Wednesday - First day of FAIR

I have been getting Ready for a while and TODAY is the Day!

 We've been working and waiting for it.

This picture was taken while we were taking in the entries.

I couldn't do it without my helpers!

 Bed Turning happening at 11am, 2 pm and 6 pm

I have borrowed this quilt from Susan C.  It is from the 1880's.

It is older than the Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days.

I'm excited to show the Vintage and Antique Quilts.

I have received a few others from my Quilting friends. THANKS big time!!!

I hope to get a video of it to share.

I called and talked to the Newspaper and there will be an article in tomorrow's Paper about it.

I'll be busy with 3 Bed Turnings a day.  

I'm taking some handwork for the first day.

Design Wall Monday- August 29, 2016

Not much change on my Design Wall.  

I added a few of the City Sampler Blocks. 

Thankful I took time to make a few ahead so I could post them.

 

Today is #13

Busy days at the Fairgrounds this week and more to come this week.

This is a block from a quilt that was entered in the Fair.

I hadn't seen it done like this before.

I learned that it could be a Farmer's Daughter variation.

Notice the corner points are made with diamonds like a LeMoyne Star.

I still need to pack up my machine and projects to work on while sitting in my Department.

Wednesday will be here soon and the Names all need to be spelled correctly

 and placed on the entries according to the rules.

WOW - Wednesday - Secret Stitching - more Rows

My Secret Stitching continues - Binding being sewn down.

This needs to be in the UPS Tomorrow. 

All I need to do now is fill out the entry form and get it packed up.

Julie H from Idaho sent me some more Rows 

and a couple more plates from her area.

Now I have a BUNCH to make the License Plate quilt in my head.

I have a few days left in August to quilt my OMG.

Now that my Secret Stitching is done I can get it put on Betsy! 

I liked the "Windee" E2E Quilting pattern I got from Wasatch Quilting.

I got the Triangle one from when I quilted my Diamonds and Rubies.

Maybe I'll use it again.

It takes a bobbin per pass, but it gives great texture.

Hope you're having all the stitching time you desire.  

Kids are in School here.

Design Wall Monday - Tula Pink City Sampler - August 22, 2016

Last Wednesday I posted my desire to start these Blocks 

and here are the 1st weeks Blocks.

It's confusing with the Aussie Time Zone difference and their Posting schedule.

I started on Wednesday and made Blocks 1 and 2.

I guess I am ahead.

That means I maybe should skip a day and get on schedule??

There has been some "Secret Stitching going on as well.  

A rush Quilt is on Betsy!  It will be revealed in September.

It was a fun, Quick Quilt to make.

The Fair entries are due this week on Thursday.

I have to make my final choice of what I will put in.

DH and I worked on the Display for the Bed Turning.  

I'm getting so excited for it.

I got a Crib from DD#1 to use as a small quilt display.

 & I borrowed a cool wagon from DS #2.

Dogwood Blossoms - Vintage Quilt Acquistion

I found a real Treasure!

At the Tri-City Quilt Guild Meeting this week 2 quilts were shown that were for SALE.  

When I saw this one opened up --- they said the lady who owed them (Pat)

 was moving to a smaller place and needed to lessen her load.

The asking price was only $50 -I spoke up and said SOLD!

I don't usually buy Vintage or Antique quilts.

I like to just take Pictures of them and I DO admire them.

Only when the opportunity falls in my path and I have a real connection to it.

This one doesn't have any label or Story, I have to make a story for it..

I love the Dogwood in Walla Walla in the Spring.

This quilt will be a reminder of them for me.

I love that whoever made this KIT took the time to hand quilt it with crosshatching and Feathers.

Plus the scalloped edges- WOW

The binding is a bit frayed in places.

Pauls' Sister has my In-laws Wedding Quilt.

I posted about it HERE

I can hardly believe it's been 5 years since Pauls' Mom showed it to me.

I know when this one was made!

It has the whole Story documented.

I'm grateful for the Journals my Mother-by- Love has left us!

If you have a quilt that doesn't have a "Story".

Get with the people who know about it and document it.

Make a simple label with the 

information and attach it to the Quilt.

What am I working on?

I have so many things to get done for self imposed Deadlines and Quilt Show Deadlines.

I shouldn't, but I really want to start the 100 Blocks in 100 days with my Tula Pink fabrics. 

I've collected them since I met her back in 2012

I have her Book and it is even SIGNED!

 I know I shouldn't but It's the 2nd Day and I need to jump in...

They are very easy Blocks.  What's ONE Block a Day gonna hurt??

I can work on them at the Fair too, right?

This post is late today, Computer being finicky again!

Whatcha working on this HOT Wednesday?

Gonna be 100 degrees here in my town!

Design Wall Monday and Blog-o-versary - Monday August 15, 2016

I started Blogging in August of 2008.

It's my 8 years Blog-o-Versary

I wasn't working at Hancock Fabrics anymore so I really needed an outlet!

