Winning Quilts at Tri-city Show

 National featured quilter at the show was Sally Schneider.   She did demos of her Triangle and Gizmo ruler both days of the show.  Here I am pictured with her.  I got a 'siggy' square, both rulers and the Book.

The books were half off on Saturday.

This is what came home with me.  The Charm Pack (top left corner) I WON at the Buggy Barn Demo, a bag of powder that is a special soap for soaking "Vintage" linens, 30's Fat quarters, some Dots to re-make the Trendy Dots Quilt, and a piece of fabric that will go with my Lewis and Clark BOM quilt from 2005.

On Friday one of the Highlights was meeting a lady who I have only known from Facebook. 

She lives not far from between where I used to live and where I grew up. She recognized the Pin/name collar. I posted it on FB and hoped people would see it and say hell-o.

Many mentioned that they had seen me in the McCall's issue while I was at the Quilt show.
NOTE: I have friends that received their copies on last Tuesday of the magazine that they subscribe to, I subscribe too, but haven't gotten mine.  I finally had to go and BUY one at Albertson's. It is so frustrating, that is why I subscribed- so I'd get my copy first...

The ballots for the Quilt show  just had lines to list 3 favorite quilts.  Usually there are separate categories for Hand Quilting, Machine Quilting, Large Quilt and Small Quilts. 

 We were there when the Raffle quilt was drawn for and the winner came to collect it.  Here is the winner and the ladies who made the quilt, the winner is the Young lady with dark hair.

Ready for the 1st Quilt Show of 2012- Tri-City Quilters

I enjoy going to Tri-Cities Quilt Show every Year. The Theme for 2012 is "Stitchin' Stars".  I always see friends and meet people I haven't seen in a while.  I made the trip up solo on Thursday to deliver mine and Marlene's quilts and will go up solo again if I wake up in time.  There are friends from my Walla Walla Guild going up but they are not just going to the Quilt show.  My Quilt Buddy, Lynn can't go with me as planned this year.  I want to just go and be able to come home when I get ready.  Guess I'm getting old...

I've been wanting to make a collar to hold all of my 'quilt-y' pins that I have collected.  I finally just took some neutral fabric and cut one out.  I made it so I have room to collect more.  There is an empty space for the 2012 Tri-City Quilter's Pin on the right side- also on that side are my Shop Hop pins from the Western  Washington Shop Hop, Marti Michell Hand pin and above my name is my Alliance Pin and my WW Onion. On the Left side are my Elm Creek Quilt Pins from Jennifer Chiaverini. I have to find my WASIQ pin.  I wonder where I put it after the last time I wore it??  I think that would have been at the Leavenworth Retreat or maybe EXPO, since we like to meet up by the Escalators there and wear our pins to be recognized.  Since I save selvages, I have my "Stashbuster" Selvage hanging there on my Olfa pin with 19 Dots on it (the most I have found on a fabric) even though I'm not on that Yahoo list anymore.  I'll have to take and post some Pictures of the Winners of the Viewers Choice Quilts after the Voting is over- Saturday when I go to pick up my quilts.  I have a little hope to bring a ribbon home for the 2nd Challenge quilt that Natalia Bonner quilted for me. Wish me LUCK!

Slightly Distracted...by Pictures

Oh My Goodness!  I am late getting Birthday Pillowcases in the mail and I have nobody to blame but myself.  I had an e-mail for a FREE Photo Book from Shutterfly in my INBOX and the temptation to use it was just too much for me.  I started a new file on my Computer in My Pictures and started collecting the best Photos of all my Quilts.  Some I had to scan from the Hard Copies.  I used my FLIP-PAL scanner that I won from Pat Sloan last year. It is Portable and easy to scan from the Creative Memories Albums where I have some of my earliest Quilt pictures.  Some of my Quilts don't live at my house so the old pictures have to be used and it is easier than waiting for someone to hold them up while I take a picture and then uploading, cropping and all that jazz.  One of my Facebook friends, Linda, reminded me, 

"I have found that it is easier to get out the books and show them instead of getting all the quilts out, showing them, and then having to refold for storage."  

