End of July! New-FO & Get it Done...

I did OK on my July Goals- 2 out of 3 isn't bad considering I had to quilt Rebekah's Baby quilt 

all by myself and went on a Retreat.

JULY Goals:

1-Get 2 Baby Girl Quilts Quilted and Bound, 1 DONE, 1 Needs Binding

2-Cushions and Pillows for the Porch - Nope

3-Re-Make Stitchin' Heaven Quilt -BLUE -Center is done, needs last borders

Sneak peek at quilting on Baby "Katie's Choice" quilt for Grand-daughter #6, Grandchild #19. Because of limited throat space I had to just meander in the center blocks.  The full "reveal" comes on Friday after the Baby Shower.

I'm so glad there was only one and that I found it while sewing it together.

3-Make 3 more Blocks and sew together - Midnight Flight, add Border.

4- NON Quilt Related- Make Blessing dress

While I was at the Retreat, DH got my front door and porch painted the 'right' color.

Design Wall Monday- July 29. 2013

I've got a LOT to show from the SE Washington Retreat I went on this past week.  

There is nothing like 3 days of constant sewing and laughing and "Quilting by Committee". Marilee and I stopped by and found out that June and July aren't as busy at the Retreat center so the cost is less. We bring our own bedding and prepare our own meals.  That makes Retreating so affordable.

Thursday I got to the Retreat Center at Ratherbe's and the Katie's Choice quilt was the first project to be worked on, it's got all the borders on now and is ready to be quilted. 

Her Baby Shower is this coming Thursday so I will save the REVEAL for Friday's Post. 

It is going on the Bernina Quilting Table Today!

Friday was the day to put parts and pieces of  "Midnight Flight" Blocks together.  

I already had a bunch of 4-patches and Hst's made, just a few of the Purple parallelograms. 

I was able to get 3 of the 88 piece blocks up on the piece of flannel that was my Design Wall at Retreat.

Then I started making these units and had a stack of these ready to mix and match on Saturday. 

Saturday I used all the parts and pieces I had with me and my total "Midnight Flight" blocks is now at 27!

Here are the 12 I did at Retreat. 9 more to go for the 36 needed, 

I could just make 3 more and set it 6x5--- decisions, decisions...

I sewed my already assembled blocks for the "Somewhere in Time", the Stitchin Heaven Re-make 'tester' quilt from last year.  I had the pairs pinned and ready to sew, I thought.  I sewed them but my pile got shuffled so they weren't all the same direction.  I will do some 'frogging' and show it on Wednesday, OK?

It is time for the Monthly "Get it Done" report that day. 

 On Saturday we had our "Purple Picnic"

On the Menu we had many variations of foods that are PURPLE. Kathy made her Borscht. 

There were Blue/Purple corn chips and prize winning Cherry Salsa,  Bread with Huckleberry Honey, Purple Grapes, Grape Jigglers, Blackberry Cupcakes, Blueberry banana Muffins, Lavendar Shortbread cookies, Purple Plums, Grape soda floats( sometimes known as Purple Cow).  The Purple Picnic was started many years ago. 

It is in Memory of our WASIQ(Washington State Internet Quilters) Members who have passed away.  

A great Tradition to remember them at our Retreat. We share more than quilting  with our Online group. 

                      This year we had it for Julie's son who passed away suddenly Father's Day weekend.                         Julie missed the Leavenworth Retreat because his Memorial was that week-end.

                                 

I made these Pizza Rolls that have been all over Facebook for dinner Saturday evening.

 Ham, black olives and cheese & Sausage, black olives and cheese.
I made some with ham, sausage and cheese also.  YUMM-O

We were lucky to have all 3 of our Yahoo Group Moderators with us at this Retreat.

LouAnn and I left after Dinner on Saturday and passed this hill of wheat on fire.

A very SAD day during the start of Wheat harvest.

She had a family Reunion to pack for, and my ARMY Son started his Terminal Leave. 

