A Great day Antiquing!!!

I went to Tri-cites on 'errands' today.  My DH's Parents have moved into an Assisted Living place and I wanted to go and see where it was and visit since I haven't seen them in a while.  They are doing well, and they even had room service while I was there.  The best part of their lunch was that they served Lemon Meringue Pie for dessert.  I asked the lunch girl, "How did you know?" She didn't of course but it made me feel good that they are being taken care of there.  Less worrying for a while.  It wasn't an easy decision for the Family, but it is a good thing. The parents chose this place themselves. 

 I took the time to visit some Antique shops in Downtown Kennewick before heading home. This cute 'toy' sewing machine was at the former ROXY Theater Antique shop. Cute but not what I am really looking for.

 I saw only this one Dresden Plate Quilt. It was heavy and it was tied.

 I asked where there might be more Antique shops in Downtown and was directed to go to the stop light and down 1st street. I walked inside the 1st Street Antique Shop and looked down low and saw some suitcase and machine looking things. There was a Bentwood "tombstone" machine there and in the far corner, hidden in the Black case...I saw it looked to be about the right size and turned over the tag. It said "SINGER FEATHERWEIGHT" and I said, SOLD!  He gave me a little off the asking price even without much haggling. He plugged it in and I checked to make sure the bobbin case was there.  It sounded good to me so I walked out with it and didn't even take anymore time to even look around.

The Quiltingrandma is a Happy Camper today!  She was made in Elizabethport, NJ around August 22, 1950. her serial Number starts with the AJ and that is what the Singer Dating website says HERE and HERE.  Wanna closer peek???

 She has all these attachments and even the owner's Manual.  The gold seal isn't the "centennial seal", but I'm just so happy to have found one that runs and was an OK price.  Happy Anniversary to me and Merry Christmas too!  I am so Happy.  I think I'll call her Lizzy! She's a Jersey Girl. That name is much better than Snookie.

2011-2012 Blogger's Block of the Month

 It's been a while since I posted about the Blogger's Block of the Month.  Each month since last September on the 25th we have been given a link with a new Tutorial to make a block.  This month is Block #13. The Tutorial comes from Sarah Feilke of Australia. It is a 'Star in a Star'.  I got my Blocks out and the directions for the two last blocks I needed to make and made them tonight.

 I have used scraps around my cutting table each month so mine aren't as Match-y Match-y as they could be. These are all 8" Blocks.  Block #11 is a Split Ohio Star from Victoria Findlay Wolfe of Bumble Beans.
Her Block assembly is not the same as in her directions. I made mine like her Block in Jackie's BOM. My Block #12 is made with the same fabrics as I used in my Shop Hop challenge this month. The green with the paisley is KAFFE.  The fabric used by Jackie in her blocks is all from Kaffe.  Block #12 came from Amy of Amy's Creative Side. She didn't give the block a 'name'.

I only need to make #13 and wait until October 25th to get more directions for setting the quilt together.

Antique Mall Finds

I took the opportunity to visit an Antique Mall in town last week that I'd never been to. I looked at all the booths and found so many old quilts.  Again my heart is breaking that the families of these quilt makers didn't keep them. This isn't even all of them I saw.  My phone died so this is all the pictures I could take. I left my real camera at home.

Seven Sisters

There were NO sewing machines. Lots of China, Dolls, linens, doilies, books and knick knacks.  I just had to share these quilts for Inspiration. I'm thinking I could alternate a solid block with my Bow ties.

Coming in October- Blockbase Sew-Along

BLOCKBASE is starting a Sew-Along.  This one we get to choose what size Blocks we make.  The Blockbase goes along with EQ and is wonderful for finding any type of block you want to make.  A collection of Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns, over 4300 block patterns.  Every two weeks the EQ Bloggers will choose a Block to make and have a Link up for the Show and Tell.  Sounds fun! Design Wall Monday- September 24, 2012

It's almost Celebration time!  I have sewn my LAST Pieced Farmer's Wife Block.  That mean's all of my September and October Blocks are DONE!

 It wasn't easy but I had a lot of alone time this week-end. I had finished sewing with one more blocks to make at the stroke of Midnight Saturday night.  I had the strips sewn for #83 but needed to cut them with my Kaleido-Ruler and finish that block this morning.

This is how the ruler looks, placed on the strip set.  The ruler even has the Corner Triangles marked on the opposite corner.  No extra template/ruler needed.  THANKS MARTI! It is well-marked and easy to use.

I sewed a couple more Paper-pieced blocks this week, too.  Lynn would be proud. My #94 Tall Pine Tree Block gave me a bit of extra trouble. See the photo to the left. A bit of un-sewing, removing the center strip (trunk) and stitching it onto the correct side and Voila' It's Done!

