time to hit the Thrift shops again to get him some new Short Sleeve Shirts for work.

I could use it for L/E on the #1 project.

The easy thing to do would be to Quilt either my Bow Tie L/E quilt or the Grand Illusion.

Design Wall/Floor Monday July 13, 2015

My Design Walls are full of WIP's so I have to resort to my Design Floor again.

Pat Sloan calls this block

I didn't get it made on the 1st day of the Month.

Here are all of the Blocks on the Floor.

 I went to pick up the ROWS in Tri-cities this week.

Quiltmania hasn't had a WINNER, yet- so I have a chance to pick up their prizes.
I wonder if their ROW of Toilets could be the reason...?

That is IF I can get my quilt figured out and quilted in time.

The top Row is a variation of their Paper-Pieced Pattern. I used a striped fabric instead of doing PP!!

I would like to get a couple more patterns for Rows,

 but the shops close to me are closed on Monday! UGGGG

 A few hours of pressing yielded a stacked pile, on a TV Tray-  ready to cut up!

 I have considered making the Tumblers.  

I have some leftovers from the DWR that I could add in, they are already the correct size.

Then I looked at the Painted Quilt's Blog this weekend.

HERE is my NEW Project that could use up some more of my Scraps.

Who doesn't want to build a  little house that is quick to make?

July is HOT, HOT, HOT!

It's been a long time since the Heat arrived.  We have had over 13 of 14 days of over 100 degree Temps here in SE Washington setting records.

The tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans are producing well and loving the heat.

What is the best place to be?  

In my Basement...but I have had to leave the coolness and take to the road

 in my car with the AC blasting.

I called my Hairdresser, Niece and she had an opening yesterday.  

I love how she gives me the 'Royal Treatment"

I picked up the 2 Kits from the Tri-Cities Quilt Shops

Now I can start without having to pick fabrics.

2015 Row by Row is happening June 21 through September 8th.

Are you collecting patterns???

You can collect Rows and pick up kits and the fabric License Plates.

I might get a quilt made before next week- who knows.

Quiltmania hasn't had a winner, YET!

I did do some stitching on my 2014 A-Z Block of the Month.

It's the 40th Anniversary of the Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show

I had plans to go but as things go somedays- my plans changed.

There are fun classes and I see on social media that Tula Pink and Sarah Fielke are teaching there.

Row by Rowing... 4th of July prizes

Monday was ROAD TRIP DAY for my DD#2 and I this week.

Mt Hood with a Cloud cap driving toward Portland.

We had to get our obligatory Selfie-(groupie)

No kids, just us!

The main purpose was to Deliver the Sailboats and Anchor quilt to her Nephew in Oregon.

She helped me get a few of the Row by Row patterns along the way.
She is not afraid of Portland/Vancouver traffic.

Many of the shops were CLOSED on Monday or I would have gotten more.
I wasn't happy that we stopped at a few that were closed.
Wasted time wasn't in the plan.

Just for FUN in Vancouver had last years row up too.

Modern Domestic was near EE Schencks.

Their row is called 'Glass Half Full'

Pioneer Quilts had a Wool Kit for the fish.
I'm not going to start collecting Wool, so I said "No thanks!"

At Craft Warehouse, they only had patterns in with their Kit that included the die cut
WA State outline and fish to add to their row. No License plates there.

And the last stop at Fabric Depot got me up to the #8 row pattern.
They had 3 different rows & Row by Row Pins.

We stopped at EE Schencks so I could show her the warehouse.

 I got my Navy Thread, a few more of the size I needed of quilt batting, 2 Quilt Books and
 2 short bolts of Flannel. (no pic)

It was getting dark as we got back to Walla Walla. The Sweets game was almost over.

 
The package from Homespun Hannah was here waiting when I got home.