He drove all night to come home. I wanted to be there and since I don't sew on Sundays anyway...

why pay for another night??

As a Side note: I saw a Link on Facebook that said in 1978 the first "Test Tube Baby" Louise Joy Brown was born in England, July 25th.  It's been a Great week for Babies.  Must have been that Super MOON!

Oh, Pioneers!!!

I'm so singing the Pioneer songs today!  Brant called to wake me up this morning- HE'S IN UTAH!!!  He got up at 5am to take his 3 boys and Aaron to watch the Pioneer parade in Utah. I'm sooooo Jealous!

This is the collar and my Cameo that I wore last Sunday.  

I guess I wore it a week too early...My Husband is speaking about the Pioneers this coming Sunday. 

Thanks to Eliza R Snow we have this wonderful International Organization.  

I just finished reading this Book about Ephriam Hanks.  He isn't related to me but was one of the Rescuer's of the Willie and Martin Handcark Companies.  I am still waiting to see the MOVIE about him and the Rescue.  It is in Boise NOW but I can't go there today.  HERE is a Link to the Movie Trailer

Today, I will go and enjoy a Picnic with my fellow "Daughter's of Utah Pioneers" at Whitman Mission.

Design Wall Monday - July 22, 2013

I did it! Be-Ribboned #2 is QUILTED and off the Table. It's not as good as I wanted but the Baby will not care, right?  Don't look too close at the un-regulated stitches.  I'm still practicing on that.  I do like the "Pebbles" I did around the Go Flowers. This was the sneak peek I showed my friend Saturday night at the Baseball game. She wants to make my Quilt too.  Yea, now to finish the pattern writing.

Janet O asked to see an example of my Feathers.  

 I  quilted up to the stroke of Midnight Saturday night so I had the final Feathers in the border to do this Morning.  I took the quilt out and turned it so I could quilt it in one pass. 

The stitches are pretty big but they blend in pretty good with the faux stitches in the border fabric.

 My favorite part is Cutting it off the leaders!!! 

Sorry, Tina I didn't have enough of the Border fabric for the back.

I must have had the backing too tight on that bottom border, opps. Lessons learned.

The Baby Girl "Katie's Choice" quilt needs to be finished next. I just have to decide on the quilting.

The letters are all made for the Fair Banner.  I'll work on this more this coming week-end. 

I found more of the background fabric I needed while Shop Hopping in Pendleton. 

I didn't end up going to the rest of the shops this past week-end, I was too busy Quilting.

Ready, Set, Quilt

I thought I had time to wait for my Long Arm friends to get back in town so this quilt could get quilted.  NOT so...My Daughters-by-Love informed me that they don't plan on making their due dates.

 It's CRUNCHTIME!

I HAVE to quilt this one by myself on my Bernina Table.  I got DH at one of his few spare moments, and he helped me put some White Duct Tape onto the Leaders to re-attach them to the poles.  I switched out "HELGA" for my trusty "Bernina 140".  I know it won't make the birds nests underneath.  

The quilting I want to do will be similar to what Natalia Bonner did on the "Original" quilt I made for the 2011 McCall's Quilt Design Star Contest.  IN MY DREAMS--- I know I can do it!  

Taking a BIG, DEEP Breath and Going for it!  Wish me LUCK! 

I got the Go-Friendly Logo in my email so the Pattern is in the works.  Pattern is coming SOON!

Mid-July Reporting...

I had to look again at my UFO List to see if I had worked on any of them this year.  I HAVEN'T really even given them much thought. It's really hard to see them once they are in a tote. I have too many of  my NewFO's that have taken my attention away to work on this year.  I've been extra good at those. Starting 3 New Projects at the Block Party, Whoa!  I've been trying NOT to put them away and out of sight to become real UFO's.

