Time to Get it DONE Again & NewFo Report

As of TOMORROW---It's NOVEMBER!
 The Clocks get turned back an hour this week-end and I'm going to enjoy that extra  hour of sleep!
These were my October 2013 Goals

1- Parcheezi- to flimsy- [almost there] Trimmed and ready to sew to flimsy - Ready for Border 

2- Midnight Flight Blocks, sew 3 more blocks- Flimsy - Ready for Borders

3- Nabby's Dowry - Flimsy - Ready for Border

4- Sept NewFO- ALOHA LUS - need to sew 10 more blocks Flimsy - need 3 more blocks

5- SBS Star Swap - Need's final border-Flimsy (I can take this one to my visit with Jennifer too.) -Not Done

6- Thank Your Lucky Stars- Flimsy- Not Done

So that makes 3 quilts- that got sewn together and are ready for the Final Borders.  

I'm not beating myself up about those other 3 quilts that didn't get to FLIMSY. 

I will find a DAY at Thread and Bolts to use the BIG cutting table for squaring the quilts ready for borders.

AND I kept up with my Loyal Union Sampler Block of the Week, too.

TOTAL= 13 Blue and White Blocks- only 108 left to make

Almost all of the 35 LUS- ALOHA blocks Finished- 3 LEFT to make.

My NOVEMBER Goals are:

 1- Borders on Midnight Flight

 2- Make Pieced Sashings for ALOHA LUS

 3- Block of the Week - Loyal Union Sampler

 I can use the sashing pieces as Leader/Enders for the Midnight Flight Border units.

Weepy Wednesday This Week

A-7 Beacon Lights

I only needed to make my Blue and White version of the Block of the Week today.  

Not much sewing happening. around here.  

It's a 'WEEPY" Wednesday!

On Sunday, there was a Good-bye gathering for the Turners.

On Tuesday, I went to lunch with my friend Wendy and a few others to wish her well on their new adventure.  They are Leaving Walla Walla for the Chicago Area and a new Job. 

Her husband was serving in the Bishopric when we moved here and their daughter was a good friend to our two Seniors.  He was the first to come, shake our hands and welcome us into the Ward.  I'll miss them more than they know. Today she came to visit at my house for the last time.

 I have tried to oblige her and not be a cry baby.  But today I lost it!  She left me with a special book and when I read what she wrote inside of it, I just couldn't hold back the tears.

She's a good friend and I've enjoyed all the things we have done in the past 9 years.

I won't post the pictures of the process...LOL.

I enjoyed serving in the Primary with her as the President.

"Faithful"

I wanted to write this post separate from my Design Wall Monday so I could link up to Lori HERE.

I took time to try and get mine quilted on my DSM this past week-end.  I really see why I don't like pushing a quilt under the needle when I try to FMQ (Free Motion Quilt)  on my DSM. (Domestic Sewing Machine).
I just have to trim it, bind it and put a hanging sleeve on it.

Faithful is the Quilt-Along I started with an extra block from my original Sylvia's Bridal Sampler. The Block is E-6 "Jack in the Pulpit".   I have been a FAITHFUL follower of all of Jennifer's Elm Creek Quilters Novels and her Quilt Pattern books. I have traveled many miles just to see her and have my books signed. 

I have to credit her for MAKING me stretch my skills in the making of my SBS Sampler. My Quilt Buddy HELPED a LOT with that too.  I was fun to use up some of the Bonus Triangle squares on this little quilt.  Thanks to Lori at HUMBLE QUILTS!

I chose this Backing fabric because it hides all the stitching so well.  It's a Purple RED ROOSTER print from Jennifer Chaiverini's Cross Country Quilter's fabric line.  I bought all that was left on the bolt at my LQS.

Design Wall Monday- October 28, 2013

The Month is flying by and I'm trying to get Christmas gifts made so they can be delivered before the BIG day and save shipping. You know that THOSE Projects won't show up on HERE until after the Holidays. Of course that cuts into my SEWING/QUILTING time.

