WOW- Wednesday October 28, 2015

Betsy has a House call tomorrow so the end for my topper making will end soon, I HOPE!

I have some moving and cleaning to do to be ready for the Tech guy to come diagnose the trouble.

Crossing my fingers that it isn't the Main Computer board.

I made the 1930's Farmer's Wife Block that was announced yesterday.

"Granny"

This is a 1/2 Block to be placed on the top and bottom of the rows.

I got to do a bit of re-cutting and 'froggin' on this one. 

Had to get those squares where they were supposed to be.

My "Tucker" block- 

Step 2 is sewn together and I am waiting for the next step.

It's fun to see these extra 1-1/2" squares and hsts used up.

I love my new Design Board that I bought HERE.
My Alphabitties are fun to spell the name of the blocks with.
I bought a couple sets for the ones with double letters.

Design Wall Monday- October 26, 2015

The 30's Farmer's wife had 3 blocks to make last week.

All made easy with my Marti Michell templates!
I toyed with the Old Maid block and decided to sew it with a Light zig zag and dark background.

I will position them like the diagram in the book. 

Seeing them on Point helps me see how they will be oriented in the finished quilt.

Here are all 10 that have been made so far.

89 blocks left to make, 1/10th of the quilt is done.

Amazing to imagine.

This week's inspiring story that went with a Block for me was "Katherine"

It tells of starting out as newlyweds on the farm, 

Working hard and having babies.  

That was my life, going on 39 years ago.

We only stayed on the Family Farm for 10 years of that time.

A quote from the Book tells, 

"Sometimes the way was so thorny we needed Ironclad shoes, then again there were Roses."

They got me at 1-1/2" squares.
A mini quilt in 4 steps that I can make without cutting into new fabrics.

I looked again at Pam's and the 4 outer squares in the star need to be dark squares.
And the star points need to be reversed too.

2015 Blogger's Quilt Festival- FALL- Original Design

 Because I am a lover of the color - PURPLE ...

This Kona Bay fabric spoke to me and I bought the WHOLE bolt.

I love my Purple Splash Rotary Cutter, too.

I saw a Butterfly and thought, I can make that with my Marti Michell templates 

and eliminate some seams.

 The Theme for our Local Quilt Festival was "Outside my Window"

I needed a Quilt made 36" square so I put the Butterflies into an Attic Window Block.

In my DREAM WORLD, I would see Purple Butterflies outside my Window every day!

Then I found the "Fresh Lilac" fabric from Maywood at EE Schencks. 

OOOO, My heart went  Pitter Patter!!!

I bought the Border fabric (right) to use on the border of my Challenge quilt.

The other Fresh Lilacs fabrics I got at the Festival and on the Shop Hop.

Matching the corners was fun and so I mitered them.

I couldn't quilt it on my "Betsy" so I pin-basted it and quilted it on "HELGA"

I added the curly antennae for each Butterfly.

I used Blue Tape to mark the lines on the border to quilt.

2015 Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival "When Bonnie Calls---"

Way back on the last day of June Bonnie Hunter sent out the "Call for Quilts" HERE

I have had a quilt hang in the Quiltmaker Gallery before.

 I was so happy to send a Picture to Bonnie and tell her "PICK ME, Please!!"

 I started making these in April. Thinking they would be this year's L/E.

The pattern was in the May/June issue of Quiltmaker in

 "Addicted to Scraps" column by Bonnie Hunter.

 

Above are pictures of my Scrap tote and my 1st block laid out.

I was having fun stitching up my blocks between other blocks I was stitching.

It wasn't long before I had 11 blocks made.

I even made some at the Retreat in June
Here is one that I made then. 

Much to my Horror, I came home and made a few more just like this.

Can you tell where I went WRONG???

  

 The "froggin' tool was put to good use, QUICK! 

Then I laid them out on my Floor and auditioned sashings.

Light or Blue?  

I couldn't decide so I used both

I liked how it looked with the borders done with Light on one side and the Blue on the other side.

Here is the Flimsy - finished on the 3rd of July.

I e-mailed this photo to Bonnie and got her reply.  

YES! She wanted me to send it to Golden.

  On the 4th of July, I loaded it on "Betsy" and got it all quilted on the 4th!
I used the "Feather's Around" Quilting design.

Growing up plain Jane Mary Brown went to town, I take it as a compliment.
I asked her if I needed better penmanship on my label, :)
She said she just couldn't read it.  I need a new Pigma Pen!

Wednesday- Back to "Real Life"

It's been a week of Goodbyes.

Monday was the day for us to Honor my dear Mother -by- Love.

 She was loved by all who knew her.

This is the picture I took from my seat at the Burial.

The 5 Children who honored her to the end of her earthly journey.

I was full of gratitude for those who traveled so far to come and be with us.

My husband counted 9 of his Israelsen, Nash, & Neeley Cousins who made the trip.

 All 6 of our children made the trip, flying and driving across the country.

Sorry my camera didn't get the lighting right.

The curtain is BLUE.

I didn't get all the pictures I really wanted.

And not all of the pictures I did take, will make the BLOG.

These 6 Handsome Grandsons were the Pallbearers.

I was asked to make the Boutonnieres for them again. 

I had a bit of trouble finding the White carnations.

I went to every Store in town and of course I found them at the LAST place I went.