  It took me way longer than I thought and I missed the Midnight deadline on that offer. But my Quilt photos are all in one place on my computer now.  I even had to ask my children for some pictures of their quilts.  Thankfully my Sister- by love made a book with my Mother-by love's Quilts recently and some of those pictures were fairly easy to locate and re-send.  DS #1, had 9 baby quilts and wasn't sure who made which one so he took pictures of the ones he thought were made by Grandma Zora Crowther. DS #2 said his quilts and Photo albums are in storage, it is TAX time so I might not get those in time for this book.  I reasoned with myself that "If I don't DO this, It won't ever get done!"  DD#1 came to my rescue with another FREE Link to make a Photo Book with "My Publisher".  Valid through April 30th and good only for NEW customers.  All I had to do was enter my e-mail- no new Passwords to remember.  The extra pages that I knew I would need, were less than on this site too.  BONUS!
 SO.....a day later and a few less (a lot less) hours of sleep time and I am well on the way to hitting that PUBLISH button. I'm still waiting on a couple pictures to be e-mailed to me to fill in and I'll be finished- for now. Since I have over that many more Projects/UFO's to finish in my lifetime.
While I wait for those last pictures I have these cute fabrics calling to me...One Year old's won't remember that Grandma was a day or two late, right?

I'm sure that my Daughters will know which one is for their Birthday boy... Today is the day to work on them!

Design Wall Monday, March 26, 2012

Still on my Temporary Wall is my 30's Farmer's Wife Blocks.  Almost done with April blocks.  I'll have to move it when I get to June for sure.   I need to work on my UFO for March before the week is over. Hoping for more progress on it for next Monday's Posting. I'm still resisting making the cute 3.5" "Blessing Basket" blocks over at Temecula Quilt Co.  My blogging friend Janet O is making lots of them in different fabrics if you want to see them. 

 I got these fun fabrics in the mail from Lori of Humble Quilts.  She requested some Cowboy fabrics so we arranged a 'swap'.  Only one of these is a duplicate of my Stash fabrics. THANKS Lori.

 These are the fabrics going to Lori's house this week. I had to include the bandana print and rope, barbed wire, belt fabric. The blue is new to my Stash, I was happy to share.

 I didn't share this Photo on DWM last week so I thought I would this week.  I posted in on FB and got a LOT of  'Likes' and comments.  My Cousin's daughter even mentioned it at Church on Sunday.  This one isn't going to stay with us so I might have to copy it for a memory.  The pink and black combo is so striking.

Just for the story this quilt was made over two years of collecting the 'cuttings' from Trends Show in Portland. Linda Pumphreys who works in the Accuquilt Booth saved them for us.  This is how it worked up finally.  Sorry Linda wasn't there to see it in person.  Lynn furnished the extra fabric to make the borders and backgrounds. We make a good team, even if I say so myself.

An Evening in Paris...

 My oldest Daughter and oldest Grand-daughter took a ride to Connell Saturday evening and were transported to Paris for a few hours.  The Distinguished Women of Connell/North Franklin High School (JR Miss) danced sang, recited and played instruments for us.  We had a relative- our talented Niece/Cousin on stage and we were duly proud of her. More pictures are on the highlighted link and I'm sure will be posted  at the Ransom Family Blog.

 Her mother got us Prime seats on the 4th row for the event.  I had a great view all evening  and would have taken pictures if they were allowed.  We were allowed to take them after in the Gym.

The Alders and Crowthers

Stephanie got three medals and some scholarship money for winning the JoAnn Welch "Talent Award", the Scholastic Award and being in the 5 Finalists.  The New Miss Connell is Sommer Boyd, (NaDell chose her as the winner when she saw the program before it started).  There were 14 Beautiful and Talented girls in the Scholarship contest where they were Judged on Poise, Scholastic, Interview, Fitness and Talent categories.  Stephanie played the Piano rendition of  "All of Me" using her elbows even.  She plays the Organ at Church and is a very accomplished pianist, (no partiality here, LOL).

 Attending and watching Pageants is a long time tradition with my girls.  It was fun to go to the Miss NF pageant again with the next generation. Thanks to G-ma Zora for the extra ticket and to Diana for getting us great seats!  I had to share with my Grand-daughter the story of when I participated in Miss Moses Lake my Senior Year.  Here we are in our Evening Gowns at the Dress Rehearsal.  Photos are bad because they are scanned old Polaroids from 1975.  Technology has come a LONG way!

  The story is that as we were waiting to come out onto the Stage here at Dress reheasal the Emcee- John LaMont, formerly of the New Christy Minstrals, called out a long "MOOOO".  It caused a fit of giggles for all of us girls.  Contestant #6 Crystal Fazande was Miss Moses Lake and Lynda Moore, 1st Runner-up were my roomies that night in the canopy bed at our Host home.  We had made a promise that the Queen would get to sleep there before the pageant.  We stayed there all week while we were in full, intense rehearsals.

I have to include a picture of myself in the Opening Number outfit that I made.  It shows better how I looked way back when... I wish I had a better picture of the Evening gown from that night that my oldest Brother bought for me.  I wore it to my Senior Prom later that year and again at Ricks college after adding sleeves.