As Promised I have made my choice for which Bonnie Hunter project I will try and finish before the new Mystery starts on Black Friday.

Midnight Flight is the easy choice since it hasn't been put away totally to become a UFO for next year.

That UFO BH Project from 2005 just had WAY TOO MANY parts left to sew.

I am taking the comments into consideration on what color to use here for my Borders.

Remember I am NOT using the Borders like Bonnie did.  

It will be fun to use the border pieces that I'm making as leader/enders for my LUS Blocks.

Some liked the Pink and some liked the blue so I'm using BOTH!  

Watch and see what "materializes" in the next 4 weeks. This will be my MAIN November GOAL.

AND I am in the process of choosing my colors for the new Celtic Solstice Bonnie Hunter Mystery.

There were/are a lot of Easy Street in my same colorway in Blogland so...

 I am NOT making another one with her same colors.

On the left are the colors similar to hers from my Ace Hardware store (we don't have a Lowe's).

And on the right are the Blue and green, like hers, but with two alternate colors.

I just can't see me using the BRIGHTEST Yellow and Oranges in my Quilt.

Solstice to me should be a Peaceful time. Even if the days get shorter.

Definition: The solstice occurs twice in each circuit of the earth around the sun. A circuit of the sun is how we define a year, so there are two solstices a year, winter and summer. The winter solstice is in late December and the summer solstice in late June in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemispheres, the solstices are reversed. The word solstice is formed from two Latin words; one for sun sol and one for stand sistere. The summer solstice is when the sun appears to be at its greatest and the day is at its longest. The winter solstice is when there is the least amount of sun. The other two seasons, fall and spring, are marked by the equinoxes when day and night are roughly equal.

I picked up some of the Eternal Swirl by Moda (as Bonnie HUnter calls it) in Green to use in my Mystery and had to buy the Purple leaves from Jennifer Chiaverini's Cross Country Quilters line to back my "FAITHFUL" Mini quilt.  That Link-up will be later today in a separate post.  Using the Color catcher and pre-washing I am always amazed at the offending fabric.  I think that GREEN wins this time.

Jo & Nell's Bonnie Challenge

OK, When two or more of my Blogging Buddies have the same Posting, (well different, but the same title) I have to take NOTE!   I missed the Jo and Nell Challenge on Wednesday HERE.

So How many Bonnie Projects Do I have in Process?

I already have a few of  them in My Goals and on my UFO Parade Tab at the top of my BLOG.

Oops there are more than I thought I had...

The oldest one being my Double Delight- Mystery from 2005-
way back before I was a True Bonnie FAN!

This one hasn't seen the Light for a LONG, LONG Time...

Looks like I didn't even print off all the pages.

I saw a finished one HERE and I really want to finish this one.

Then there is Pineapple Blossom that I did with the BLOCK Lotto BLOG- They are addictive.  

I couldn't get them to turn right kind of like my Log Cabins but I have enough made for a small quilt top.

3rd is my Leader/ Ender Bow Ties from 2011

 and they are in a pile ready for the sashing, when I find that darn fabric again.

Because I finally MET her in March at QM Block Party ---what did I start??  MIDNIGHT FLIGHT!

88 Pieces in each 12" Block-- times 30 Blocks= A LOT!!!

CRAZY, but not as Crazy as the ladies who took ALL 3 days of her classes.

 This is the one on my October Goals and I DID get the last 3 Blocks I'm making finished and the center is sewn together- FINALLY

I can happily say I have TWO of Bonnie Patterns that are completed projects.

 Katie's Choice- from her Sister's Choice Pattern  for one of the two new Grand-daughters born this year. 

Notice, I didn't make the whole quilt...

 And My Easy, Busy Street is missing a few blocks too.  BUT, it's DONE!!!

2013 Crayon Adventure

TA DA at my DD#1 home the night before I turned it in for the Challenge.