I put the 'wrong' color Carnations in with the leftover gypsophila "Baby's Breath"

and added the only Yellow Rose bud that was growing in our garden.

This arrangement was displayed with Pictures in the chapel.

I didn't take pictures of the full displays I did. 

The Memorial was similar to Grandpas, just a few changes.

All 5 of the children and spouses had an assigned part.

I was the Chorister again and we sang the same Hymns.

The Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren sang

"I Feel my Savior's Love"

accompanied by their Aunt Penney and my 10 year old Granddaughter on her violin.

The mental pictures will remain in my heart that was full to overflowing.

I am honored to be a part of this 'Eternal' family.

My granddaughter wanted to play while we ate our lunch also.

What a sweet thing to do.  She did eat a bit later.

She has improved so much since we heard her play on New Years.

Some goodbyes are harder than others...

Janessa took this picture of Jeffery and I after we had breakfast at the Maple Counter- Tuesday am.

Who knows when he will make the day and half drive to come home again.

It's Wednesday and my stitching is calling...

Design Wall Monday and 2 Link-up October 19,2015

It's been a long and eventful week making plans to say goodbye to my dear Mother-by-Love.

We have had a lot of time to ourselves to ponder.

The Family is almost all here now and we look forward to having everyone HOME for the Memorial.

Because most of the events are in  and around the Tri-cities, 

my children who usually stay with us, are staying with the Tri-City families.  

My stitching was very limited but by Saturday I felt I needed to get some stitches in.

  

13 Belle &  24 Coral

I used the Marti Michell Templates and even did the 'y" seams on "Belle' with ease.

Here is how they will look on-point.

The stories that go with these blocks have influenced my fabric choices a little.

 The first week I started just reading the book page by page, then I started really reading

 as each block was introduced.

The thing that sticks out the most is to "Take time to live your life".

  It's the little things that matter.

Family time is important.

The story for "Coral" reminds me of the "White Elephant" we used to have with the Crowther family.  It wasn't always on Christmas.  Most years we get together on New Year's Day.

We could choose a gift for a little more than their limit of 5 cents.

It is a day for Games and Potluck meal and Family Pictures.

"Gift, Fun Fellowship" is the headline for the CORAL Block from Christmas 1935.

I think I'll hand quilt my Country Roads.

I showed it on DWM last week and thought it really needed a small border added to the outside.

I have the Q-Frame to hold the edges together so I can hand quilt.

It was a Fun SAL and I'm liking the way it looks.

It will be a nice addition to my Wallsof Mini Quilt as I enter the Quilt Zone.

Design Wall Monday- October 12, 2015

Happy Columbus Day!

I am cutting and getting ready to sew an additional block for my Farm Girl Vintage quilt.

The alphabitties are invaluable in

 keeping the parts in order.

I thought I needed this one to go with the Mixing Bowl that was in the original quilt. 

 It will take the place of the Teapot.

Lori has a few other fun blocks that are sold as PDF downloadable patterns over at FatQuarterShop.

The best part is the instructions are included for 6" and 12" finished blocks.

Country Roads is a Flimsy.

  

Now the choice is whether or not to Hand Quilt it,

 or just do some straight line quilting and call it DONE!

I'm sure Lori will have a Linky Party pretty soon so I want it ready for that.

Friday Sharing- 1930's Farmer's Wife Blocks

 It's been a different kind of week.  I have gotten a little bit of stitching done between trips to TriCities to see my Dear MIL.

DH is up there again today to be with her.

The Blocks for the Farmer's wife have been coming almost Daily it seems.

I cut them out while I watch TV and stitch them up the following day.

I added the button to the Top of my Sidebar, just in case you want to join the mailing list.

I had to make 2 versions of the Caroline.

I cut too many of the HST's from too many different fabrics.  

My Through the Hourglass Class had just 1 person signed up so we postponed it until next week.

I have some special tricks to make the blocks with partial seams.

I made a block for my Blue and white this week.

It is 13 pages so I got it printed in B & W at Staples.

So I'm not done with my Farm Girls blocks completely, I guess.

They are just too cute!

I have a good start on my Block making for October.

1- Make Blocks for Guild and BOW.

2- Finish the Vacation Time setting blocks- Flimsy

3- Make some more Moth in the Window Blocks

4- Sew the #2 Grand Illusion Blocks into a Flimsy 

5-work on Christmas, (can't show that but I'm started on it.)

I need to make more Moth in the Window Blocks from DH's Shirts.

I haven't worked on these too much since last Christmas Eve.

I have so MANY Bonnie UFO's that could be worked on but I'll play with just these 2.

This one is still waiting to Be Quilted.

Design Wall Monday- October 5, 2015

NOT MUCH STITCHING going on this past week-end.  

I spent my time in my Jammies watching our 185th LDS Semi Annual Conference.

My Post this morning is late because I'm still deciding what to do with my Country Roads.

I didn't think I had enough of the lighter fabric to make all the setting Triangles.

So I was thinking of going with this...

YUCK!

I don't care for it at all!

So---I took the parts and cut what scraps I had left of the fabric chosen by my Blogging friends.

It took a bit of finagling but I got the pieces cut.

I can live with this!

For Week 1 of the 1930's Farmer's Wife we had 3 blocks to make.
