Design Wall Monday - August 31, 2015

Last day to finish up my August Goals
The Quiltville 2014 Mystery is on "Betsy" ready to quilt in my spare time this week, LOL
Grand Illusion
I have a couple of last minute projects to get ready for my Demos at the FAIR.
Fabric for Samples are ready.
Can you guess what I'll be making?
Hint: April Issue of American Patchwork and Quilting.

Remember these letters???
They are on my Narrow Portable Design Wall today.
I want to sew them together for a Banner to display at Needlework Dept 54.
Just a few more letters to make. N L W R K
I decided that the banner not include the Year's Theme so it can be used each year.

Taking in the Entries, Judging and Setting up is Almost DONE.
I just need to take my Machine and projects down to the Pavilion sometime before Wednesday.
See you back here then with LOTS of pictures of FUN Quilts and Needlework displays at the Fair.

Meanwhile you can go HERE and see what others are doing  this week.

WOW for 8-26-15

What I'm working on Wednesday?

I couldn't let the Salt Water Taffy Blocks Beat me!
Sometimes you have to just try and make it work the way the Directions tell you to do it.
Pat Sloan knows Best!
I cut 3" squares of the White and Red and drew lines on the back. Sewed 1/4" away from the line both ways and trimmed them to size while I watched QuiltCAM last night.
This was to make sure the Directional fabric would be the correct way on each block.
I was careful to lay them out like I wanted them and the made sewing them easier.

SUCCESS!!
Month 1-8 DONE and ready for September 1st!!!

That is one off my Checklist.

I still have some other things to work on before the Fair starts.
It might be a Long Night...

I received word that my Row By Row has been accepted into the Juried Show.
at Northwest Quilting EXPO at the end of September in Portland.
This is only the 2nd Juried show I have ever entered.
That means it won't be shown at our County Fair OR at the Walla Walla Quilt Festival.
So I really Need to work on another UFO to complete to show at the Fair and at the Quilt Show.

I'm working on the Samples and 1 new pattern for my New Classes coming up for
They have asked me to repeat the 2 classes I didn't get to do.
So if you want to learn some new Tricks on Cutting for Directional fabrics & making Partial seams  my Classes for Rubies & Diamonds and Through the Hourglass are right for you.

The Class Schedule is coming out SOON!

Design Wall Monday- August 24, 2015

I've run out of room on my portable Design Wall with these Farm Girl Blocks.
Time to clear off the other Wall that has my Siggy Blocks still on it.
Week 17
Pinwheels                             Postage Stamp

Finding odd Tiny squares for the Postage stamp was fun!
I got up Saturday with the intentions of getting my "Vacation Time" BOM Quilt caught up.
Link is HERE for the Free Pattern by Pat Sloan.

Here is the top and bottom Inner Borders done.
I was so focused on the directional fabric that I got myself all messed up.
If I need the Salt Water Taffy blocks to go the other direction - I have a bunch already made...LOL
After I saw my error I just left the Quilt Zone.  Overthinking it wasn't helping.
I'll have something else to make while sitting at the Fair, right?

It was time to get myself ready for our ride to Burbank for a Wedding Reception. Then on to our 2 year old Granddaughter's Birthday and back to Walla Walla for another Wedding Reception.
WHEW ---Busy Night!

Sunday, we went to Richland after our Sacrament Meeting to see our 10 Year old Granddaughter
play her Violyn on her Birthday at her Ward.
There is a YouTube Video HERE of her rehearsal.
Hearing it just gave me the "Tingles"!
She has learned so much since she played her Violyn for us on New Year's Day.

It's the last week of AUGUST---Pre-Fair stuff happening
Entry Day is Thursday, Judging on Friday and Setting up Friday Night and Saturday.
There will be another Grandchild Birthday between all the FAIR stuff.
Lots of Birthdays and Anniversaries the end of August...

I found a New site for Free Block patterns.  HERE
I'll be trying it out for next month's Guild Block Lotto.
I'll have to get my quilt on Betsy this week.
Deadline to Register for the Walla Walla Quilt Festival is the day before the Fair Starts.

With this one I am HALF-WAY to the Finish. 60 more to sew.
The updated EQ Layout in on the sidebar.

What a Weekend!!!

Who knew 40 years later that we would be back in good old Moses Lake for the week-end.
Many Photos on my Phone, Facebook and Instagram.
Here are just 2 with me and my Girlfriends from WAY Back!!!

Debby Me and Nida                                                   Me Dena and Nida
Dena called us the Three Musketeers, I don't remember that ... We had to go to her house to see her.
It's a Peeve of mine that some of the "Locals" who still live there didn't bother to come either night.

Not a stitch was made but I did do something Quilt related Friday and Saturday.
Much thanks for my Utah Classmate for being my enabler.
Friday before my Class Reunion we went to the Quilt Shop in my HOMETOWN.
I had to get the Plate and Row from there.
 How'd they know I was a Princess??
I thought I was a QUEEN!

I found my Toile at the cutest shop in Ephrata!
I also picked up my 2015 Row by Row pattern and License plate.
Last year my Son picked up my Row by Row so I didn't get to see this shop.
Soooo glad I got to see it this time.
AND they had the License fabric and Civil War that I was looking for!!!!
Great news coming up end of the month for them---
They will be one of the featured Shops in the Quilt Sampler Magazine. See that little PIN?
I also learned that Marlene of Kissed Quilts is the Featured Quilter for
The Harvest Festival in Grand Coulee September 18-20.