My favorite way to label- a 4" square folded diagonally and sewn into the binding. 

 "Stashbusters" style.

When I showed it to my family, they noticed the LOL in the borders.

I call it Be-Ribboned because of the multicolored Ribbon border

This quilt started out with these fabrics.

A colorful print Border fabric with fat quarters in colors that are in the print.

Dots are perfect for a Baby!

 I loved cutting it out with the Baby Go Cutter that I received as one of the Sponsor's gifts from the 2011 McCall's Quilt Design Star. I changed the flowers to use the GO Baby.

It went together very quick, having made this Original Pattern before for that Contest.

Started June 17 and completed July 26th (The day after this baby girl joined our family)

I tried to emulate the same quilting that the Original quilt had on it-
 Thanks to Natalia Bonner of Piece n Quilt in UTAH!

It wasn't easy but I'm happy with how it turned out in the end.

My favorite part ...

 Seeing my Cute New Grand-daughter lying on it,

(I made her Blessing Dress, too)

 almost as good as seeing the back with the quilting in the sunlight.

 I have started making it again and expanding it - maybe for another cute girl...

Making Minis & Blog-O-Versary Giveaway Winner

While I'm trying not the share my cold, I have been working on the Minis from the QAL (Quilt-Alongs) and SAL (Sew-Alongs) that I did recently to get them into my TBQ (To Be Quilted) category.  Two of them were on the DWM (Design Wall Monday) posting this past Monday.

The first 2 are to the point of "flimsy" as far as I'm going to go with them, at least.

I 'frogged' all of the outer borders and re-trimmed"Purple Pumpkin Seeds" so that it would be straight.

I may add one more small purple border before I quilt it.  I don't have anymore of the lighter fabric.

Here is "FAITHFUL" ready for quilting.  I still have plenty of these tiny bonus Triangles in a ziplock baggie.

 I even found another baggie of the larger ones to play with next time there is a SAL like this.

It was another night of 'froggin'.  After I watched Bonnie on Quilt Cam I went to take the picture of 

the center part of my Nabby's Dowry, Opps again!!!

 I know it really doesn't matter what order the blocks are in.  Only I would know, or another Nabby's Dowry maker... I switched the center row so I had to remove the two seams and get it right before I add the final border. It will get a good pressing before I sew it on. The light blue sashing is made from strips I cut when I was starting my Midnight Flight.  I wasn't sure what fabrics I would use for the Blues. I hope there are some 1.5" strips needed for the next Bonnie Mystery... I cut the setting squares big, just in case.

We are sharing these with Pam Buda by December 1st and I wanted mine RIGHT!

There is a few yards of this pretty blue and I like how it looks for the final border.

Seems I'm liking the Blue/Brown quilt combo with this one and "Parcheezi".

A close-up picture of the border fabric. I think it is well-aged from my STASH- Time to use it!

The month isn't done yet so I still have time to play with some of the other blocks, like "Parcheezi" and "Thank Your Lucky Stars" that are ready to be put together as 'Flimsies" for my October Goals.

 I hope I can get one or maybe two of these minis quilted before the end of this year.

Design Wall Monday- October 21, 2013

 I'm so easily persuaded into a new Project I saw Cheri's Pumpkin Seed quilt HERE. 

 She started it HERE. I also saw it on Randy D's Blog HERE. Randy did hers in Blue.
Kathy in Canada did one HERE.  I knew I'd seen it on another Blog...

You know I have all of those tiny HST's and thought it would be another good way to use some up.
Well at least some of the Purple ones.  I'm calling it "Purple Pumpkin Seeds"  like the Purple people eater or Peter, Peter, Pumpkin eater. LOL 

OPPS, I see that right side border is on backwards...and my squaring job needs to be re-done

I don't have any more of the light fabric so thi might be IT for this mini quilt. Froggin' time!!

