Design Wall Monday - Quilting at the Beach

After my Retreat we headed to the Beach.  

The quilting project I took to do was a Fun one.

I didn't need to take my Sewing machine.

I saw an example at the Trunk Show Maggie Ball did in April.

She calls it "Reverse Stenciling".

I cut out Beach-y shapes from the Freezer paper and pressed them on to 8" squares.

When we got to the beach, the morning of the 2nd day, I taped the fabric to the plastic tablecloth.

I bought Textile Medium and mixed it into the paint.

Paper Cups and Make-up sponges made it less messy than brushes.

I took fabric markers and some used them instead of paint.

I have some very creative family members.

It took a while to get everyone to get their blocks done. 

Beach time, a Deep Sea fishing trip, Flying Kites and family FUN came first.

A couple were sneaky and didn't get their picture taken.

Only one was sad she couldn't take her picture home. 

I put the 1st set on the car to dry.

Starfish, little and Big Stars, jelly fish, crabs and some mermaids.

I will have fun putting these together with the beach-y fabric I got.

The blue tape covered where the seam allowance will be.

I am glad for my willing family indulging my Quiltiness along with the Beach fun.

I hope it doesn't take another 7-28 years for us to gather again.

Design Wall Monday April 11, 2016

After 2 days of stitching with my oldest Granddaughters...

I had a day of sewing with my Quilt Guild at the Airport.

We had Featured Teacher; Maggie Ball come and teach us her newest pattern.

We were the first to test it!

I was in the back of the room.

I would have enjoyed being in the front but I showed up at the wrong venue.

When I checked my Facebook I saw that they were at a different place near the Airport.

I used the Fresh Lilacs fabric that I have a lot of.

I sewed and un-sewed awhile and have 5 "Octangle" Blocks to show.

Moral of my story: READ and RE-READ the Size of pieces to CUT.

These can be made into a table runner, Bed Runner or I can make more for a bigger quilt.

This was her Original design with the Octangle blocks.  

She simplified it and gave us instructions to make the runner on the left.

Maggie Ball did a fun Trunk Show Saturday evening.

Brandi and I both took pictures and I asked her to take a picture of me with Maggie.

Maggie told us she recently became a US Citizen.

She is originally from England.

We had 2 Flimsies after our 2-Days of Grandma Quilt Camp.

Grandpa took this picture of me with the girls and their Quilt tops at Pioneer Park Gazebo

Thursday into the late night and all day Friday.

Grandma was too tired to get them Quilted.

It isn't a walk to the Park without seeing the Birds.

We were lucky to see the White Peacock with tail feathers quivering.

The Pea hen was NOT impressed...

Last night was our Annual Quilt Guild Symposium.

I was asked to talk about FUN with BORDERS!

This is the only Picture I took at the Event. 

I was so busy 'talking' to everyone.

Any Blocks can be put into strips and make a Border.

I knew I had a FEW good Quilts with FUN Borders.

I was in such a hurry when packing up to leave that I didn't get these 2 books in my stuff to show the Ladies at the Symposium,

I have gotten a few Ideas for Borders from these 2 books.

The Borders on this Spiderman Zig Zag D9P came from "Weekend Quilts" pg 74.

Opps!-- laying it out this morning I see it is short one block there on the Right Side...

 Easy fix. I have an extra one to use.

I started this quilt in 2008 when I was making quilts for ALL my Grandchildren. 

Back then I didn't have as many as I do now.

 Time to re-make some that are too small for them and worn out now.

I know CKC would Love to have a different quilt.

 He reminds me when he sees me that his is TOO small.

Flying Geese Pillowcase border is "Easy Street" leftovers. Thanks to Bonnie Hunter.

Strippy Squares is "Brrr Hearts" on my from a Guild Sew-in May 2012. 

The credit goes to Maggie Ball for that pattern in "Bargello with a Twist"