 Only 4 more of the dreaded PP blocks and I'll be completely finished with my Farmer's Wife Blocks.  It's the last week of September and I could have it to Flimsy before the end making my journey a full 9 months of sewing the Farmer's Wife Quilt.

I Remember Daddy!

Today. I remember my Daddy, it would have been his 99th birthday today.  I have tried over the years to keep his memory alive in the hearts of my Children.  Telling them about him and sharing stories from my childhood.  I had to scan in these photos today and post them to show his personality.

 My favorite Family Photo from the 1960's.  I'm wearing a dress that mom made for my Big Brother's wedding. About 1963.

 I think this picture was taken at my Uncle Don's home in Moses Lake. I remember the 'beanie' I took it to school in 3rd grade, that was in 1965.  Notice the "Flour sack" dresses my sister and I are wearing.

This Picture is typical Daddy.  He loved the Leisure suits and bought them in several colors.  Because my Dress was pink he wore this Pink jacket and Plaid pants.  It was 1976 and plaid was IN!  He brought my Mother to visit during Mother's Week at Rick's College. The picture is taken in our Dorm room, 4th Dorm, top of the HILL.   My Date, (Rich Hindman) ordered the Lei for me from Hawaii.  One of our FHE brothers was from Hawaii. My Dress is the one I wore when I was in Miss Moses Lake.  I added the sleeves to it for this dance. I'm also wearing a crocheted shawl my mother made. I still have the dress and the shawl.  I wish I still had Daddy's Suit.  For our Wedding Reception he wore a Lime green suit.  

I love and miss my Daddy today and every day since April of 1980.  It's been a long time, but I believe in Eternal Life and being reunited with my Family again after this life. Our Mortal bodies may die, but our Spirit lives Eternally.

These Blocks make 99 Blocks made in almost 9 months.  I had fun fussy cutting the lambs out for the Paper-pieced block Peaceful Hours (top left). Yesterday was the Farmer's Wife Group and I cut out the other 3 and stitched them up today.  I'll be cutting more out to finish after I quilt the Shop Hop Challenge Quilt.  It is ready to go on the table to be quilted by "Helga"!
I have 4 more to make for September, 3 more for October and 5 more Paper-pieced Blocks and I'll be DONE.

Dinner Date with my 8 year old DGS!

Yesterday was the day to take Colby to Dinner.  He turned 8 and I wanted to Celebrate it like I've done with his 4 older cousins. My Mother in law always said that the one on one time with her Grandchildren was the best of times.   I got up early to finish his Birthday Pillowcase. 

 I think he liked it.  He ran and put it on a pillow in his room right after this Picture.

 He had just gotten home from school.  The sports fabric was perfect for this grandson!

Colby chose to go to "Red Robin".  

They have Spaghetti that is Colby-safe without the Cheese on top. He also had the Steak Fries and two "Freckled Lemonades".  

This toothless grin says it all!

He ate and ate. 

He's a Growing boy. I was so glad I could get to know him a little better.

I learned all about how the Fantasy Football Team is going for him and his dad.  

After we ate, we went to the Church Bookstore to buy him a Journal and have his name put on it.

The last stop was at the Temple for a picture of him by the Sign.

We walked all the way around the Temple.  When he is 12 he can go inside, I told him.   

It was a wonderful day to go and spend extra time with him.

Thanks to his great parents for letting Grandma have her day.

Design Wall Monday- September 17, 2012

Shop Hop Challenge Fabric for Sew n Vac in Walla Walla...Fabric by Kaffe AGAIN!  I ran out of the 1/2 yard of fabric I purchased for the Challenge so had to go buy a second packet. While there I asked why the deadline for this was during Quilt Show Week-end and 2 weeks before the Week of Shop Hop?? Since NO ONE had turned any in by close of day Saturday, we all have an extra week. YES!  I can finish this one and not stress. It's only 18" or so. I want to take my time quilting it. This is just a Peek for now.  I will REVEAL it in all it's glory during Shop Hop week the end of the month.

As for progress on the Farmer's Wife...There was no time for finishing it with all of my Volunteer time at the Quilt Show and attending the Demos when I wasn't at the Front Welcome Table. It was a Great Show!

I played at Lynn's last Thursday before going to set up at the Quilt Festival.  We cut out some Kits and I tried to put one together for a Sample. The Pattern for this one is called "Easy Does It".  I found out the hard way---Read the Instructions!  I guess I just don't DO Random!!! I've had to re-arrange the rows again since I brought them home.

It was a Great Quilt Festival! Next year it will be the end of the month of September. That gives me a couple extra weeks to make something "Quilt Show Worthy". I found a new pattern while I was at the Festival, that I want to make and it just might take me all year to do it right.  I haven't heard who won the new Pfaff yet. I forgot to ask if I needed to back up my car to pick it up...LOL