Congrats to Her, that's a Busy Weekend!!!
I have at least 4 places I could be plus it's my DD#2 Birthday.

I have a LOT to get ready for the Fair and Quilt Festival between now and then.
My Design Wall will have just a few sneak peek pictures until the BIG reveals.

Looking for a TOILE

My Stars in a Time Warp are getting more interesting... This week we are looking for Toile.
I thought I had some, Maybe NOT CW though.
I'll have to look in my travels for some.
Time for another Road Trip before SUMMER is over!!!!
HERE is what they look like and more Info on how they were made in the way back 'olden days'.

It's week 31 already.
I made a bunch more so I could use my newest Civil War fabrics.
Amelia's in Kennewick has some...just saying

How many more will I make?  Who knows.
I am having fun learning about the Civil War era fabrics.
AND these stars are addicting.
Using my Easy Angle ruler for the Star points sure saves fabric.

About the Giveaway I posted Yesterday...HERE
I forgot to say when the drawing would happen.
How about  August 20th. That gives one more week to Comment.
Leave your Comment on that Blog Post, Please.
I got some BATIK FQ's in the mail from EE SCHENCK for giving feedback
on their new updated website HERE
These Fat Quarters will be added to the Winning package.

Thanks for reading and especially for all your kind comments!
Edited:  GIVEAWAY ENDS August 20th
This Giveaway is CLOSED!
Tuesday night was My Monthly Guild night.

I got my #2 Lotto Block made while watching 2 grandsons.
This one is a bit different than it'is supposed to be.
I will keep this one and turn in the other one.
There were 9 Blocks turned in and 2 that were brought last month.
I left them in the bag I took to Guild in July.
Congrats to Darlene D who won the Blocks.

Our Guild President and Vice President with Ice Cream cake to
CELEBRATE our reaching 100 Members!
They even put our LOGO on the top.
Yummy stuff!

The Theme for the Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival next month is "Outside my Window"
Making a quilt for the Challenge is on my mind this week.
I found a fun Block on the Quilter's Cache HERE
I have made these before with a more narrow window... we shall see how I like them bigger with the fussy cut square smaller.
Balloons outside my Window with Green and cream or
Patriotic flags waving with a Wood grain print and tan

Here is the Demo Board.
TIP this month-- make sure when you cut the Miters you have all the fabric face-up!
Turn the template over to cut the Brown.
The rest is easy stitching to the Dot at 1/4"
I'm thinking a quilt made with a bunch of these blocks would be fun.
The Constant fabric is the Brown Woodgrain
I am requesting that they make the four parts and not sew them together.

Design Wall Monday- August 10, 2015

It was a fun but LONG week without any stitching...
Did you miss me Posting Wednesday and Friday???
I was a little bit busy with these Boys.
& I have been moving and shuffling stuff around in the Quilt Zone!
No pictures- it's a BIGGER Mess than when I started.
I was glad to get up Saturday morning without an alarm and sew what I wanted to sew.
I chose to play with my Farm Girl Friday Blocks.
I was behind from last week.
I fussy cut the windows for my Old Red Barn with some of the words in the
Modern Minis fabric I got from the Fat Quarter Shop.

     Out to Pasture                              Patchwork Pumpkin
I don't have much Orange in my fabric stash, so some of these prints are more golden and I fussy cut an orange flower from a greenish print.
I am now all caught up and even made my Penny Pig Block.
He needs his curly tail to be embroidered on.

This week the Fat Quarter Shop announced another SAL for the 1930's Farmer's Wife HERE.
It starts September 28th.
I already have the book,  I bought it in June and Posted it HERE.
Not that I need yet another project to use my 30's collection, but you know how I am...
Marti Michell is sharing how to cut the blocks with her Templates, too.
YEA! There is a Facebook group HERE.

Design Wall Monday-

These Fat Quarters are talking to me today so they are being posted here to give me inspiration for what they want to become.
They are the FQ's I WON from the Sewing Basket for my Row by Row..
Saturday was a great Mail day for me!
I got a Cute Thank you from the 4-H girls leader.
It had pictures of each girl with her quilt.  I liked the making of that quilt so I just might have to cut me some 10"squares from a bunch of Fat Quarters and get stitching.

Then again I have a few more Row patterns that are calling to me now.
Thanks to Janet O for the cute Row Patterns

I am picking some up from Brandy P later this AM from her trip Rowing to Montana.

As you can tell I really am not focused this week.
I have a few grandson's that will be playing with me all week.
Whitman Basketball Camp is starting and while they are there I will be playing with THIS---
I found myself a 503!!!
I wasn't even looking for it.
I was headed to buy some non-dairy Ice Cream for my Grandson
Just happened to see a Yard sale sign and drove by when I saw the Tan case...
I HAD TO TURN AROUND!!!
The Daughter's name is Sue and she said it was her mother's and well-maintained.
I should have asked her mother's name...
it came with all of these attachments
Buttonholer and Cams.
The tag said "Make Offer" so I paid her $20
Some re-arranging and cleaning of the Quilt Zone is needed to make a place for her.
My cutting table over-floweth- time to clear the space.
So should I Stitch- or clean ???