Bonnie Hunter's Bow Tie Project from 2011 is still un-finished and I have been searching for that darn Fabric that I mis-cut.  I have even thought about using the strips I've sewn back together and re-cutting the sashing- just to get the flimsy done. Here is my pile of Blocks.  I keep making more Bow Ties when I'm cutting out other things.  There are 22 more Bowties to make into the 9's to add to the pile of  39 blocks.  I need to make at least 5 more Bow ties to end up with an even number of 42 of the 9's. They are addictive, those Leader/Enders.  But I don't have this project on my July List so back into the tote it will go...

 
The only other UFO that has been touched, that is on my list (see the TAB at the top of the blog) at all this year is my Civil War Sampler. It is still hanging on the wall here in my Quilt Zone.  I need to make enough blocks to surround the center (at least a dozen more).

 The time is coming close to the arrival of the 2 new Grand-daughters and I have made arrangements for the quilting of the 2 Pink Baby quilts. I hope I can get them back and finish the bindings before they arrive. That will take care of  #1 of the July Goals on my List.

I have all of the Blocks made for my #3 Goal- The Stichin' Heaven re-make quilt shown HERE.  I just need to sew them together and add the borders.  That is still do-able this month, unless I take off and go to Wyoming...

Design Wall Monday July 15, 2013

Between Funerals and Hallmark Movies, I've been working on a Banner for the FAIR. 

I knew I wanted to have something Quilty up to show where the Quilt Area was.

The WORD PLAY Book was in my head again.  The book was written by Tonya Ricucci.

 Remember this quilt I made back in 2011??

I had some strip scraps from when we made the HOUSES at a Quilt Guild Sew-In. Some of the ladies just gave them to me. they were the right size to start playing. They were BROWN.  

So I started making Letters. 

 How many "A"s in WALLA WALLA????

 I love the wonkiness of the letters.  The  first letter of each word still needs to be made. I will make them bigger than the rest.  These letters are 2.5"- 3.5" tall. 

Adding the background to all the words will help put the letters in a more straight line.

 I found this cute coordinating fabric to go with the County Fair Panel at HancockFabrics.com.

Quilt Guild and Treasures

Tuesday night was our Annual Potluck and Treasure sale.  I didn't bring home anything- 

SHOCKER, I know!  

There was even a treadle machine that was brought to donate $$ to the guild. I just had to pass, 

I have enough of my own fabric treasures here in my basement. We had lots of good food and Lynn's Husband, Jerry even came to serenade us with his guitar. His final song by her request was --

During the Show n Share the winner of January's Lotto -Amish Diamond Blocks that were won in February brought her finished top.  She added Ricky Tims' one-seam flying geese 

for the outer border. I had to take a picture, she is getting it quilted and sent out before our next guild.

I like how this worked out. the Black and bold colors so typical of Amish quilts.

I chose the Block called "Fair Play"

 My sample Fair Play Block-- I chose this cute Watermelon fabric from Kori's Grandmas Treasures.

The guild ladies are to use any cream or white background and 2 fabrics that remind them of Summertime.

 My Secret Pal didn't forget me this month either.  She must have heard I needed some 2-1/2" fabrics to make an Ocean Wave Quilt. There are 3 each of 6 different fabrics- 18 strips.

I could also use it for BONNIE HUNTER's new Leader/Ender Challenge- She sent out the Challenge HERE - it's 6" Scrappy Split 9-Patch blocks 

 It came in this cute Heart shaped box.

I promised to show you the TREASURES I found last week-end...

 This Singer 457K "Stylist" was found at a Yard Sale for only $5. The daughter said she learned to sew on it. ISMACS says it was made 1969-1972.

She was younger than me. I said SOLD!  Then they showed me this beauty...

 Right now it is just the most beautiful "doorstop" because it is missing part of the cord to plug it in
and there is no Foot Pedal either.

 A person on the Vintage Sewing Machines Group on Facebook said it has the motor that 

looks like a space ship. The date in the motor says May 22, 1917!

 I'm still researching this one on ISMACS and E-Bay.

I found one HERE. It has the name of "Hotpoint" on it but the serial Numbers are similar.

 This is a Zigzagger made by Greist. I got it for $1.99.  I wonder what it cost when it was new?