 I still have a few of the purple hst's left and have to find a few more to cut, sew and trim at 1-3/4" to finish

Friday, Already...

It's been a tiring week and having the sniffles doesn't help. 

 I'm trying to play the "GLAD GAME" here, at least it's not snowing like it is on Colorado.

 I've put a few miles on the ol' Chevy Lumina this week. 

Monday, I drove Wendy to Hermiston to get our hair done

Tuesday was a Stay-home day, YEA

Wednesday I helped Wendy cut out her "Be-Ribboned" quilt,

 then drove the Sister Missionaries to Umatilla. They asked to be picked up around 6.

Since I had over an hour to myself, I decided to drive to Kennewick and deliver some overdue Birthday gifts. Here is COY with his towel. He asked for a "black" one.
He likes the "Man in Black" Johnny Cash.

Funny kid, got his Quilt  Pillowcase and towel and said he was coming home with me.
His Mom liked her Birthday gift too and said she almost bought the same thing for herself last week-end.
My luck is Back, I called in these two birthdays and both times they WON the Cake and Photo 8x10 sitting from KORD!   Only one more Daughter by Love Birthday and one more Grandson to make a towel for inn December.  The grandchildren are making requests for next year.  Such helpful hints will be taken under consideration and we will see what I decide for the Birthdays in 2014.
But FIRST, I have to get the 2013 Christmas gifts decided on and made.  I'll have to get them done early since the family won't ALL be coming home for Christmas.  Gotta allow shipping time.

I stopped by to try the crocheted hats on Katie so I could mail some to Rebekah with Christopher's Birthday towel. Today is Christopher's 6th Birthday and his Package is on the way. Opps, I forgot to take a picture of his towel.  I know his mom will take one for me and send it, right, TINA???
Below pic is one of the hats I made. I had to make a few to get to the right size gauge with the hook and yarn I used. It's not exactly like the one Tina sent me pictures of.  I'll keep trying more patterns.

I decided that I will make the 5 additional blocks for my ALOHA LUS since it wasn't completed before my trip to see Jennifer.   I made the Block of the Week K-7 Winged Square this week. That makes 2 BOW's for me this week.  Now I have an extra chance for the Elm Creek Pin this month.
Saturday the new BOW is selected and announced on the Yahoo group. Thanks CONNIE!

I tried  taking the picture with my phone to upload it to the yahoo website, it didn't work so great...

DH has been working Long hours, but the end is in sight.  He says he's ready for a road trip and guess when he wants to go??  YEP, the same week as I was supposed to go on Retreat at Royal Ridges in November...oh well, they haven't cashed my check yet and I e-mailed so she can take me off the list. I think going to see Grandchildren takes priority over a Retreat.  It would have been nicer to go the first week of the month. The weatherman is not being nice and I'm afraid we might get caught in some SNOW...

What am I Working on Wednesday???

 I sewed up all of the Midnight Flight Blocks because I didn't have room to trim my 

Sarah's Choice Stars Swap Quilt to add the borders to it.

Posted the question PINK or BLUE for the inner border to the FB and now I have a different plan to make a pieced border for this quilt.  Bonnie's pattern has 145 of these units and I know I don't want to do those...

They would have a pink on one end and blue on the other.  That is a Lot of cutting sewing and trimming off the Bonus triangles.  I already have a ziplock bag FULL of them from the center of the quilt.

 I used my Marti Michell "A" Templates and sewed up my Block of the Week for my 

B & W Loyal Union Sampler.  Gotta upload it still.

 LASTLY I'm re-testing this pattern and helping my Friend make it in soft pastel colors. 

 I'm taking my GO Baby Cutter over to cut it all out with her this AM. 

The Flower is different using the Round Flower DIE. 

 I don't know how to import the Go Die image into the EQ7, Help!!!???

We picked the colors out at Auntie Ida's when we went to Hermiston for the Haircut and Dye jobs.

Christmas is coming and I know there are a LOT of Secret Projects out there.