I've learned a lot about publishing my BLOG.

I have met quite a few fun Blogs and Bloggers along the Way.

I was at Quilt Guild Retreat in Boardman, Oregon

Here's a group shot of the ladies that came to sew all week-end.

Some, like me had to leave early and others came later.

39 total 

It was SEW much FUN!

I even got out to watch the Meteor Showers and saw a few shooting stars.

I sewed on a few different projects and Leader Enders, 

Plus I got to share some fun tips with a few quilters.

I love "Quilting by Committee"

Two tops are almost to the "Flimsy" stage.

This one needed 2 more blocks made.  

My fellow Quilters to the rescue with a different "Green"

& Thanks to Jessica working on the same project and using my same background fabric.

 I couldn't have done it without my friends.

I set this one based on "Bonnie's Dancing 9-Patch"

I call it Dancing Circles.

This one still needs two borders and one of those is pieced.

Farm Girl Vintage with a few changes.

I made a few more Blocks with the leftover Quarter Square triangles 

and 2 ladies made blocks for next month.

They played a different version of the Bobbin game.  

We passed the Bobbin necklace around.

 I used up 4 Bobbins. 

The Winner who had possession of the Bobbin at 9pm each night got a prize.

My Guild Buddy came with her Tiara on for our debut of my joining her in "Tiara Time"

I find that my Link-up days and my Giveaways draw the most comments.

So without further ado...

Fabric Shops and Family Fun

We made a quick trip last week-end to visit our Son and his family in Wyoming.

He has been called into the Bishopric as 2nd Counselor.

That meant his Father needed to ordain him a High Priest, 

so he could be set apart in his new calling.

I should have taken a family Picture- 

Brant Conducted Sacrament so he was a little busy. 

Tina and I both bought new Dresses for Sunday.

I hemmed hers for her and Brant's new White Temple Pants.

I used my Mother's Day Kohl's card from J & K family - THANKS!!!

These Cute kids came to wake me from my Sunday Nap.

Paul drove all the way - Over 1600 miles!

Many Miles over the Mountains and down in Valleys of Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming.

He even went above and beyond, out of the way and stopped for more Row by Row & license plates

I took picture of the Winning Quilts hanging in the shops.

At the Ontario shop I as given a little booklet that had directions and numbers for the Oregon and Idaho shops on our way.

At Nancy's Quilt in Nampa - I saw that the store owner was a "Call".
 I asked if they were related to Anson Call.
YEP, I found another 'cousin'

He had some good stories to share in the time we visited.

His Line comes through the 1st Wife "Mary Call".

I had to get a current Picture of The Star Valley Temple!

The Angel Moroni was recently placed.

My Wyoming family was there.

The Temple is across the street from a Bowling Alley. The kids Bowled for Free.

 Grandpa, B & T bowled 2 games.

I threw my back out last time I  tried to Bowl, so I  just cheered them on.

We decided to take a different route home and found this Temple under Construction.

Now we know where it is!
 We followed the Payette river around winding roads. there were rafters and Kayaks spotted.
Driving 70-80 MPH, it's hard to get a picture.

I'll leave you with this View as we climbed higher and higher. 6,000 ft +

Quilt Guild- August Fun

I can tell its August. 

 The Blocks are not coming as fast as when we started this Lotto for charity. 

 I forgot my Fat quarter again to enter the "lotto" part. BOO! 

I'll have to take an extra FQ next month.

SO...for the 8th Month there were 8 Blocks turned in.

1 Block from last month that will need some small borders added.

Congrats to Brenda, she won the FQ's,

 (I owe her one)

 There were a dew extra parts.  If I  cut some more blues and white squares. I can add to the number of blocks.

These are the same size as my 

Leader & Enders blocks.

I made a few more

 between the stitches  this week.

TOTAL = 26

I am still thinking that an alternate solid block with my Hourglass units would be a good setting. Similar to the Clown's Choice. 

Next Block to make

Easiest Block to make this year.

Straight seams and just a few corner seams to match.

           The Program for the evening was                          presented by Susan Crawford.

               She spoke of Vintage Quilts and
                 showed some from her collection.
          Many are in need of restoration
                      Repair and cleaning.

She is still in the process of 'dating' this
Hexagon Star.
What a great way to set them.
They were very tiny!!!!
The green background is all
tiny hexagons too.

I would love to have a bed turning at the Fair to share these...

Design Wall Monday on Tuesday - August 9, 2016

I left in a hurry on Friday and didn't get my DWM post pre-written as planned.

This was one of the last things I sewed before packing.

Today is the Final Day to Enter Quilts for the FAIR!

I want this one to be entered.

 I found a Sashing fabric while I was Scrap Stitching on Monday.

 Funny that I chose a fabric that I used for the Christmas Placemats.

See the Herringbone Check in this one DH is holding.

 I  made more 4 -patches and have a total of 160+

no picture. They are going into a yet to be determined setting.

I will make more at the Fair over Labor Day.