Stichin' more 6.5" blocks- SBS and FW

I cut out some more blocks to sew up this week-end.  Because I was asked how many I have total for each of the 30's Quilts I am making...  The Sylvia's Bridal Sampler has 57 finished of the 140.

Four more April Blocks -  Wild Geese,  Mother's Dream, Seasons and Swallows.  I only have one more block to make for April, just in case I get BUSY.  LOL!
The total for the Farmer's Wife Quilt is 44 finished of the 111.
I have 3 extra of the FW Blocks made.  I haven't decided whether or not to use them.   We'll see how they look when I complete the rest and put them up on the Design Wall.   I could also use the extras in the SBS for the ones I don't want to make.  To earn another Elm Creek Pin from Jennifer Chiaverini I need to have at least 100 Blocks to put in a finished SBS Quilt.

March- Farmer's Wife Blocks Finished!

Tuesday was Farmer's Wife Group and I spent 9 hours at Thread and Bolts so I could get these 10 blocks all done. I  took pictures of everyone's Blocks who brought them so we could add them to the Thread and Bolts Blog.

 I took the time to cut out and make a Block from Month 10 that is on the SBS BOW (Block of the Week) this week!  I made one for each Quilt - FW & SBS,  notice the color placement.  That is the difference.

 The Farmer's Wife block is called Wedding Ring, Sylvia's Bridal Sampler called it Wedding Ring 1.

Below is the Quilt at Trends that got my VOTE~ I really liked seeing all the baskets and applique on this one.

It's another 'Wet Wednesday'.  I sure hope that it does the dry Farmers crops some good.   

Design Wall Monday- Rubbing shoulders with Quilt Teachers

 

I got the chance to go with my Quilt Buddy; Lynn, to Trends in Portland again this Spring.  The weather didn't get the Memo however... We saw torrential Rain, Sleet, Snow, Hail and a bit of Sun.  While there I completed 4 more of my Farmer's wife Blocks. They are on my Design Wall this week by default.

The Vendors were generous with shop owners and I was lucky to be with Lynn and get in on the fun.

 A prize that was delivered while I was gone from Blue Elephant Stitches BLOG. The Fabric from BRRRR. Thank you to Jolene.  I didn't realize she was in Canada.  It was fun to come home to a Squishie!

Carrie Hargraves- Guest Speaker at EE Schencks

She is the daughter of Harriet Hargraves of "Treadle Arts" quilt shop in Colorado.  Yet another reason I'm happy that my DD #2 moved there. They run a "Quilter's Academy" Boot camp there. It was fun to hear her story about growing up in a quilt shop (she didn't want to be a Quilter...) and how she came around to take over management of her mother's Quilt Shop.

Pepper was in the Presentia Threads booth showing and teaching "Sashiko".  They had Make and Take workshops at Trends on Saturday and Sunday that Lynn went to.  It sure meant a lot less time sitting around waiting for the Door Prize drawings.

Usually a quilt can only win 1 prize at Trends but this one got an 'overwhelming' amount of votes! The winner gets $100 Credit at EE Schencks.

National Quilting Day and St Patrick's Day

I'm not Irish - these blocks were the Block Lotto Blocks I was suppose to take to guild meeting on Tuesday. I put my "Balkan Puzzle" together like my "Windblown Square" by mistake and had to do some "frogging".  I told the Winner, Dilsey, I would bring her my Blocks.  These were made using the fun trick shared on "Craftsy".  The directions help you make 4 HST's at a time. The Balkan Puzzle was the February Block of the Month on Craftsy.  Thanks to Marilee.

You sew around the outside of a square then cut twice on the diagonal.  The edges are on the bias but I was careful and it worked ok for me. 12" blocks are fun to make.

My Block of the week for the Sylvia's Bridal Sampler Group was C-1 Contrary Husband

 I needed to make this one for my 30's Sylvia's Bridal Sampler anyway so here it is. 6.5" block made with Marti Michell Templates.  I have a bunch of blocks cut out now and next week is the Farmer's Wife Small Groups meeting at Thread and Bolts.  I am trying to catch up with our fearless leader, Lynn. I hope to at least have my March Blocks finished in time for the meeting next week.  Wait and see if they are the Design Wall Monday.

How are you Celebrating the 2 Holidays? I remember making Crocheted 'Green' Shamrocks for my children to wear so they wouldn't get pinched.  And making Green food for dinner.
It is so fun to have a Quilt Related Holiday on the Calender.  Not that I need a reason to Quilt...
