Design Wall Monday- February 29, 2016

It's Leap Year Day!

I had a good week and got some Finishes!

 My Goals for the Month are almost ALL completed.

1- Finish WWSNV Class samples to flimsy stage. DONE

2- Make Guild Blocks for Lotto DONE

3- Keep up with Blocks of the Week and Month.  DONE, mostly

(the 1930's Farmer's Wife is on a break)

4- Self-Publish the Patterns for Kids Class and Butterflies & Lilacs quilt. Not DONE.

My Block Total for February = 76 (unless I get to stitch a few today)
If I counted all 32 of the HST's in the Feathered Star there would be MORE.

My OMG Goal is DONE!

The re-make of the Feathered Star for my Class in June.

I cut the borders to size and sewed it like a giant 9-patch.

Pins are my friend so I don't get wavy borders

I finished it and got pictures outside just before it started Raining.

There was a little breeze so a corner is flipped.

Friday night, I decided to get the binding on  my Scrappy Bow tie L/E Quilt.
I thought it needed a Scrappy Binding too.
Here is my basket of leftovers.
I pulled out anything that was mostly Purple.

Then I stitched them on the Diagonal with "Priscilla:

All Done and Labeled.

The wind was not my friend for taking this picture either.

Border Strata- DONE

I got the Strata sewn for the Feathered Star border.

I sewed before I went out Visiting Teaching in the afternoon.

Good thing I took the picture.  I see one border is turned wrong.

I found 2 Fat Quarters that I could swap out for the center and corners.

The Lilac fabric is a bit dark to me.

They are from the same line as the lighter purple in the star and 1st border.

 Which one would be best?

I have time since this class is June 8-9.

I could just make a 2nd one similar with the changed center and corners.

I need to get the Class Sample up in Walla Walla Sew n Vac & Spas ASAP.

I chose it as my OMG goal to get it to a Flimsy and I'm almost there. YEA!

I stitched and got borders on my 2nd version for the Kid's Class.

The 1st one is on the table waiting to be quilted later today or tomorrow.

"Betsy" is Back in Working order!

It only took a few months and waiting for the new Encoder to arrive.

Now 2 very old UFO's are DONE.

The 1st thing was to finish up the Bow Tie L/E from 2011 that was on the last 2 passes.
It's been on the frame since November 18, 2015

YEA!! it's off and ready for the binding.

The grandchildren can play "I Spy" with this one.

I love seeing the sun shining through the back so I can see the swirls!

Next on the table is a long awaited Mariner's Compass that I promised to get finished.
It's been waiting since November 2012 HERE  when I made the Center.

And it's OFF THE TABLE before bedtime!

Design Wall Monday- February 22, 2016

I really liked the lighter setting squares on Kathy in Canada's Circa 2016 HERE.

I tried out some of my scraps of Civil War Fabrics under my 9-patches and Pinwheel blocks.

Which one do you like best?

I'm favoring the one on the right.

The one on the left, under the tiny blocks could be the setting Triangles.

I think I like the wavy stuff for a border

I get to make a "broken dishes" block this week.

I know I'm late to the Linky Party, Computer had issues and I had to go and pick up my grandson to come play with me today.

I went to the AAWU Book Sale on Friday.

I was pretty good, only bought 6 new-to-me books.

I couldn't get in to look really well.  

Two other ladies were in front of the Boxes of books.

I found these quickly and got out of there.

The one at the top right was a duplicate that a lady wanted me to give to her when I found it.

It has her Great Grandmother in it, she said her cousin would want it.

Too bad, Finders Keepers this time for me.

I picked up these Baby quilts to bind from a Lady in guild.  

Just pre-quilted panels mostly, but they will keep a baby warm.

I have great news, Betsy's Parts should be in this week, so she'll get fixed ASAP.

Meanwhile, I have been organizing my Projects again downstairs and cleaning up.

Amazing to see the junk that was under my Sewing Chair.

 Carpet sure picks up all those threads and dog ears that fall.

It's all clean now. 

Friday Foibles

Foible -a minor weakness or failing of character; slight flaw or defect: an all-too-human foible. 

This word came to my mind when I set my NEW Feathered Star out to see how it would look 
on my 'Design floor' last night.

It has a slight defect...

I seem to remember making this same error when I put the 1st Feathered Star together last month.

 After a few minutes with my "froggin' tool.
There will be a BLOG post about my Favorite Froggin' tool in March.

This one is MUCH Better!

The WWSNV got some new fabric in that was Purple-y.

It's from a line called "Thyme with Friends"

I decided this one would be Perfect in a Spring-y Purple!

The Fussy-Cut Center is my Violets fabric.

That might change if they get in more of the line.

My OMG Goal is almost finished even with a few Foibles.

It's Friday and My Circa 2016 Center is not quite ready for viewing.

I didn't' choose the Setting square and Triangle fabrics yet.

The Hourglass units, in the correct size, still aren't made.

The new step is found HERE today.

I'll get to it tomorrow while DH is finishing his Irrigation Project.

No Basketball games this week.    

My main human foible is that I just can't say no to a fun SAL.

Lori Holt put this fun one on Instagram last night.