The two machines that I have to share lastly are the ones I couldn't/didn't bring home. 

First is a Singer- 500 series "Rocketeer" that is like one that DD#1's MIL learned to sew on. It was priced to sell- $34.50. It is nicknamed "Rocketeer" by Collectors.  ISMACS says it was made in 1960's

 

And the White Rotary- I didn't see a price on. I might have bought it if I hadn't already bought the 

Edison machine. Both of these were in cabinets. 

I hope that somebody finds them and gets them running again. 

Design Wall Monday- July 8, 2013

I woke with the song, "Lazy Mary, Will you get up?" in my head today.  Here it is July and I need to get some quilting ready for the FAIR.  I don't want to start my FAIR project until I get a few more Flimsies (aka:UFO's) ready for quilting. I sewed and sewed this morning to have something to show today.  Last week was a real bust for me- not much sewing happened in the quilt Zone... I did get go Yard Sale/Thrift store shopping and to a couple Baseball games! I'll show all of my new "treasures" on Wednesday.

DH had to make up for working over 70 hours and all day on the 4th of July. 

I was pretty bummed that day to miss the FUN with Family who gathered in Tri-cities.

 I got two more "Midnight Flight" blocks sewn as leader/enders while I made the 

4-patches for the remake of the Stitchin Heaven Quilt. 

 I am still having fun twisting all of the 4-patches. 

I love the look of what I have done so far. [30 Blocks --5 x 6]

 This Pattern is called "Somewhere in Time". It isn't my design. I showed the quilt I made for Deb Lutrell on the BLOG  last week HERE. I like my choice of fabrics MUCH better. 

I only have 6 more alternate blocks to make. That means about 24 more 4-patches to twist.

 I have to take a break from this today and get my Lotto Block done for Quilt Guild tomorrow.

Design Wall Monday- July 1, 2013

Hurray for a NEW Month!  How much will I get DONE?  

It's HOT, HOT, HOT outside, but in my Quilt  Zone- it is COOL!

I'm working with "Blues" and that is a COOL Color.

Here are the Star Points I sewed together at Retreat. 

I used Marti Michell's Perfect Patchwork Templates Set D 

Next up are the 4- patches with these two fabrics.

I have the Alternate Blocks all done.  

This Pattern is from Stitchin' Heaven, it's called "Somewhere in Time".

I 'tested' and made this quilt last year around this time but have been waiting to show it on my Blog. 

That Quilt was sent to TEXAS after Lynn Quilted it for me.
  I wanted to use Wild Roses II fabrics by Marti Michell  to re-make it. 

I chose the fabrics for this one before I decided to make my 2013 Block of the Month with the same line.

There are a LOT of QAL's, BOM's and SAL's that I'm resisting the urge to make right now.  

I'm determined to get more UFO's and Flimsy's off the lists that are in my TABS at the top of my BLOG!

Get It DONE Report & NewFO Link-up!

WHOA!  I got my two Baby Girl quilts off the wall and nearly ready for the quilting.  I need to blanket-stitch around the flowers for B &T's and put the last border on Katie's. The Big Reveal was HERE.  It's great to be at the end of the month and have checked more off the To - Do list!

JUNE Goals (I'm only listing 3 this time)

1- New Baby Girl Quilts- I have the first 13-14 days to work on these before family comes. DONE

2- Retreat/Guild Lotto project- those Depression Blocks are addicting. DONE

3- UFO's for WASIQ Retreat  (I'm taking a few LOL -The #1,#2,#3, #4 shown above) WORKED ON

I didn't WIN any of the Blocks at Guild or RETREAT so it is safe to make my Blocks into Pillows for the porch now.

I worked on all of the projects I took with me to the RETREAT and made progress.  I can list the Secret re-make Quilt to be worked on in July! I'm showing this on Design Wall Monday.

JULY Goals:

1-Get 2 Baby Girl Quilts Quilted and Bound, even if I have to do it by Check!