I waited for the full reveal before cutting. Is that cheating???

I saw the cutest Cowl at the Lacey Lacers show and share.

That meant I had to find a FREE pattern and make me one, right???

On my Needles while watching Paw Patrol with my grandson, LOL.

I am about half way done.  I might have something to show next meeting- hahaha.

 I haven't picked up my needles for a while.

Working on the Circular needles is different.

It took a bit to get in the groove.

Even longer to find my little markers for the beginning of the row.

There's a USED Book Sale down at the Marcus Whitman so the Quilting and Knitting will have to wait.

I heard there are a BUNCH of Quilting Books...

It's a Puzzlement & 1st Embroidery class project

Paul took 2 days off to put in the Underground Irrigation System.

It's a huge puzzle of Trenches in my yard right now.

It has to go on the Blog, right?

 East side- West Side and Backyard.

I don't know where my picture of the front yard went. 

He is having 'FUN' putting the Funny Pipe Puzzle together.

(and sometimes taking it back apart when he used the wrong ends)

 His Mom taught him well...left the Muddy Clothes and Boots outside.

Yesterday was a bit frustrating when he hit the Natural Gas Line and Power to the Garage.

Extension cord winding its way from the Freezer to the outlet in the Kitchen through the window.

I was happy to spend my afternoon at my 1st Embroidery Class and picking up Bernie!

2 weeks and I have my Favorite Piecing machine HOME!

I had to PROMISE to not wait more than a year to bring her back.

No pictures, but I did see some of the insides before the fuzz was removed.

Shame on ME! 

Yes, I am sorry I didn't take it in sooner.

Here is the Class Project- an Embroidered Dish towel.

I've never had the pleasure of taking Sewing classes after buying a machine.

We learned about Stabilizers and Threads.

It's going to be good to learn to use my New-to- me Artista.

There's not enough time in the day to play with all of my TOYS!!!

I need to clear a flat space to set the Embroidery machine up.

My Quilt Labels will be on the agenda once I learn how to make them.

Design Wall Monday - February 15, 2016

It's DH's Birthday and He has hit the age that He could retire.

He's a hard working Man.

For his Birthday I gave him lots of CASH to buy the stuff for Underground Sprinklers.

He said it will be about $400 but get me $500 in Cash.

The total came to $499.97 at the Irrigation place.

3 Pennies change!  That was cutting it close.

I played with my Treadle while he was gone to pick up the stuff.

Allietare' borders were begging to be sewn partly on "Priscilla".

I got the Yellow sewn to the Grey first then tested the Border both ways.

It was fun to Treadle.

Kind of like Rubbing your Tummy and Patting your head.

It takes coordination.

I couldn't not try the Flange in two places.

Between the between the Grey and Black or the Top and Grey.

Measure twice, Cut Once.

I kept repeating the mantra!

Lots of pinning to distribute the border pieces evenly to sew to the quilt top.

I didn't want to add a 1/4" seam guide.on the Treadle.

 The final seams were sewn on my New Artista. 

She still needs a Name.

The corner was a little tricky.

Yellow and grey went on together and two Black Borders were attached before we went to Tri-ciites.
A quick trip to go to the Temple and then a Grandson's Basketball game.

Dinner at Taco Time and a rainy ride home.

Back in time to finish getting the last 2  borders on.

Ta Da!

Back to the 1930's Farmer's Wife

I needed to sew some 1930's blocks this week.  

Choosing fabrics and cutting them out takes longer than the stitching.

Here are the Blocks I made.

Playing with the Alphabitties to label them.

We brought home the 1919 Treadle this week.

Francis found a better one in Portland for me.

It didn't need as much restoration, just a few scratches.

It came with the Manual, Bobbins and a "Jack" in the drawer.

ISMACS dates her July 10, 1919

So, what will I call her?

Francis?  Jack? or Priscilla after my Grandma Waite who was married in 1919??

She was a Farmer's Wife in Utah.

Grandma begged me not name any of my children after her middle name! 

 I've always liked it.

I have her threaded and put a Spool Pin Doily on her.

Welcome home!

Now to just get the coordination down so I can SEW.

Maybe I'll stitch the "Allietare" borders on with Priscilla.

Guild Night -Monthly Lotto Blocks etc

Block Lotto was a HIT, I do believe we have a Winner of a Design!

16 blocks turned in and 14 fat Quarters that went to lucky #7 - Brandi.

I forgot to take my FQ so I'll get her one later.

It took two pictures to get all the pretty blocks.

The Sew-in in May will be the time we assemble some blocks into Charity quilts.

It's going to be so fun!

For March we'll be making 

"London Roads"

February is my English Grandmother's Birthday.

This one is in her Memory!

My favorite Hourglass blocks are int he corners. 

I twisted the seams for fun.

I forgot to share my blocks from the Quilts of Valor day. 

It was posted on Facebook and Instagram.

I made 11 of the Disappearing 9-patch Stars and 4 of the the D9P's the wrong way. 

 Jessica said they would work in a border so I put them around the sides.

There were 14 of us sewing for the day.

 I did get my Temecula Blocks made for Parts 1-3

The part 3 blocks didn't come out the size specified.

I'm ready for the next set to make.
